The US can also collect $5 bonuses for controlling Philippines and/or 1 land unit in France.

I believe the only things that Germany could do to bring the US into the war are:
1. Attack US (navy or land)
2. Successfully capture London -

We don’t bid and we’re about 50/50 split win wise. Seems pretty balanced to us.

RE: Turn 3 Sealion with Turn 3 Calcutta crunch. Thoughts?posted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
@IKE:
ROC, you didn’t mention a G destroyer buy. Couldn’t UK2 just build a sub for sz109 and sz110 then scramble a plane bringing the sub up, now the G trannies can’t offload. G3 vs G4 sealion can also make a huge difference when holding back Russia.
I thought you could only scramble planes from island airbases and the United Kingdom is not considered an island according to page 25 of the Europe 1940 rulebook. Was this changed in the 2nd edition?
Yes, 3 planes can scramble from any coastal airbase. UK could actually scramble 6 planes into sz109 making it a great spot for early UK navy depending on how much of the Luftwaffe can reach it.

In other words, any Ally with a capital (not the Dutch, obviously) can possibly collect from West India EXCEPT UK Europe.
Note also that UK Europe can NEVER build facilities on West India. If UK forces liberate West India, it is UK controlled, but when UK controlled, only India could build facilities there, and never London
Would London still collect the IPC’s since they took control of it from Japan and the capital is in enemy hands?

RE: Transports and the turn Japan DOWposted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
Any powers’ transports that are in a sea zone which was made hostile due to a declaration of war either upon them by another power
I’m not following what you mean in this part. I get that the power making the war declaration can load, but if they were already at war before their turn started then they would not be able to load in a hostile sea zone. (The UK/Anzac declaration of war example above)
-
RE: Transports and the turn Japan DOWposted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
First, the sub does not make the sea zone hostile so Japan could load in sz6 either way.
Second, even if there was a surface warship there, Japan can still load transports in the turn that it declares war. (Unless UK moved a ship in that sea zone and then Anzac declared war on Japan, now Japan cannot load in that sea zone, but that is a different situation). Specific to your question, yes if it is indeed Japan who declares war, they can load. It is an exception to the rule.
What I’m now wondering is if this exception applies to the other powers as well?

Before they enter the war T4, no probably not realistic against a competent player.
But before they’re in position to take a VC back, yes, you can. T4 they move to Gibraltar, then you can block them with ships or bomb the Gibraltar airbase so they can only move 2 spaces.

I don’t think it’s a good use of Soviet resources. If Germany drops fleet in the Black sea, Allied planes can destroy it.

Good point. I was thinking as if there wasn’t a CR & CV, then the planes couldn’t hit the UK sub and the offload couldn’t happen.

Painful decision, but if it looks like the USA will loose their bombers anyway the next GE-turn, might as well take bombers as losses first (USA can also attack with carrierplanes from #102).
Furthermore, German bombers seem to be the only planes that can reach Eire the next GE-turn so it depends on how many Germany has left and how many FTR the allies can get in Eire for protection.
Interesting, another Allied trick. Our group never stages in sz102.

RE: Turn 3 Sealion with Turn 3 Calcutta crunch. Thoughts?posted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
US bombers bought on US2 (in response to G2 tt buy) can zap 110 and land in Eire US3 if London mech takes it UK1.
Great idea, that would be a first for me. Ofcourse any US surviving bombers are likely killed next G turn but worth the sacrifice I’d think.

RE: Turn 3 Sealion with Turn 3 Calcutta crunch. Thoughts?posted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
From my experience, if the allies destroy the kriegsmarine it doesn’t really matter with how much land troops Germany wins. For Russia, since they’re stuck in London anyway.
For Liberating London it matters, ofc, but as said, it’s both optional and dangerous for the allies to do that (the 6VC win of Japan).Big IF though. American bombers should not have a place to land. Keeping the kriegsmarine alive is a must, to move those units and trannies back into the Baltic to keep a threat on Leningrad.
In the worst case scenario, Germany looses >2 air during Sea Lion and (figuratively speaking) every plane lost is an additional millstone around Germany’s neck for the turns to come.
In the best case scenario (<= 2 lost air in London), Germany can indeed push the Russians back with Italy’s help. IIRC, this stops as soon as the axis’ supplylines have become longer and that of the Russians shorter (i.e. closer to Moscow). Approximately, Leningrad and all areas along its longitude seems to be the furthest the axis can get in Russia. That’s why people call it a stalemate, I guess (at least why I do).
With London, Germany doesn’t need Moscow though. Without UK purchasing Italy should be able to control the Med and take Cairo.

RE: Late Game ideasposted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
Is there a second front open by UK/US in the west when Moscow falls? It really depends on what the rest of the board looks like when Moscow falls ~G9.
I agree, if the Axis don’t have a decisively strong hold in either theater then the war starts to turn and the Allies dictate the game by where they spend their money.

G3 Sealion + J1DOW is stressful on US no doubt. Japan can also setup for India crush J3 if they can hold a spot to land all their planes. If so, J2 buy AB + NB in FIC/Kwangsi.

RE: German IPCsposted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
30(base) + 19(France loot) + 2(Finland) + 1(Bulgaria) + 2(Yugo) + 4(France) + 5(NO Peace with Russia) + 5(NO Norway, Denmark) = 68
Thank you! I didn’t realize that Germany got those 19 points from France. So for example if Germany takes London on G3 does Germany get all those points as well? (I think it’s something like 28)
Yes they do but just to clarify, its a one time situation u get the loot, following turns or if recaptured by axis again its just the regular base IPCs!
Are you sure about that? If liberated by an ally, correct there would not be any exchange of bank. But, if the axis then recapture London they would take their bank again.
