Sounds like an inexperienced Axis player. What did you do to keep Japan focused on the north? If you stack siberia an experienced Axis player will just go destroy them and then move on.

RE: Dark skies and other strategy questionsposted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
I didn’t think the of the fighters coming from UK (in my limited experience so far, they get used for scramble, defense of UK, and supporting the destroyer in taking out subs or the German battleship. So I’ve only simulated the combat with the UK bomber, the Egypt fleet and the Malta fighter. That obviously makes a difference and makes it much safer. I’d guess with 80% (1 UK fighter) to 95% 2 (UK fighter) odds, most Italy players aren’t going to try to scramble either. The British will lose the carrier and the two fighters after from a German counter but that will take some of the German air out of the game too.
thanks all for taking the time to walk me through this.
If the Germans make smart attacks turn 1 on the RN it doesn’t make sense to scramble. Now if they get cute and try to do too much then a scramble may be worth it.

I’ve combined in the med off Gibraltar a few times with a destroyer blocker and I liked it. I didn’t buy a airbase there either. If you keep North Africa the Germans can’t hit you with their airforce.

RE: Countering Kill UK First (Sealion + J1/J2 attack)?posted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
@Caesar:
Problem I had with J1 DOW is that do you ignore jacking loose USSR territories or do you just focus on China, Dutch, and UK territories? The problem I had with J1 is that if you do not take 10 dollars on the first turn, what was the point of it instead of riding US trade?
Take a look at cow’s J1 in his Japan Playbook sticky if you haven’t already. Only J1 if Russia doesn’t stack Siberia.
Taking FIC turn 1 means mIC turn 2, dropping units there turn 3.

@The:
U.S. got a foothold in southern France and upgraded to a major
I didn’t think you could build majors on a non-original territory.
Edit: I see someone else already addressed that.
What is GHG’s Middle Earth strategy?

How many planes are you losing to take it though?
It’s been awhile since I played but UK player typically buys two fighters in London.

RE: Anyone in the Twin Cities?posted in Player Locator
@Vukomanovich:
I play with a small group of fairly experienced players in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area. I am looking for players to add to our games, or join in with other groups to play.
I mostly play 1940 global, but am open to other versions. I have a home in the area with a table large enough to set up the full global game on, and am happy to host.
Experience is nice, but I am more than happy to teach the game to anyone.
My goal is simply to play the game more often.
Still playing? Would love to get a game going!

RE: Global 2nd edition Q+A ( AAG40.2)posted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
I have a question.
On page 16 of the Europe 1940, 2ed edition rulebook, the section on Scramble starts with this sentence:
“Scrambling is a special movement that the defender can make at the end of this phase.” (emphasis added)Now here is the situation. The neutrals are still neutral. Italy and Germany have airbases with fighters in Gibraltar and Morocco, but there are no axis ships in z91. ANZAC declares war on the neutrals and attacks Portugal and Rio de Oro. Since they are not attacking any axis power, only neutral territories, would I be correct in my interpretation of the above sentence from the rulebook, which is that the axis planes cannot scramble because the axis are not the defenders in this situation? The neutrals are the defenders; not the axis and so they cannot scramble.
Man that sounds like one weird game!

Good post Elrood, completely agree with you USA is very difficult when you’re up against skilled axis play in both hemisphere’s.

Whoops. We never play with tech, I didn’t even know that was one of the upgrades!

RE: United Kingdom Strategy (Video)posted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
Minor complexes can only build 3 units. Majors can no longer be built on territories in which the controlling country was not the original owner. Ex. USA cannot build a Major on Norway.
Edit: what wittmann said.

Or just talk to yourself if you’re alone (might give you an edge if the axis think you’re crazy).
lol. This is always part of my strategy against Nippon.

Thanks. That rule is certainly not cut and dry the way the rule-book is written but good to know the intent.

RE: Global 2nd edition Q+A ( AAG40.2)posted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
The first you can fly over a neutral is in the non-combat movement phase of the turn you attacked that neutral - that is, while Germany cannot fly over Spain during the combat move of this turn (other than to attack it), Germany CAN fly over Spain during the noncombat phase of this turn, because Spain is no longer neutral after Germany attacks Spain in that combat move with other units.
Where does it say that in the rules? If you are attacking Spain then you can fly over it, according to the rules. Where does it stipulate that you cannot fly over it in that combat phase, only non-combat?
Reading “Air units can’t fly over an unfriendly neutral unless they are attacking it” I interpret that as if I attack the neutral then I can also fly over it in combat phase. That’s why I’m wondering if you found further clarification on this than what I saw in the rulebook.

RE: German bomber strategy - How to play and How to counterposted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
Yeah I don’t see it either guys. I’m sure Nippon and I will keep working on it but we just don’t see how you deal with the massive Russian stack without adequate ground purchases. Germany can only make it so far before they are forced back. If all their fighters/tacs are sitting in Russia trying to protect the weak stack from a counter attack, they’re not threatening the Atlantic or Med.

RE: Lets talk about chipsposted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
not to hijack the thread, but i thought i’d let everyone know that WotC is shipping me a replacement board! I just sent them the same picture i shared with all of you and gave my discrepancy. Nice to know that there are still honest good business out there! Now if i could only find a way to get more 1942 2nd Ed chips!!!
I prefer these smaller chips too. The 1914 WWI game uses different shades of blue and reds of this same smaller size. I ordered a couple sets from HBG and we use:
grey 1
blue 2
green 3
red 5http://www.historicalboardgaming.com/Supplement-Bag-Chips-1914-WW1_p_1444.html
