      Italy is the soft underbelly of “Fortress Europe.”

      But Italy if is for a different thread.

      I think the “soft underbelly” reference was attributed to Churchill. The UK really wanted a different approach into Europe than the US. Not just Italy, but also Greece…it may have had to do with Germany pushing them out earlier…don’t know.

      In the actual war, I think going after Italy before D-Day may not have actually helped the war effort due to resources like vital transports being used up.

      @Ichabod:

      Lately it seems some Axis players have been purchasing a German Navy on round 1 and then they declare war on Russia later like round 3 or 4 because Germany builds navy. Germany then “threatens” London, but the real objective is Cairo and the middle east.

      As a counter to that growing threat, would it not makes sense for the UK to hit Iraq round 1 instead of other options being:

      1. Activate Persia
      2. Kill Ethiopia
      3. Taranto and Ethiopia
      4. Acivate Perisa and Hit Iraq (risky). You have to use the mech at Egypt and pick up the tank and an infantry from the med. Likely to not capture without taking a plane hit.

      Obviously doing Ethiopia and Taranto assumes risk. Maybe the same as Iraq and Taranto?

      Anyways, what are the thoughts on Iraq UK1?

      Iraq UK1 is an unnecessary risk. If you activate Persia UK1, you can attack Iraq UK2 with free troops and thus Egypt is better defended on UK1. You don’t lose your valuable airplanes rushing the attack. Turn order gives you the edge over Italy’s Syria landing.

      I accept the concede, The same battle of Yunnan has always different results. I once played vs Assam and I got 0 hits out of 12 and with you I get 8… I know it was a lot for China, but out of 12 inf, I am looking in the range of 4-6 hits.

      I rolled 9/10 AA gun defence hits against a 2004(?) Europe Sealion by hand once.  And I’ve seen plently more on this scale just as crazy  (22 planes at 3 hit nothing)

      Have I played hundreds of games of Axis and Allies?  Yes.  But not thousands.  These things do happen.

      That said - I do want to know more about MARTI and it’s code…
