      In original AA, once had 1 transport  take out 2 fighters without loss. What was odd is the combat took like 6 rounds. 1st fighter wasnt killed until 4th round of combat. Thats a lot of misses from the fighters.

      I remember I bought Risk for my 10 yr old son to try. He was doing really, reallly well his first game, then the dice turned against him for the first time.
      As the tears welled up in his eyes I thought about what I could say to comfort him. I thought back to all my 20+ years of gaming experience.
      All I could think of was: “I 'm sorry. I know it’s unfair, but you’re just going to have to get used to that.”

      Can I ignore a transport and yet still attack it on the same turn?

      @jim010:

      I amphibiosly attack Philipines.  There is a transport in the sea zone.  My BBs can ignore the transport and do shore bombardment, while I hit the transport with planes and/or other ships?

      No.  If you attack the transport, everything attacks it.  You can either kill it or bombard, not both.

      @jim010:

      While I have your attention, can I build a minor factory on a zone worth 1 IPC?

      No.

      Can a newly captured Naval Base be used to repair a friendly ship?

      @Krieghund:

      @Vareel:

      This is really simple, if your ship starts out in a sea zone adjacent to a friendly naval base and is damaged during your repair phase, right before the purchase phase, then it becomes repaired.  So yes it would get repaired.

      Yup, it’s that simple.

      Excellent. Thanks, guys.

      @Fleetwood:

      As a side note, not attacking z2 doesn’t mean the Allies get a totally free pass in the Atlantic. Say Germany commits a sub and 2-3 fighters to the Med cruiser. 2/3 of the time the sub lives. If Germany builds a bomber G1 and the med sub lives and the Baltic subs escape, they will still be able to kill a round one Allied move to z8 2/3 of the time. That’s 3 subs, 4 fighters, 2 bombers vs 2 destroyers, 1 sub, 1 carrier, 2 fighters, 1 cruiser, and 4 transports using this calculator. http://www.dskelly.com/misc/aa/aasim.html

      Are you saying that Germany should buy a cruiser and a destroyer for the Med on G1, and not use the Z8 sub to splash the Canadian transport, but retreat it into the Med (Z13 is as far as it can reach)? This takes away half of Germany’s income, which means it can only commit 20 IPCs to the land battle with Russia, and allows UK to retain both of its Atlantic transports. I don’t know if that is a good move…

      Hey Incline,

      I was in the same boat with AA50 and perhaps this might help.  Here’s a post that I posted on fieldmarshalgames.com forum site.

      “Here is a folding game/poker table that I built for Axis & Allies. Quite a few hours and dollars to put together and it being my first table, I think it turned out pretty good! Now I don’t have AA50 but I did, with time and effort, make my own version. The map was printed to 28x48” (map was created by Imperious Leader that I downloaded from Gameboardgeek.com) and I even went as far to make the combat board, National production/research chart and the nation cards. I repainted the pieces so they match because I don’t have AA50 and had to mix pieces together to replicate it. I must say it turned out well and it was a lot of fun!"

      Here is the link to the post as well for more pics.

      One minor map change that would make AA42 (and AAR) gameplay much better IMO.

      This would be interesting to play out. Something would have to be done with the UK navy off Australia or else they could just take it. Maybe putting two inf on the island would be a deterrent. I imagine it would fall to America whenever they felt like taking it out, since they can outspend JP by 12 ipcs. If Japan sends all it’s navy there then Russia and UK are laughing. It would be nice to have more options in the Pacific but I still think it’s not enough to threaten America and would only distract Japan.

      @Incline:

      Thanks for the responses, guys. Appreciate the help!

      Just went ahead and ordered AAP40 from Amazon. Looking forward to getting it.

      I’m definitely gonna try and get into playing both AA42 and AAP40 online. What’s the standard in the community when it comes to playing the games online? Do the majority of you prefer playing by forum, playing by email (both of which are still somewhat confusing to me, but I’m sure I’ll learn with time), or TripleA? I’ve also heard about ABattlemap….What’s the general consensus on the best way to play?

      I believe that the majority of the players active on this website who play Axis and Allies online use ABattlemap to play here on this website using PBF (Play By Forum), but I know that there are also several players who play using TripleA.  I believe that play by e-mail is basically a thing of the past, but I could be wrong.  I personally have only played online using ABattlemap, and yes, the very first time that I played, I was a little confused, but after the first round of play, I was playing online just like someone who had played online for quite a while (not actual gameplay, but posting correctly and such).  It’s actualy not that difficult once you jump in.
