RE: House Rules Compilation & Discussion: Oil!posted in House Rules
@Imperious-Leader’s Oil Centers
https://www.axisandallies.org/forums/topic/15500 & various other places (help me out here, @Imperious-Leader)
Territories have Oil Values, and Oil limits both production and movement of mechanized units. Total values = total number of mech units that can be bought or move that turn.My idea is that enemy oil centers are possible IPC producers each turn with a roll of one D6, however the first turn of capture you don’t receive any income to model the fact that the original owner player damaged the facility. Every other turn just roll D6 and add to production. Neutral oil centers are treated the same way. The other idea is you must own at least one oil center, or you must roll a D6 and that result is removed from your production each turn. Also, while you don’t own any oil centers, your land units all move one space.

RE: Advice to Renegade! What is on your top 10 for adjustments to G40 3rd edition?posted in House Rules
Using the molds from 1941 and adding a few new ones, Technology must be mandatory part of the game.
Heavy Tanks
Escorts
Light Carriers or “escorts”
Paratroopers
Generals
Battle-cruisers 4-4-2 one hit ships
Heavy Bombers
Fortifications ( Seigfried, Maginot, Gibrater, Liege, etc)Map should be roll up Neoprene or Vinyl 72x36
Dry eraser IPC board
Plastic tray with 3 removable compartments (land sea, air)
Battleboard on the map
Neutrals have dynamic forces and IPC values and they can be influenced, Also Brazil is not allied to USA!
Add Azores, Mauritania
Allow invasions and fighting in Antarctica as per HBG “UFO business”

RE: Advice to Renegade! What is on your top 10 for adjustments to G40 3rd edition?posted in House Rules
My suggestions are in most cases “TECH IMPROVEMENTS” In some cases are additional tools to give player options, which is what makes these games so interesting. For example a Battlecruiser is a “tween” unit between Battleship and Cruiser and not all nations may buy them, but need a 4 defense or offensive unit, plus if you add a speed of 3, you got a utility in that to use in special occasions and its cheaper than a Battleship, but the only thing is it takes one hit. I have played with this type of unit for years and it works and does not break the game. Paratroopers would be a tech unit BTW, but all nations should be capable of its development, even though all nations did in fact have Paratroopers in the war, sake Italy. What is not a “Tech” but nobody but me seems to flog its very notion, is those very scraps of paper with a corresponding pledge to pay the borrower back at the end of the conflict known as “War Bonds” This is not a tech!!! and yet people just pass it off as some invention that was paramount to Allied victory. Rather its: We got nothing left in our mind to put down as a potential tech, that’s not political “atomic bomb avoidance syndrome” due to our puny understanding of History and so i remember Rosey the riveter signs from some book as being iconic, so war bonds was born.
Stupid.

RE: [House Rules] The Cruiserposted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
Keep all OOB units the same
Cruiser OOB is now Heavy Cruiser but moves 3 spaces no matter where it is
new Light Cruiser is a 2-3, which is in between 3-3 and 2-2, cost is between too, but does not move 3 unless its in port. Reason is they were slower.Peeps might buy the Light because of defense, or if they had 9 IPC left

RE: Further Features and Ideasposted in Axis & Allies 1942 Online
I don’t like the tit for tat dice roller. This means say attacker misses on everything, defender likewise. Next round attacker may get 3 hits and last second all the defending units hit for same amount. Its not the luck i remember on MSN game zone when we played classic AA via Milton Bradley computer game.
But alas i am hooked. I think im playing in every online game, and training for the Harry Larris setup, which is terrible and gives nothing for the axis. The German Bomber is out of range of the UK fleet on G1. But what it may do is balance the game. But i win regardless. Don’t understand why more people didn’t sink $17 bucks. Its well worth it to at least support the possibility of a G40 version of this game.
Getting tired on the constant reloads and freeze ups. They need to fix this ASAP, and they need to address why it takes so long to load up available games online.

If you engage such a round and the purchases were secret, Germany could do a G2 Sealion

RE: Bonus Movement is Unrealistic Nonsenseposted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
@poptech Its a game with 6 month turns, if it were 4 month, everything would still be ok. I suspect when you see an infantry unit—thats ONE GUY, or a tank is ONE TANK. The pieces and movement are representative of quantity and time. Thats it. Nonsense ended.

RE: Is Artillery Useful?posted in Axis & Allies 1942 2nd Edition
It depends on your need for mobility or force projection. Russia needs Artillery to punch back, Germany needs the 2 movers to force the issue for Russia. The middle game comes and things change. Russia needs tanks at this stage.

RE: Working on a New Map 40/41: Seeking Suggestionsposted in House Rules
@black_elk With that many sea zones and land areas, the game will take weeks. People don’t have that kind of time to play such a game. Its just too much to worry about, so replayability is doubtful in my estimation. Also, Greenland looks dreadful as if Godzilla was trying to pull it apart like play-doh. I would concentrate on making player options the key offering that exceed global 40 with new strategies that can lead to victory, not another map with hundreds of new sea zones and land areas. IMO

RE: Bonus Movement is Unrealistic Nonsenseposted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
“just waiting for someone to come up with a valid explanation for buildings giving magical movement to planes and ships. No one has done this yet.”
Thats the easy part of the problem… centers of logistical support (Rail, Fuel stocks, Quick industrial pathways, established airports that can handle the numbers of planes, centers of trade, population centers of the military industrial complex).
A Batteship cant just park at the Malibu pier and fuel up. If it did , it would have limited range unless Malibu can supply 4 months worth of food, fuel, ammo, etc. It has to go to San Diego or Hawaii, or Puget Sound.
A B17 cant land at Santa Monica Airport and have anything available. It as to go to Paterson, or a military base where an airport with sustainable services exists.
So the real movement of ships is 3, the real movement of planes is +1, the fact that sometimes a Stuka takes off from my driveway, means it has less range than leaving Tempelhof. You and people like you are looking at everything backwards. Planes are being held back in movement and their full capabilities are only seen in terms of range, if they leave an established centre that provides support, parts, fuel, ammo, training, Tikka Masala, etc
Do you not understand now???

RE: Renegade Con Virtual: Axis and Alliesposted in News
@domanmacgee Oh with Beamdog, i tried to tell them that a huge map print on Neoprene using the 1942 online map file would be a good seller, the new look then would have a whole new group of buyers who never played the actual boardgame and are used to the online presence instead. a 1942.3 must have neutrals with IPC and dynamic armies ( special pieces is cream color for them) and tech rules that don’t include crap non technology like “War bonds” and the optional rule in 1942.2 regarding escorts and interceptors made standard.

RE: [1942 SE] Balancing the game suggestionposted in House Rules
@baron-Münchhausen i think the game is balanced ( NO BID NEEDED IN 3.0)
But im about player options and alternate ways to win.
Russia needs a bomber and like 2 more units
Germany needs to have the 2 planes in UKR out of reach and 1 infantry in Afrika and 1 ship plus 1 more infantry UKR
UK needs to be out of reach of Japanese AP ad DD but one more ship or 1-2 more units in India
Japan needs 1 CA more and 1 more in Manchukuo, possibly 1 inf more on money island ( Borneo)
USA I know this is spring 42 but it would be nice if we replace the USA CV in Hawaii with BB, the carrier and fighter are gone…
Add a few land units in USA, 1-2 infantry in china more. China is a road apple and too easy for Japan. The far east Russian group needs to be at least 1 art and possibly 1 tank, or plane ( possibly move 1 of her 3 planes over)
Their is no action from Russia to ManchukuoPlayer options are the best way to make the game more fun. I learned this from Axis Roll BTW. Not as much Historical, but player options.
Chess has more way to win then grains of sand on every beach on Earth. If we can be more flexible like Chess, AA will succeed

RE: Make paratrooper unit standard in 1940 Global Bal Modposted in Other Axis & Allies Variants
I would prefer that Airborne units have elite weapons and short supplies ( short duration think). As a result one bomber dropping such a unit, that unit attacks at 3 in the 1st round, 2 in round 2 and 1 the rest of the rounds. You can have a limited number of such units or based on Historical, or based on the IPC you spent raising these units.
Cost to upgrade one infantry unit to airborne=2-3 IPC… off top of head each nation can have 3-6 units
Germany 6
Japan 5
Italy 3
USSR 3
UK 4
USA 6
France 1 or Anzac 1 -
RE: [1942 SE] Balancing the game suggestionposted in House Rules
@8d88 but also change up the far east group. it wasn’t only infantry, it was mechanized, 1 tank, 1 art and 2-3 infantry.
The Manchukuo force should have similar composition. and the Americans in China should have 1-2 more infantry, and 1 artillery at least. China had 500 divisions of admittedly poor quality, but that’s reduced to Japanese army road apples.
