      @TexCapPrezJimmy:

      @J2004823:

      Remember the flowchart I did before?

      Maybe also add “attacker retreat” as a full box, with explanation of what is permitted and what is not permitted? Unless this is more detail then you intended with the flow chart.

      Thanks for your suggestion.

      My aim was to create a game aid to regulate the flow of a combat. The initial motivation was to solve many confusions around submarines’ surprise attack and destroyer’s anti-sub ability. However, I encountered another problem when I was trying to map Step 5. Press Attack or Retreat into my flowchart. Step 5. Press Attack or Retreat (rulebook p.9) has been designed as a conditional loop. Nevertheless, these two conditions are not equal. Condition A is purely a condition, whereas Condition B involves retreat resolving. Therefore, I chose to restructure the flow: splitting Step 5 into mutiple condition checks, combining retreat resolving into Step 6. Since the combat is over once the attacker decides to retreat, there is nothing illogical to merge retreat resolving into Step 6. Conclude Combat. It is the best compromise I can think of.

      To accommodate your suggestion, simply detail Step 6. Conclude Combat will do. However, as you mentioned, Step 6 has more things than my original flowchart can catch. As simple as caputring a territory may involve capturing, liberating, capital liberating, capital occupied by enemy, exchanging vitory city token, or achieving/failing national objectives. I will need a new flowchart to list all these possible outcomes.

      Many thanks Krieghund. I did have a hard time to convenience others on the “jump first” privilege. :)

      I will suggest drop off paratroopers take place in the “Check Special Abilities”, right after AA Gun opened fire. Inside “Check Special Abilities”, the sequence can be:
      (1) Checking Destroyer’s presence
      (2) Submarine Surprise Attack / Submerge
      (3) AA Gun open fire
      (4) Bomber drop off paratroopers

      Hopefully, this shall clear things up a bit.

      Question: “When shall I collect the bonus IPC for achieving national objectives?”
      argument 1: right at the time the national objective is achieved.
      argument 2: at phase 7: collect income.

      The argument was about how many IPC Germany can start with in 1941 setup.

      I asked players to collect bonus IPC at “Phase 7: Collect Income”, since this is the only phase that players are allowed collect IPC. According to 1941 setup, Germany starts with 31 IPC. However, Germany is qualified for the 1st national objective right at the beginning of 1941 setup, which will bring Germany extra 5 IPC. I insisted that this 5 IPC is to be collected at Phase 7. Bonus IPC shall be collected at its due time, not to be integrated into the starting IPC.

      Having said that, I would like to hear others’ opinion on this issue. Many thanks.

      Thank you Krieghund.

      Though I can image my group may put forward an argument since 101st Airborne Division never had this privilege in Normandy :) But that is another story. Rules are rules, and history is history.

      Situation: Bomber carrying a paratrooper, moving into a hostile territory. This hostile territory has an AA gun.

      Question: Which one happens first, AA gun fires on bomber with cargo, or the paratrooper jumps off first then AA gun fires?

      In unit profile rulebook p.25, it says “This special attack is made immediately before normal combat occurs in the territory containing the antiaircraft gun.” Sounds like paratrooper can jump off first. However, I would like to hear opinions from other. Many thanks.

    • RE: Bombardment question

      I think it is to prevent the abuse of offshore bombardment. In AAR, you need research to enable destroyer’s offshore bombardment. Whereas in AA50, cruiser has this ability in default. Some limitation has to be attached to prevent unbalance. Having said that, initially I thought hitted land units would be removed after bombardment. Only when I went back to check rulebook, did I realise that bombardment is merely a supporting fire to shorten the amphibious attack. Adequate land force is still needed, at least for the first round of land combat.

      @Krieghund:

      @HolKann:

      As for Subotai’s diving subs: how about the example I gave? (2 sub attack 1 AC 2 ftr) Are the ftrs allowed to return fire because the subs don’t dive? Or are air units never able to hit subs unless a DD is present? (subs are complicated!)

      No, fighters can’t hit subs unless there’s a friendly destrroyer in the battle.  The battle is between the subs and the carrier.  It doesn’t pay to leave your carriers unescorted in sub-infested waters.

      Considering this scenario: in the course of a sea combat, attacker has only fighters left whereas defender has submarines and battleships. It seems battleships are forced to take all hits scored by fighters, and submarines have to sit and watch.

      Another thing I would like to double check:“submarine cannot move through a sea zone that contains enemy destroyer.” Is it correct?
