    • RE: Buying units - bait and switch

      @Kreuzfeld:

      @human:

      Hello, I’ve read some threads mentioning that you do not need to show opponents the units you’ve bought and even suggested switching the stash completely. Do they mean placing the units near you before your turn and then switching when it becomes your turn? Or are they suggesting switching them when it’s time to place them at the end of your turn?

      I just can’t see the first fooling anyone, depending the outcome of the current action anything can change. The second seems (to be according to my reading of the rules) completely against the rules . . . Am I missing something?

      US buys units at the beginning of the US turn. the US player might choose to make the untis ready while the japanese player does his turn, but US does not actually buy them before the beginning of the US turn. If you really want to make buying as fast as possible, you can use pen and paper to plan your buy, and place one of each unittype ready in front of you together with a stack of chips.  Then, purchasing what you have written down once your turn starts.

      I think what they are talking about is to make the US purchase ready before the japanese turn in order to try to trick the japanese player. if US makes a Atlantic purchase ready on US3, and then switch to buying 3 of 4 CVs once it is the US turn, you can see how the japanese player might think he can build a mIC instead for a couple of extra subs. If japan does that, you have “tricked” japan. However, the player playing japan should really know better than relying on what random pieces the US player have placed in front of it.

      this second part is what I meant. People seem to present this as some sort of great deception, that and pointing units a certain direction. I just wanted to be sure that you must indeed declare your buys at the beginning of your turn, which is how I play.

    • RE: Ditching Planes in the Sea

      ~~I hate to say this taamvan but newly purchased units are only placed after all non combat moves are done and no new planes or existing planes may land on a newly built aircraft carrier.

      Or am I not understanding what you are trying to say?~~

      EDIT - OOPS ! The above is so wrong. I’ve been playing with classic AA rules! Ignore that everyone and sorry taamvan.

      Thanks wittmann that is real helpful. This FAQ thread is really great.

      One other question for anyone and I think that would be it for today.

      Russia and pro-allies neutral countries when Russia is not at war.

      If Germany and Japan are delaying the attack against Russia, my understanding is that Russia may not go into a pro-ally neutral country (and of course this would apply to any other nation not at war yet). This is how I read the rule book, am I correct?

      I ask because during the last game I played I wanted to stage some Russians in northwest Persia to help the UK in Persia when they (the Russians) finally are pulled into the war. After I read the rules closely I read “They can be moved into (but not through) as a noncombat move by land units of a power that is at war.”

      Seems clear enough but I always like confirmation.

    • RE: Global 2nd edition Q+A ( AAG40.2)

      Hi everyone, a question about dutch territories and ANZAC. I know there’s a sticky but maybe I’m dense but it wasn’t clear to me.

      Question 1 - ANZAC can land on dutch territories and then claim their IPCs, but for their first landing on one of these territories does it need to be a land unit or is a plane sufficient? I assume a plane is ok because the dutch territories are “friendly”.

      Question 2 - if Japan is not at war with anyone yet (but China of course) can they invade Dutch territories that are not yet claimed by ANZAC? or is this an unprovoked declaration of war on ANZAC-UK?

      Sub-question 2 - I’m 99% sure that if ANZAC has landed on a Dutch territory but is not yet at war with Japan and ANZAC leaves the dutch territory unprotected and Japan lands on the now “ANZAC” territory this is an unprovoked declaration of war. Am I correct?

    • RE: Ambilzi & Grasshopper's 1940 Global Map (Video Added)

      @XxNeilxX:

      Hey Guys,

      If you’re looking for a good place to get these maps printed, I would suggest BannerBuzz.ca.
      I got one of IL’s maps done by them on a 3’ x 6’ vinyl sheet for $52.49 all in.
      Quality was good and I got the map in less than a week (Shipped to Canada). From what I can tell the banners are made in India.
      From their website it looks like they serve the U.S, Canada, UK, & Australia.

      anyone else go this route with decent results?
