@dsumner Well the cartography is decent, as is the detail. color of oceans is correct and the sea lanes of trade. Logo is a step above the V3.

RE: Allies advice with an aggressive Japanposted in Axis & Allies 1942 Online
OMG those guys are lets say not the best. The British guy and 2 others. I have never seen games like they play. The key is builds and finding a way to take the money islands where UK gets some and USA gets at least one and both build a factory and churn out naval. UK needs to find a way to sink the German Medd fleet with air builds, and protect Egypt. Then with 2 factories churn out 5 tanks heading toward FIC and swinging North. The whole thing depends on Axis buys. To give you exact buys, movements, combat results, would be ridiculous. You need to find the flaws in his play and punish them without mercy. A few ideas you can follow on UK1, but that depends on what Germany did, which depends on what USSR did.
But on UK 1 you might buy 3 fighters, or some naval like a 2nd carrier, 1 fighter, 1 sub. You take Borneo and New guinea . you kill the destroyer and transport. You send the sub to probably stack with which ever SZ you think Japan might send a destroyer too, or attack the Japanese sub --because alot of people don’t have them set to submerge if attacked.
USA needs for sure a Carrier if the Hawaiian one was sunk, They need 1-2 Transports and land units ( now having 3 transports) so they can land 6 men, but they need to move by Island Hopping these assets
They need a few subs and probably a 2nd battleship. Turn 2 buy bombers and bring them to the Solomons.
Eventually it will be Philippines as a target, but Borneo and Indies will be already captured. This is a basic plan that will require you to perfect and play single player for this and try to emulate the ideas that were used against you in your defeats.

RE: Statistical Model for Predicting the Winnerposted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
@akreider2 said in Statistical Model for Predicting the Winner:
A classic example is that 538 model had Trump with a 20% of winning the US presidential election. Now I really don’t want to get into any political discussion, but it was completely possible that even though the 538 model favored Clinton, that Trump could still easily win. Any Axis and Allies player will be able to tell you how often unlikely events happen (so far my most unlikely dice roll was 1 in 100,000).
Well Truth be known is Trump had 1.2 million votes more than clinton when he won the election. In California and New York where the voting booths closed late, another ~6 million votes came in democrat for states that everybody knew would go for clinton. So your example of “bad dice” really wasn’t that at all. It was poor polling and media promoting clinton and having their minds convinced of an easy clinton victory.
My background: I’ve always been fascinated by statistics. At age 5 I won a contest estimating the number of smarties (M&Ms but it was in the UK) in a jar. I was reading the World Almanac at age 11. I wanted to be an economist at age 12. I ended up with a MA in Sociology. I’m a part-time professional gambler since 2016 on PredictIt (and have consistently made money for the past 5 years). Though I’m only familiar with linear and logistic regression. There might be better techniques to use (and if so I’d be happy to hear about them).
My hypothesis is that among good players, positioning leads to IPC gains and can be modeled. I haven’t tested this hypothesis in Global 1940.It is necessary that UK/USA need to buy naval and air to shuck to Europe. The ratios of land/sea/air units are different and if Germany takes Moscow, but to take a VC you need land units and once the Axis take karelia, they need 2 more and these are attainable by land (Moscow and India and or possibly Hawaii)
Based on force projection the Axis are better poised to do this because they start so many land units. In a way totals IPC totals might predict some direction of victory, but like in Poker you can be on the nub with a “chip and a chair” and still beat your opponent with a number of all in’s your chip stack has little to do with win %, except in a casual way.

One more thing the Germans have too many u-boat items, can you make more dealing with luftwaffe, volkstrum, Waffen SS, or perhaps even have a collection of “Generals” that aid attacks and you can play one per turn?

RE: Axis and Allies MB edition: inquiry form included in the boxposted in Axis & Allies Classic
@midnight_reaper I prefer a space game of alien empires. I was even looking at making and plotting star systems in such a way that exactly mirrored 1942.2 space by space. Then getting some guy to 3D small scale ships. The game could have alot more technologies and even races with unique qualities ( like the Cylons). Of course this is with D12 dice so their is good differentiation of warship classes.

The equation has to account for total attack factors in distance (range) of VC and production centers spawning what quantity of units

RE: Axis & Allies Anniversary upgraded versionposted in Customizations
Night Fighters: German bombers can perform SBR missions but defending AA guns need to roll twice to obtain a hit ( two ones to score a kill).
Baltic Sea Defense: Any Allied ship that enters the Baltic or leaves the Baltic must avoid German sea mines. Each ship is rolled by the German player and a 1 result destroys the ship

RE: Forums Feedback Reduxposted in Website/Forum Discussion
I see no conflicts whatsoever. Everything is predicated on the most recent post. That includes the original post if it was created within that sequence. Also, the votes thing is really stupid and useless and adds zero value to this site. It means nothing and nobody would use it to determine what to look at. Its nothing more than a “beauty contest”. Actually, the thing you had for individual posters…forgot what you called it… sort of “prestige rating” of individual members… that was a waste too.
Lastly, what is needed is to toggle OFF sections of new reply’s of entire categories. For example, i don’t want to sort thru pages of online games being played. I don’t consider these as posts. I only want to see anything else. The ability to just not see the tun by turn posts of online games would be great.

RE: Axis & Allies Nova games 1981posted in Axis & Allies Classic
They were dropped because Larry would have to come up with nifty pieces for neutrals and that was not in the budget.
The game does not say the Americans cant build a factory in China and the game has no limits on numbers of units that may be placed, so if you play it its soon a broken game. I bought the nova game like a few days after it came out and really loved it till i found this trick, but back then i never conceived of ‘house rules to fix games’
The Atomic bomb was pretty devastating as well.

RE: Naval retreat, unload troops?posted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
Well the ideas i speak of are not new. AARHE was created back in 2004-5 and had almost verbatim these ideas and the document was created by about 50 people on this site. It eventually won something runner up to “internet wargame of the year” Don’t really care about that, but it was play-tested to death based on 2004 Revised and it works. Axis and Allies Revised Historical Edition is the full name. Its on this site somewhere. I don’t believe for a second that AA is some totally abstract game. G40 has alot of realism built into it. Its alot more complicated than “Guadalcanal”
