    • RE: Battle of Britain G1 Bombing build strategies

      Bombing UK factory to 20 would be average with 4 bombers but only if none of them are shot down by anti-aircraft.  Since there’s a 66% chance that one of them will be hit I think 15 damage would be a safer assumption when running the scenarios.  Not sure how much that 5 IPC changes the odds and expected results though.

      I love Sea Lion, I just think it’s a trap.

      So G1 is 2 bombers + sub, G2 is 9 transports? If UK scrambles they can defeat the German cruiser and prevent the assault.  What else are you bringing to the sea zone to prevent that?

      @TheMethuselah:

      If Germany does not buy for Sealion on G2 and US goes KJF, then UK just buys Egypt/Persia minors and never buys a single unit in London until US swings back to Europe. In other words, if you’re not going Sealion, why bother bombing London?

      Exactly.

      @Shin:

      As far as Sealion goes - it’s a sucker’s move.  Has any game with two decent players ever been won by a sealion?  The thing is, you take UK, but then what?  You spend the rest of the game trying (and failing) to hold the original German lines, and you never get more than Novgrood.  Sure, you might take Egypt, but that’s not enough.  How is winning even possible?

      I think it’s more of an opportunistic strategy, take it if it’s there.  If UK max protects and Russia has stacked the eastern front then you’re right, it’s a losing proposition.  However if you can catch the allies off guard, Sealion and quickly revert back to the East then it can be successful.

    • RE: What creates a hostile sea zone?

      I think his first question relates to this example:

      Let’s say a seazone has a German sub and also a UK destroyer.  America wants to bring in only a transport in combat movement.

      Legal or not?  Basically does the UK destroyer act as an escort to allow the transport to ignore the sub or would it have to be an American surface escort.

      @Black_Elk:

      They’re pretty insane. You have to take all 3 enemy capitals to win, by which point half your players will have fallen asleep in their chairs!
      :-D

      The Allies should only need Berlin or Tokyo to win the game, not Berlin, Tokyo and Rome.

      I like playing VC’s because if not the game could literally go on forever… it’s a line in the sand.

      I like to know exactly what I need, and what my opponent needs, to win.

    • RE: US Invasion of Spain

      @theROCmonster:

      I don’t know how you guys are attacking the true neutrals with the allies in Global. The problem with attacking the Neutrals is that you need US to invest heavily in the attack to make it pay off, while this is great on the Europe side of the map, Japan is surely going to win if you invest that heavily with US in Atlantic. 20 ground troops a turn is Amazing for America landing in Spain every turn, but 60 dollars worth of infantry means nearly nothing is going towards Japan. Sounds great, but as usual I think people really underestimates Japans ability to win. India is a sure thing, and if Japan is building fleet, then Hawaii would be a sure thing as well.

      I think it depends on how the game is going in Europe.  US might not need that many ground troops to land in Spain and hold it with UK reinforcements/air.

    • RE: Allies Strategy opinion

      To quote YG, “the US should pee carriers”.  :-D

      You’ll also want atleast 1-2 destroyers in your fleet, more if G goes heavy sub builds.

      One possible US1 pacific heavy purchase (I think suggested by Wild Bill) is 2 carriers and a battleship off Western US.  Ofcourse if J attacks J1 then you could go with more less expensive builds since the factories would all be majors.

    • RE: Where to build Japanese factory: Poll Question

      @Zhukov44:

      Both are very good spots.  Malaya is close to India and has a naval base on the strategically essential SZ 37.  Fico is even more valuable strategically, though it lacks a naval base.  I tend to build Fico first simply because I can get a factory there early, while the Malaya factory (if I build it) has to wait till J3 at least.

      I’ve built a Naval base in FIC my last two games, I like it.  Makes attack on India J3 a serious threat.

    • RE: Extra Pieces Global 1940 2nd Ed

      You might be better off just buying the pieces from HBG then the whole games if you’re not going to play them. That way you can just buy the pieces you want/need.  Also HBG’s Tiger tanks are much more detailed then the 1941 version.

    • RE: Making the Mediterranean interesting

      @ghr2:

      Just played a game where Germany spent heavy first two turns in air/navy for the med.  When russia is making between 55 & 65 and germany barely makes 40, you know the game is over.

      I’d agree in Europe, but Japan can still win the game for the Axis.  Just had a game where Germany failed Sea Lion miserably but Japan still took her 6th VC a few turns later.

      It’s a fine balance but I prefer to add to the Luftwaffe and send it to the Med early.  It can then be brought deep into Russia in later turns when it’s needed.  More flexible than naval builds.

      @Young:

      The only issue I have with all this is, how will Russia be spending this new found income?…against Germany!

      Yes… the balance problem is the German advance to crush Moscow, however, the Pacific dominance of Japan is a bigger issue in our games. Is there anything here that will prevent Japan from doing what it does?

      Tanks/mechs into China or thru the middle east to India?

      @variance:

      The worst NO is the one that says Russia gets $10 for the rape of Berlin.
      The second worst NO is the one that says Japan gets $5 if they control Guam, Wake, Midway, Gilbert and Solomons

      Agreed!  If Russia controls Berlin the game is over.  How about an NO that actually affects the game?

      And we’ve never played a game where Japan even attempts the outer perimeter NO.  All that for $5?  Giant waste of time.
