      I tried different map tools over the years (ABattlemaps, TripleA, MapView, and a few others) and I still think MapView is the best tool for PBEM.

      If I remember correctly, when I started playing on this forum it was the most popular. That was back in 2003.
      I think it lost it’s popularity since the creator of MapView MotCreations don’t distribute the A&A modules anymore (copyright issues).

      I recently made a long search on the net for the modules but could only find the original A&A and an ugly revised modules.

      Fortunately, last month, I found the Europe and Pacific modules sitting in my old computer at my parents house!

      If anyone wants them, just send me a message with your email and I’ll send it to you.
      It would be even better if the admins want to host the files on this site :D

      I finaly went back to the store. They offered to exchange the box but first they opened the new one to check if it was ok.
      That one was also missing pieces. They opened an other one, same thing. I guess all the ones they had were like that.

      They offered to reimburse me but I asked if it would be ok if I kept the pieces from 2 box and they agreed !  :-D

      I like the new SMF forum. I miss the look and feel of the phpBB but the SMF seems to have a lot more functionnality.

      True, I’d probably do the same in that situation: Killing the Tran and regrouping in Kar.
      I’m interested to see your odds calculation (you can pm me).

      Cau would now be a dead zone, Kar too costly to take AND Germany attack on the British fleet would be more risky too without the Sub and/or Tran.

      Looks like a Russia Restricted game  :wink: but you don’t need to send EVERYTHING on Karelia. I usualy send some Inf towards the east and keep some Arm in the back to create counter-attack pressure.

      If you’re not playing RR then I beleive it’s pretty much game over already for the Axis.

      Not only do I agree with the transport purchase instead of the factory purchase, but I would also advocate that you buy infantry until you really need speed. Since you will be speedbumped the whole way to russia, having infantry is just as useful as tanks until you face a large stack, because you have a lot of air power to attack with.

      Right on the spot!  Also the transports add mobility towards the islands, Australia or Africa if needed.

      Although it might seem a good idea at first, a J1 factory on the continent is not optimal.
      I recommand you buy 2-3 transports instead. That way you’ll be able to deploy more troops to the continent.

      Hi everyone,

      I recently bought the AAE game and really like the improvements they made to the rules and the new units.
      I’m looking forward to play some PBEM so I downloaded and installed mapview but can’t seem to find the AAE module anywhere. I’ve searched the net but in vain.

      Anybody knows were I could find it ?

      I just bought the game also and, like you, am missing units.
      On the back of the box it says there should be 100 infantry.
      I only have 74, 13 are missing for germany and 13 for USA (I’m assuming each team should have 25 infantry).
      There are 6 destroyers missing but can’t tell for wich team.

      Anyway, I’m gona go back at the store to get an other box or get a refund if they are all like that.

      Yes, it is true.

      Inf is the best cost effective unit for defense.
      You need them in order to keep your more expensive units alive longer.
      This is both true on defense as on offense

      That’s what I think too.
      On the other hand it would mean that 1 die roll repeated X times has less chances that X dice rolled one time.

      An example of calculating each roll separately:

      Situation 1 - 2 Ftr defending over 3 rounds of battle.

      The Ftr would generate 1 hit (on average) each round (2 * 4/6 = 1.33), totaling in 3 hits for the first 3 rounds.

      Situation 2 - 6 Ftr defending over 1 round of battle.

      The 6 Ftr would generate 4 hits (on average) during the round (6 * 4/6 = 6)

      Of course, this is only valid with average dice rolls.

      I often write down this kind of battle predictions when I play to see if it’s worth attacking or not. It’s a bit tedious but worth it.
      I should really kick myself to finaly write a program to do it automaticaly.
      The only thing that I’m still not sure is whether I have to cary the decimals from round to round or not.

      Is there anyone good at statistics around here who could clear that out ?

      Well i recently started a PBEM against Hurkyl and he as russians play Russia Restricted moved 16 infantry, 2 fighters, and 3 tanks to karelia; leaving caucasus empty and only two infantry on Russia. If i took Russia, my front lines would have been weak enough for him to take germany quickly, so i attacked Karelia instead and lost all but a bomber and five infantry of the german army.

      Actualy, I moved 15 Inf on Kar and left 1 Inf on Cau.
      So basicaly, it’s impossible for Germany to lauch an invasion on Moscow or… blitzing through Cau. ;)

      No. You have to declare all the attacks in the combat movement phase.
      Since Karelia is ennemy occupied at that time, you can’t declare a blitz through it. After the combat resolves in Karelia (and everywhere else), you can’t declare a new attack. At that point you’re in the non-combat phase.
