Round 4 - German army group north launches devastating counterattack into Baltic Startes with minimal casualties. Bolsters E poland and Bessarabia. Atlantic wall continues to be built and all tank purchases. Novgorod is under serious threat. Russia builds all infantry and reels from their defeat. They abandon Novgorod and advance to Finland. They consolidate a huge force in Ukraine and prepare for defensive war near Moscow. The stack in Amur invades Korea. Japan now at war with all of the Western allies, struggles to capitalize. They invade China, but Yunnan is untouchable. They invade Borneo and Kwangtung, Shan state and French Indo, but that is all. Their navy was not up to the task, especially since the carriers were stripped of their planes. US invaded Carolines and moved to 91, invests in Pacific to crush Japan. China holds in Yunnan. UK enters Alexandria to prepare for clash with Italians. Begins to send aid to USSR via Egypt and Persian factory built in turn 2. Reinforces Yunnan but collects considerably less. Italy abandons Africa, and builds defenses for Rome and the soft underbelly. ANZAC joins US in Carolines and collects insane amounts of money. France does nothing.

It was at this point, with the dire state of Japan and Italy, our opponents surrender. They had said that the knew they weren’t going to win, but wanted to see how long they would hold out. And to be honest, Germany was actually doing very well. It was impressive play for a new time Axis player. We all learned many things about the game and may play one tomorrow, well actually today since its 12:30 AM, where I’ll be Axis vs my friends who will be allies. They hope to beat me for the first time.

I had such a great time, I learned so much, and I have to say that all of the feedback from great people on this site and in the thread, along with the guys on YouTube have helped a lot. Thank you all!

    • Allied Playbook - G40 Collection of Essays - Compiled by jacobgeo24 Nov 18-19 2023

Special Note - I began playing Axis and Allies with Revised Edition in June 2018, I was introduced to Global in April 2021, and now that is the game I play the most
Foreword - This is merely a collection of Forum Posts relating to Allied strategies in terms of Axis and Allies Global 1940, none of the articles have been modified by myself, simply copied and pasted into a single document for the ease of use for the community of Axis and Allies G40 players. I did not modify anything, spelling and grammatical errors are therefore still present. Full credit goes to the original authors of the articles, this is their hard work and ideas, not mine. What they wrote belongs to them and them only, it is their property. I wanted to make a compilation of Allied strategy because, I have been playing and following axis and allies G40 for a little over a year and a half, and as a younger member of the community, I have seen and heard that due to the imbalance in the game in favor of the Axis, definitive strategies for an Allied victory have been debated over the years and often come and go. This is meant to be a compilation of general strategy for the Allies written by devoted members of the community over the years. Hopefully I will be adding to it as more come along, but I wanted to have what I thought were well thought out, comprehensive general strategy for different aspects of the Allied game in one, easy to find, easy to read place rather than having to scour the forum for hours trying to find each strategy one by one. Happy reading to all of you, I hope that what I compiled can help you win a game as the allies!
      - jacobgeo24, Nov 19, 2023
Again, all the credit goes to all of the writers of each article/essay, thank you for taking the time to make strategies for the good of the community, I merely compiled them, this is truly their work and thank them for what they wrote.

Because the document is big, I have it here in a PDF for you to read, I tried my best to document the history of when the articles were written, such as the date to make sure a detailed account was made.

@barnee Yeah, my goal was to make it nice and easy for people to access allied strategies and make their own ideas, I have been playing this for a few years and I haven’t had definite allied strategies so because these strategies helped me, I thought I’d compile them to help others too.

@AndrewAAGamer Thank you for the advice, I got an G40 tournament on the 8th and my friend is taking command of USSR so I want to get him the best advice on what to open on, he has never successfully taken control of Russia in a game before, he has lost Moscow all times he has been Russia, and he is confident he can hold this time and I know this advice will help! Thank you and thank you @crockett36

@SuperbattleshipYamato Yes I know it has been tough to play the game with people and I have been so lucky to learn the game. My dad played Classic with his friends when it came out in '84 and in 2018, a friend sent him a copy of revised to get him back into the game. He then taught me and we played our first Axis and Allies game in June 2018. I then introduced my friend who loves history to the game and taught him how to play, and we would play against my dad together and then against each other for years until 2022 when he taught his friend how to play and it has been a chain reaction. All you have to do it just teach someone who has time and won’t immediately turn you down, maybe someone who is interested in history will be easier to hook on with. But, I am lucky that my dad had played before and taught me because otherwise I wouldn’t have found a way to introduce my friends to it and grow our community. Now I am so grateful that members like @AndrewAAGamer, @crockett36, and many more along with all the guys on youtube like GHG, Good Captain, all the guys who play G36, Hilltop Pillbox, Board Game Nation, and so many more are around to help grow the game and bring more knowledge to people like me and my friends. They are helping to create a new generation of young Axis and Allies players like myself.

Hello, I have recently gone over the PDF again and I have realized that there have been many conflicting UK strategies, I know we have addressed the issue of the Taranto raid, but beyond that there is a lot of debate on what should be done as the UK in Europe specifically.

I see UK pacific as much easier to understand, their job is to halt the Japanese and not loose Calcutta at all costs and possibly get support from UK Europe from the Middle East if the UK goes down that route and Anzac Planes. Other than that, try to be a thorn in Japan’s side, slow them down and stifle their progress. But for UK Europe, I’ve found it more challenging.

GHG’s Middle Earth strategy is one of the most popular strategies on the forums and he has constantly backed it up for years now, but people have pointed out that it is not the best UK strategy, and that against a competent player, the UK would not be as successful with Middle Earth. And especially the, “I don’t care about losing Egypt,” line he said in his video brought up some controversy too.

Some folks like to put the pressure on Italy, while the others lets Italy mind it’s business and go for landings in France or Norway, and I am not sure which one is the way to go. More commonly than not, there seems to be a commonality in games that the UK puts effort into the Middle East or North Africa and sometimes sub-Saharan Africa, but there is a lot of variability in the strategies of people games. Some advocate for factories in Egypt, in Iraq, in Persia, building out of SA and shucking, and some are completely against Persia and want only Egypt and Iraq to have factories. And then there are others who are skeptical and generally more apprehensive when it comes to Middle East factories, I have seen this point brought up by @crockett36 before.

And what is the proper first turn buy, because I know for many it is the standard 6 Infantry 1 Fighter build to deter Sealion, but I have seen it varied now with the airbase on Gib for Gibastion, Uk1 Factory in Egypt, and such. Is this enough to deter a sealion, should I be defending London UK1, or can I spend money elsewhere?

I’m just not sure, when I have played before, I don’t really have a coherent Uk strategy, mainly because I haven’t played Allies in a while, and I find myself struggling to find a way to use Uk effectively unlike how I can use USA and Russia well. I know that many regard Uk as the most dynamic and most challenging Ally to play, and I was hoping to see what consensus was now on UK strategies and how I should be playing them.

      Thanks!

My tournament that we talked about earlier for December 8th was cancelled but we rescheduled for the 15th, which is disappointing but that gives us more time to prepare for playing the allies. Like I said earlier, I will try to make posts about how the tournament goes with reference to the Allied Playbook PDF.

Hey all! I began making the allied playbook for me, for my axis and allies games, but then I realized what a great thing this could be on the forum. I posted this hoping to spur discussion on allied strategy again and I must say I am so happy with where this has gone. We have had so many great discussions, we have learned a lot, and I am looking forward to applying this in game.

I finally will be able to implement these things in game as the tournament I have talked about, which was postponed from the 8th, has been rescheduled to the 15th-16th. I am so excited for this. My friend and I will be taking the allies, I will be overseeing the US, ANZAC, China, and UK Pacific, my friend will be overseeing Russia, UK Europe, and France (for the memes) as per his request.

I trying to convince my friend to do the Russian infantry builds which were suggested by @AndrewAAGamer in his post earlier, given that Germany behaves and doesn’t do any Navy/Airforce only builds gearing up for a sealion, but he is adamant that creating an armored core early on for Russia is the way to go. I think my convincing helped him, but I’m not going to stop him, otherwise we won’t have a good time!

For UK Europe, we are going to take out Italy early and render them useless. His strategy for this is evacuating the Med Sea and preserving resources instead of attacking Taranto and Malta sea zone, where once united with boats from England and Pacific, will reenter and blow the Italians away. Not sure if this will work, but we shall see. I’ve tried to convince him to do a Taranto or some sort of rendition of Gibastion, but he will try out his strategy and we shall see! The US will also aid the UK in the Atlantic, but it may not be it’s main focus.

With our joint fleet to be positioned in 91 with attempts to reach Italy, Norway, and Normandy once we build up enough. US will send some resources to Europe, but I plan on doing a Pacific Operation since I am basically commanding the Pacific.

Goal will be to get to the Carolines with a join US-ANZAC fleet and troops, there we will threaten basically anywhere in the Japanese Empire. Not sure if our opponents that we will be doing a J1 though. China will be engaging in a tactical defensive war, while the UK Pacific will be mostly defensive as well unless an opportunity springs up.

That’s basically it, as you can tell, we are clearly not the best at the game as evident by our strategies, but I am really excited to play the game!

Feel free to add any suggestions/modification ideas for our Allied Strategy in a reply below! We will gladly take any suggestions!

I am so glad where this forum post and PDF has gone, I hope it will help you as much as it will hopefully help me!

@SuperbattleshipYamato That’s usually who I play against, people with traditional strategy, and normal tactics, usually pertaining to a Europe or Pacific first strategy with the USA in the lead, and Russia just buying infantry, and the stack in India. I do a J1 usually and G3, with my own take on it. It gets kinda boring when I play now because I use the same opening strategy, with the wildcard being Italy, they are the ones I can be creative with. So I went to this strategy to find something new because my usual opponents will be studying my plans. So I hope to use this against them to try something new.

    • RE: USA Crush-Turtle or Die

@SuperbattleshipYamato So I finished the game, Moscow fell but the American adventure failed, so Idk what to make of it. I know the AI is trash and I should be beating it every time, but that is with conventional strategy like you said. So when I saw the AI doing all the crazy movements it normally does, such as moving land units to Mexico on the first turn as well as moving the US Navy there as well, I knew it was doomed. But I carried on anyways. Japan was successful enough, taking western twice, but since Germany and Italy had their navies destroyed as well as heavy German casualties in the 110 and 111 battles, the landings failed. So either the AI secretly knew about the strategy and played its cards right, or the AI is so bad that it makes ridiculous moves like the ones it did that coincidentally destroy this strategy but is a god send for any normal game.

@Galendae I did this strategy against the hard AI on TripleA, and I think I am losing right now. I made a successful landing with Germany and Italy in Mexico, but since the AI is kind of weird, it does some strange moves in central America and buying random troops in USA for whatever reason, which thwarted my plan. Japan is doing great and has so many planes in USA right now, so I will see how it goes and tell you what happens vs AI, also things look good in USSR as well, they are consolidating in Leningrad so I will bypass and go to Moscow.

    • Preparing for Axis game OOB in local tournament - Suggestions Welcome

Hello everyone, this Friday, my friends and I are getting together and having another tournament. It has been a long time since we have done this, since December 15th in fact, because we all have been busy with high school and things like that. Finally, this Presidents day weekend, we all have a long time off from school and are getting together for another game of Axis and Allies. We are planning on playing many games over the whole weekend from Friday to Sunday, and it will be a great time. I am very much looking forward to it.
This time, I am taking the Axis in a OOB game of G40. If you may recall, last time I took the Allies in OOB so I am a bit rusty with the Axis but I have been making general opening plans for my game. I am taking on both of my friends who are playing the Allies in a 2 v 1 matchup.
For Germany, I am employing a common strategy that I have come up with that has shown great success in past games and mirrors other common Germany opening strategies. I will take out Paris with all that can reach, attack the 110 and 111 fleets with allocations of forces taking a full scramble in each into account, taking a shot at 106, and sending an attack into Yugoslavia.
My aim is to attack Russia on a G3 and I am to have between 32-36 infantry excluding Finland, around 15-18 tanks, between 4-8 mechs, and 8 artillery ready in the invasion force with one army stationed in Poland and the other in Romania. I aim to get to Bryansk around G5 for a battle in Moscow or a drive south to the Caucuses around G6-G7. I also will aim to get air power there in time, perhaps a fleet of Bombers and surviving tacs and fighters from G1. The troops in Finland and Norway will be more reactionary, seeing if I want to send them into Karelia or keep them there or transport them out into Poland before the invasion of the Russia. That is my general plan for Germany, and around turn 5 they can start spending more in the west to defend against the western powers wherever they may be in the Europe half of the map.
For Japan, I am going to be doing The Good Captains J1 attack and J2 movement. Depending on what the Allies do, we could be looking at a J3 push into India, or the more standard capture of the money islands. Not sure what the Allies will do with the USA, we shall see if they go Pacific or Atlantic but not sure. I plan on just using air and infantry to demolish China, but to be wary of the Russians in the Far East. We really shall see where to go with Japan after J3, whatever place looks appealing to attack but keeping mindful of protecting the homeland depending on what the western allies do.
Now for Italy, this is very dependent on what the Allies do. I am not expecting a Taranto raid and I don’t think my opponents know about Gibastion, so I expect my ships in Malta to be gone, with the British fleet to escape to the Red Sea. I know no Taranto is possible because my opponents always full scramble during G1. Now I plan on just trying to clear the Med, taking Egypt and Southern France, and taking Jordan to stop the passage of the English fleet back into the Med. I will see what to do in East Africa if they aren’t destroyed and I will launch attacks in Tunisia and Alexandria, aiming to get my bonus for North Africa maybe on I2, with the purchase of a transport and an infantry on I1.
If there is a chance for Egypt, I’ll take it and maybe a sneaky capture of Gibraltar for the bonus. If Italy looks like it won’t be able to handle Africa, I’ll be pumping out infantry to sandbag the Atlantic wall and soft underbelly to prevent Allied incursions. I might send some fast movers to the East as can openers too and to boost the economy a tad bit.
Well that is my general plan. I would love to hear feedback on it and if anyone has any suggestions, feel free. I have been testing my strategy on Triple A and I’ll send some screenshots of what my plan looks like to show how it has worked out so far and to help better visualize it. Thanks and have a great day!

Hi everyone, just checking up on things. I have some good news! My friends and I are planning on trying to organize another tournament between us, same group as before, but they are now teaching their friend who lives farther away to play Axis and Allies! The game is expanding and I hope this ripple effect can continue. We are the new generation of Axis and Allies player and I am so excited to see how something that just started as my dad coming back to a game he had years ago to teach me has spread into something great that I can share!

@SuperbattleshipYamato Thanks, yeah Japan was having a rough time, it was the first time our opponent commanded Japan alone, so he was in for a rough time. He didn’t really know how to use the Japanese navy to it’s advantage and didn’t go after China to its fullest. That is why he stripped the planes off the carriers, but it also disabled Japan from making any meaningful attacks to money islands and Philippines.
