We play both 41 and 42 with NO’s and never do bids. We probably get about a 60/40 Axis/Allied win ratio.
Without NO’s just doesn’t feel right.

I think it is an interesting idea. Broadsides & Boarding Parties is the only game in the old GameMaster series that has not been reprinted up to this point. I may be mistaken, but I believe Restoration Games had shown some interest in re-printing this game, but am not sure if that is still the case.
Restoration Games does do a lot of reprint of old games that the rights holders don’t want to do themselves, so it’s possible.
Just to reiterate though, I’m definitely not looking to do a straight up recreation of B&BP as I just cannot deal with the legalities of it all. Just something in a similar vein. Potentially rethemed (Sci-fi seems to be my main wheelhouse for game design and I already have a full world built that it can go with).
Just throwing out the concept of a B&BP-esque style game. Not a lot of heavy interest so far though so it may just be a vanity project.
I recently posted to one of the AaA Facebook groups a magazine ad from 1987 that featured 3 of the popular GameMaster series games (AaA, Shogun and Fortress America) and the ensuing conversation about the other games in the series (Conquest of the Empire, Broadsides and Boarding Parties) got me to thinking;
Would there be any desire for a new version of Broadsides and Boarding Parties?
Now, clearly it would not be a pure remake as I obviously do not have the financial clout to go up against the big publishers and their legal teams, but I could do a game with a similar feel to it, updated for modern play, new name (obviously) and new illustration.
Thousand Dollar Idea or Waste of Time?
*Edit: To be clear, I would not be looking to re-create Broadsides, but a game that gives the same feel and similar experience. There’s absolutely no way I want to even come close to infringing on the ol’ Milton Bradely rights (whoever owns them now).
I’ve found these, but they’re located in Poland I believe;
https://www.super-hobby.com/products/The-Generals-of-WW-II.html
HBG has these (though they’re all the same model);
https://www.historicalboardgaming.com/Commanders-Global-War-1936-Expansion_p_2969.html
Any 1:72 model kit should work if you can find one with the commander figures you want.

What this means for fans of Xeno Games, including The World at War, remains to be seen.
I’d wager it means that all support for Xeno Games products, including WaW, is finished and they will never produce any copies or parts again.
Someone else may take up the mantle and buy the rights to it if there is enough value in it, but it’s probably a hard sell.
Yeah, I don’t see anyone lining up to grab that Xeno Games IP. The map and the rules have been available for free online for years. At one point the rules were up in plain text for anyone to see on the Xeno Games website itself.
The pieces were once one of the only games in town but were never all that great. There are much better alternatives now so I don’t think anyone’s going after those.
Other than name recognition or the rights to a different piece of the Xeno Games legacy I don’t see anybody making a play.
Speaking of making a play, @iwillnevergrowup, Xeno Games was moved to Canada from Florida in the early 2000s. The website has the email address and the phone number of the current proprietor. That phone number has an area code of 450 - which is for the suburbs of Montreal. Do you want a piece of that Xeno pie, since it’s up north of the US?
Honestly, I feel it’s just name recognition at this point so it’s not really something I’d consider tbh. We’ve got our own line of games (with more coming) and our own line of pieces and accessories already.

@cernel 70 years after he dies? Where do you get this?
For the US specifically; https://www.copyright.gov/help/faq/faq-duration.html
There are exceptions and it varies from country to country.
HOWEVER,
“A trademark is abandoned when the owner stops using it for three years in a row without intending to use it again, according to 15 USC 1127. After three years of non-use, the owner must show tangible, solid evidence to counter a registration attempt by someone else.”
Trademark and Copyright are two very different things, though Intellectual Property can be protected by either or both.
Protecting the mark or copyright will fall to whoever currently holds ownership (including the creator themselves (or company that owns the mark/copyright) while still alive, falling to spouse and/or next of kin).

Added Fort Drum (El Fraile Island, Philippines), aka The Concrete Battleship to our “Generic” pieces selection.
Reworking the Recruitment Camp (coming soon).
Developed based on a customer request;

Some notes regarding our 3D Printed Alternative AaA Pieces:
These are 3D Printed FDM and not injection molded pieces. As such, while they my have more detail they are subsequently somewhat more prone to breakage at any thin areas. We have attempted to mitigate this as best as possible by beefing up barrels and providing additional supports wherever possible, but there is always the chance that something may break.
As they are FDM 3D printed (not resin) there are layer lines. As small as those lines may be, they may or may not show up when attempting to paint pieces. We highly recommend a very light coat of primer before doing any painting to help fill in any excess layer lines.
All pieces are scaled to out of box Axis and Allies pieces with some variation for designations such as light, medium, heavy, super heavy.
All pieces dimensions are listed on their respective shop entry.
On request we can do alternate colors of existing models (an additional charge will apply).
We will do our best to clean any excess stringing or “flash” from models prior to shipping, however some cleanup may be required.
Color may vary from one run of pieces to another based on the filament used. While we do attempt to use the same brand and color of filament for each specific nation, available supply of filament may occasionally dictate a different brand, and therefore a different shade.
We attempt to keep a supply of all pieces in stock, however if a piece is currently out of or low on stock it will take a little longer for your order to be shipped as we produce the missing item(s).
Please note that these scales are NOT compatible with the standard Axis and Allies board game, but are compatible with the Axis and Allies Miniatures games (12mm/15mm scales) or other WW2 Tabletop Wargames such as Bolt Action.
Axis and Allies board games are in 6mm (1:285th) scale for ground and varying scales for naval (1:2800 to 1:3600 approximately).
I Will Never Grow Up Games has an ever expanding host of alternative 3d printed Axis and Allies pieces available!
Only ca$0.50-0.75 per piece for most pieces (Super heavy tanks @ ~ca$1.00 each).
Suitable for other 6mm/1:285th scale board games such as HBG’s Global War and our very own Battle of France 1940 or Conflict and Chaos: Vietnam 1965!
Also available is a growing selection of other board game accessories such as parts trays, card holders, resources and more!

@maddabout said in If you were Germany what would you do?:
Playing 1940 Europe as Germany. Playing my two sons and they always win. This time I have a chance to win as Germany however made a mistake and left Berlin vulnerable. Just took Moscow and have 84 IPCs. If you were faced with this situation and it is USA’s turn now. How would you attempt to hold off the USA long enough to get your tanks back from Moscow. What units would you buy?
Thanks for any insight
As far as I can see, the US is not getting to Berlin in one turn, so you’re ok there. It’s the UK that can get there (unless I’m reading this entirely wrong).
I’d probably just buy some infantry, maybe a couple fighters and/or warships.
A few updates!
We’ve also found a much better material for the US Olive pieces. Stronger and more flexible with slightly better detail!
Looking through our stock and the ever growing list of pieces on offer, I’ve started remastering, resizing and updating everything this week.
A whole lot of new models are being added, including super heavy tanks (FCM-1, TOG2, A36 Tortoise, KV5) and more naval pieces.
We have added the Print on Demand 12mm, 15mm and 28mm sizes for those who play AAA Minis and games like Flames of War (15mm) or Bolt Action (28mm).
I think I’ll start a new thread and let this one fade once we’ve got our updates finalized.
More great 3D Printed accessories (for both A&A and other board games) in the works every week!
