    • I Will Never Grow Up Games winding down operations

Dear I Will Never Grow Up Customers and Friends,

After a great deal of consultation, calculation and soul searching, we at I Will Never Grow Up Games have made the difficult decision to wind down operations for at least the forseeable future. While we do not rule out returning to the scene in the future, at this point in time we have decided to clear out inventory and shutter our online store.

Having been in operation for a little over 10 years we have seen many ups and downs in the gaming community and industry and have weathered all of it as best we could. Unfortunately, this small business has lost it’s “fun” as a hobby and is not viable enough to operate as a full time business and so, with heavy heart, we must concentrate on what’s most important; friends, family and our lives outside of the hobby business.

We will continue to be active in the community and absolutely continue to enjoy playing games as much as the rest of you. We will also continue to offer our flagship products, the Industrial Production Chip, Metal Flight Stands and Combat Dice through retail outlets such as Historical Board Gaming and Noble Knight Games as much as they see fit to continue to do so. We will also continue to offer our own game designs through the print on demand services provided by The Game Crafter.

Beginning Tuesday, June 27th, 2023, all items available in our webstore will be on clearance, from 20-50% or more off regular price. All sales will be final, and when an item is gone, it will not be replaced!

On a personal note, I have enjoyed creating and sharing games and game accessories with the community over the past decade and if everything aligns at some point we may see a return of I Will Never Grow Up Games to the retail space.

Keep gaming friends! We’ll see you around.

    • RE: Thinning Paint and Fine Details?

@cavestone said in Thinning Paint and Fine Details?:

Thanks to both of you. Another question, is it worth buying the proprietary thinners/retarders/flow aids or does distilled work the same, better, worse?

Distilled or tap water will reduce the pigmentation of your paint, which in such small scale (and if you use only a little to just thin it a bit … not too much, and always on a palette, not in the bottle) is not a big deal.

If using water, definitely go easy on it. Never more than 50/50, but I wouldn’t even go that thin personally. I’d go more with something like 80/20 (Paint/Water).

I REALLY like using Acrylic Matte Medium. It’s a thinner but it maintains the pigmentation of your paint, and it adds a matte finish to it at the same time. YOu can also get Gloss medium if you like the gloss look, but in either case I personally use a Matte varnish on top of all my minis anyway, so matte medium works for me. (Techincal: Acrylic Medium is an Acrylic Polymer Emulsion that is used as the binding agent for acrylic paints, just without any color pigmentation added).

Another decent tip is to make sure each successive coat is just a little THICKER than the previous coat (so you’re starting with very thin and working your way up to that 80/20 mix) and you’ll likely at this scale only want to do a max of 3 coats for your base colors and 1-2 for details and line work.

Did a test print of some unit pieces for Battle of France 1940. Still have to work on them a bit (especially the aircraft that did not turn out well enough to show yet … wings are far too thin right now) but they’re getting there! Also missing is the french tank (did not print because of an unlevel printer bed).

    • RE: National Objectives vs balance

We play both 41 and 42 with NO’s and never do bids. We probably get about a 60/40 Axis/Allied win ratio.

Without NO’s just doesn’t feel right.

    • RE: Is this Kickstarter now officially dead?

To be honest, I (thankfully) avoided backing from the start because there was, imho (as a publisher) no realistic way this game was being made (properly anyway) for the funding goal they were asking for. Not in my experience at least, though I’d be happy to be wrong.

4 years later and the prices have only skyrocketed on absolutely every step of the manufacturing, freight and delivery process making it even less likely. Plus the constant changes to the game since funding boggles my mind. Wasn’t the game done and ready to go before it was put up for funding?

I feel for those who backed this. I really do. This is a horrible situation and a stain on the entire industry when things like this happen.

That said, I really really DO hope that I’m entirely wrong and you all get your game. Eric did post in the kickstarter comments yesterday.

Box Retail version also reduced to us$54.99 (from $59.99).

Still working on getting printed sculpts, but our 3d printers have been 100% tasked to making PPE for frontline workers for the past 3 months.

If we ordered before the price drop, does anything change there?

Send me your email address AND city+state/province+country in a private message and I’ll refund you $5 via PayPal (we don’t have any control over payments made through The Game Crafter as it’s a 3rd party service).

A co-worker of mine just told me today that he passed up buying a complete copy (less a bit of box damage) of this version for CA$70 last week because he didn’t think it was legitimate … I screamed at him.

Only thing I heard is from an e mail Larrys working on a new game. Don’t quote me on this but I thought it was a napoleon game. I’ll have to recheck.

      Correct, “Imperial Boarders”.

There’s even video out of it being play tested. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q2Tp3ndePZk)

However, it’s not Axis and Allies related and not being published through WotC.

    • RE: Thinning Paint and Fine Details?

Thinning your paints will allow you to make multiple very thin coats (with sufficient drying time between coats) instead of 1 or 2 quick thick coats. What this does is provides a smoother, more detailed paint job instead of the typical globs of paint that thick paints will provide on small surfaces.

Definitely thin them. Regular water works fine for acrylics. Distilled water is preferred (no contaminants).

Regarding enamel, people have used them to good effect, but I personally hate them. I find enamels too difficult to work with, take too long to dry compared to acrylics and they smell bad.

    • I Will Never Grow Up moving AGAIN - Permanent location inbound!

I Will Never Grow Up Games is moving once more, for the final time to a permanent location!

As a result, we will have very little stock available during the transition and new orders will be slower than usual to ship as we renovate/remodel the new location and prepare to move.

We hope to have everything back up and running 100% as of Dec 1.

Thank you for your business and your patience during this disruption!

Ah yes, well, this thread is from 2023.

Not quite sure why questions about IWNGU were placed here to resurrect this thread but, not my call.

@Imperious-Leader Oh, geez. It sounds like it was a rough ride.

I have to assume IL is saying “no” to FMG not being around.

IWNGU was great while it lasted (10 years) but life gets in the way and the decision was made to shelf the company, going out while we were still riding high.

@IWillNeverGrowUp I tried your site today. It’s still down from the postal strike. Will it be returning or have you pretty much sold out? Tx

We’re done. We have very limited stock left and there are far too many uncertainties to even consider reopening.

@IWillNeverGrowUp sad to hear if what happened to your business, best of luck

Thanks! I was hesitant at first, but I think I made the right choice. It was just far too much work and headache for something that was making very little extra cash.

    • RE: Can an Axis and Allies -style US Civil War game actually work?

It absolutely can work, and work well.

Robert Otto created one in May 2022 called Total Civil War 1861-1865 and had it produced in limited quantities as a full boxed set … but at $350 a copy it was expensive (though considering only about 50 … maybe 100 … were printed, it makes sense to me (as a publisher)).

Unfortunately I don’t think he plans on doing it again and the website he had for taking orders is no longer available.

As for why it wasn’t released by MB/Wizards/Et.al. is probably because of a lower demand (even if only perceived) vs other projects. They also pretty much abandoned anything new or novel for the line quite a long time ago and just updated or tweaked and rehashed everything repeatedly. Their last great ‘innovation’ was A&A Zombies. Now that it’s in the hands of Renegade Games, who knows; they’re more open to new games.

Yup, FMG closed it’s doors several years ago and we (I Will Never Grow Up Gaming) are the ones who have all remaining stock.

Historical Board Gaming also sells some FMG Combat Dice as our US reseller.

    • RE: Have you guys seen this big anouncement for A&A?

I will note, Renegade doesn’t make any games with plastic units. That would seem to be a pretty big hurdle to me to taking on A&A. At this point, maybe that is just fire and forget for the old stuff as its all subcontracted to China, which has all the old molds and production down pat. But anything new, and easy to see renegade losing its shirt.

      I wouldn’t say they don’t make ANY games with plastic “units”. There are at least three;

      Dead Men Tell No Tales
      My Fathers Work
Power Rangers Heroes of the Grid
And it looks like maybe their GI Joe game may have some in there …

Admittedly not in the hundreds of pieces like A&A, but they are highly detailed molded miniatures (including a fancy separate miniatures pack upgrade for DMTNT).

TBH, for a publisher the size of Renegade, they’d have zero issues dealing with plastic minis. If a small time publisher like me can manage without any hurdles (if I could get the funding that is), they can as well. COST would be something that they’d have to factor in but that’s beyond our knowledge as we have no idea how well capitalized they may be or what their risk tolerance is.
