    • RE: What if?

Battle of Britain for World War II, no doubt.

A successful invasion of England would probably have left the USA out of the war and allowed Japan Access to Empire assets almost unchecked.

However, D-Day is the most important event for the post war. D-Day, as an operation did not really change the result of the war. Germany would have been beaten back the the Soviet Union, it may have taken longed, but it was looking inevitable.

However, having Empire and US forces in Western Europe at the end of the war stopped Stalin from creating a full communist europe, and probably won the Cold War for the USA in the long run.

    • RE: If Japan had attacked the USSR, would Germany have defeated the Soviets?

NO NO NO a thousand times No!

1.) Japan was already heavily committed in a land war in China
2.) Battle of Khalkhin Gol in 1938 left the Japanese feeling reluctant to engage the Soviet Union in a land war
3.) Japan did not have huge mechanized armies, The Japanese army was not the Wermacht. Fighting and staying supplied in Siberia is a logistical nightmare.
4.) Japan was forced into a defensive posture within 6-7 months of the US finally joining the war, making offensive operations after this point limited and costly.
5.) The Soviet Far east did not contain the resources Japan needed for the war, The Dutch East Indies and French Indo China did.

If Japan made a serious attempt to invade the Soviet Union, via Siberia they would have lost the war very very quickly.

    • RE: The Effect of British Commonwealth Troops in WWII

I don’t know the exact figures but I do know a sizeable portion of the British Army was made up of elements from all over the empire.

I do know that New Zealand contributed more soldiers per capita than any other nation in the western allies.

John Keegan, the very well regarded military historian discribed the New Zealand Soldier as the best light infantry of the 20th century.

The main objections were how un fun it was to play the Soviets, how the game was pretty stacked against the axis (they could win, but only if they played really well), and the slow pace.

    • Swaying the masses!

Greetings to the entire board! This is my first post, and hopefully one of many. If you check my signature you will see the background of a keen, skilled and hardcore wargamer

I have recently purchased A&A50 and I love it. I’ve been playing a Pbem version for a month or so as my copy has taken forever to ship itself from the US to Godzone. (That’s local slang for New Zealand, Aoetearoa or middle earth, whatever you want to call the country i live in  :-D )

Now my gaming group did not like A&A classic, and have not played revised. Any suggestions on how to get them over the “A&A had issues but A&A50 is way better” hurdle?

Thank you all for any advice, and i hope to become a contributing member of the site.
