      You people seem to forget there is a war of sorts going on, but we all have short term memories.

      During World War I and II, some people had to be arrested in ways that could of been “unconstitutional.” People still arrested, Saudis to Israelis, might have connections with 9-11 and are still needed for detainment.

      I happen to agree with Bush on this one. Certain measures have to be taken to take out terrorist cells. Spy on me, what will they find? I don’t even download porn on my harddrive :) It is not like people are going to tear up peoples houses for their marijuana. They are just reporting suspicious activities.

      Now the REAL dictator was FDR. Luckily he died before he was in there too long.

      @TG:

      [Points to self] Here is rightist American voting for International Court. :P

      i voted against. It is insane…for one, France doesn’t like killing American murderers, so why would a international (not european) court want to put people to death…and then there is the whole American soldier and diplomat issues. Stop breaking our balls and put an immunioty for NATO members.

      “But I also think the officer’s conduct was inappropriate (the young male had was handcuffed when his face was slammed), though was probably not a “hate crime.” [still under investigation] "

      not this again. One, there were two black cops there. This was not a hate crime against black people, like the media would wants us to think. I believe that the white cop who punched the guy was an asshole (cops assholes? thats unpossible.) It seems like his buddies were behind him, so maybe the guy getting arrested nabbed the cop’s nuts. Most probably he thought he would get away with it.

    • RE: Addition to "Happy Birthday America" Thread

      "The hockey game was not brought up by me, and i can’t recall that i referred to it directly. "

      You replied to me talking of it by saying Americans manage to do the same thing as canada would while provoking more ill feelings…because “all americans are arrogant.” How about Germans then? you guys had 62 different anti-aircraft rocket programs in world war 2! You can generalize a race a people quite like that, but i must say America is more heavily scrutinized.

      "My remark on your national haoliday was meant as a response to the “G8 - do we care?”-thread: Showing (a) ignorance about the G8 in not knowing what it is and (b) not caring about the world (as G8 is meant to be a summit of the 8 “most powerful” nations) is the kind of american “arrogance” that i dislike and disrespect. Even if you are not interested in what happens outside your town/city, there are a handful of things that IMHO everyone who has the possibility to know should know. "

      Why should I care about the G8 summit if I am too busy checking out what is going on in the Middle East? You don’t care then! It isn’t arrogance, it is at times you don’t have the time to hear about certain things. I work 8 hours a day, and I’m lucky to check out my arabnews.com and other middle eastern websites! Is that arrogance? I heard of G8, i’m sure a lot of Americans did…does that mean we no exactly what happened during it? That isn’t arrogance, it is you too heavily scrutinizing Americans. Do you believe every friggin’ German knows are cares about the G8. Hell no.

      "And in your original posting that i first responded to in this thread you had “Europeans proke bad feelings more so”, which for me is a “Europeans are worse”. "

      Europeans aren’t worse, but IMO it is almost “socially acceptable” for them to scrutinize america more so because of the huge double standard that exists.

      “Which is second hand information, the kind what i call prejudice.”

      How about talking to you, other Germans, other Europeans for that matter? I call that first hand.

      "You get a picture, but you cannpt know for sure. "

      And you do…heh heh…

      "What you see in the news mainly is the position of the government and not the ppl. It is a picture, a start, but you can’t tell for sure! "

      Friggin independent news media source? How about any European newspaper online. Are they all state controlled? Even the BBC is controlled very little by the British government (even during World War II.) How can you get a clear picture of America? By talking to Americans, by seeing our media…that is about the best you can do without having a baseless prejudice.

      “If i judged the american ppl only after their government … well, better not”

      Your government isn’t corrupt? Ha!

      "Do you know when german reunification day is? "

      October 3. Bastille day is ten days after “the 4th of july” (what a hard one) and why does this really even matter?

      When the hell is Flag Day in America? If you don’t know, you are arrogant and don’t respect world culture! That’s a load of crap and you know it.

    • RE: Communsim is not good

      @yourbuttocks:

      Don’t get me wrong Moses, I think a better world can be built with socialistic ideas involved. However, the only society I can imagine which could support full Communism is a society which would not need it.

      If I at all believed that COmmunism was feasible Moses, I would be waving the hammer and sickle right beside you. However, I am a pragmatic idealist, and I know that it could not work.

      exactly.

      “Communism does not require a perfect world but a unified one. If People can be perfect, but if they’re not willing cooperate, then what’s the use of communism?”

      People can cooperate and be nice and work together WITHOUT COMMUNISM. PEOPLE CHOOSE NOT TO, NOT BECAUSE OF CAPITALISM, BUT BECAUSE THEY CARE MORE ABOUT THEMSELVES.

      @cystic:

      @HortenFlyingWing:

      “What has more government centralization brought to the United States? Less than 2 percent of Americans are farmers, yet the Department of Agriculture adds still more bureaucrats. Before 1950, the government largely stayed out of the housing business. Now we have housing projects in all of our major cities, and the government, an absentee landlord, couldn’t care less. The private sector can build housing more cheaply, with an incentive to maintain the property and screen tenants. During the 1980s, the “decade of greed,” charitable contributions by corporations and private citizens increased by at least 30 percent. Why? People had more disposable income, paid fewer taxes, and therefore gave more away. Americans are among the most generous people on Earth. But people want their money to go to people and organizations that they choose and trust.”

      America went trillions in debt in the 80s, and social spending and beauracracy went UP! Regan was the biggest damn liberal of them all, but he cut taxes with money that didn’t exist. Regan won us the cold war by possibly pushing the USSR over the edge (though they were going that way to begin with), but he increased social spending and with it the middle class’s share of wealth (but not wealth itself) declined.

      weird how Canadians follow Americans. This sounds just like Mulrooney in the 80’s ('cept for that whole “winning the cold war” bit. I think everyone ultimately “won” the cold war.

      huh???

      "Hopefully, capitalism hasn’t degenerated the people that far. "

      You don’t get it moses, it isn’t capitalism that “degenerated” people, it is unrelated greed.

    • RE: Addition to "Happy Birthday America" Thread

      "Hmmm……
      i am not sure wether i claimed that the US is “better” in provoking these bad feelings than europe (maybe i did, then i apologize, but it should have become clear in my later postings that i shifted to “very good”, which is an absolute and not a relative value). "

      Well it is obvious what you blatantly say and or allude to!

      “Still, you feel attacked by that, and respond by “you are worse” or “we don’t provoke bad feelings”.”"

      Well we do, but IMO Europeans feel more in the position that it is ok for them to do so. Even how you said if America won a hockey game, them saying the same thing as a Canadian would manage to provoke more bad feelings. We can’t openly flaunt and be proud without criticism (look at your remarks about my nation’s birthday. Would i gvie you the same crap for re-unification day?) I’m not saying Europeans are worse people, but it is my honest opinion they feel obligated to heavily scrutinize America, more so than what is done to themselves/

      " For the second: how can you tell? Just as i can’t tell wether we (europeans) do that to americans, you can’t tell vice versa. "

      How people act and say things to one another…watching and reading foreign news…it gives you a good picture.

      "And i didn’t compare that much, claiming “we are better” or “you are worse”. I said not much more than “watch out, this is not a good thing to do”. "

      Why should you care about my nations birthday? Why should you care to write that? No one is better than one another because of geography, but this strays of the point about the double standard against the US.

      “Still (and this is the thing that i don’t like), the reaction was not “ok, i will have a look” with maybe the addition “yes/no, you are right/wrong. But look at yourself, you have the same problem”. No, the reaction was” NO NO NO NO NO… YOU ARE WORSE!!! … YOU TREAT ME BAD!!! I AM THE WORLDS GREATEST, TREAT ME WELL""

      Did i say “the worlds greatest”? NO, you added that…with your hatred damn it!

      "… (well, more or less like that. Or at least, that is the way how i read it, which then is in the responsibility of the writer (it’s not important what you wanted to say, but what the other one understands!!)) "

      I hope you have a wonderful reunification day…

      “I hope that clears up my position on that topic.”

      Yeah, that did a lot…

      Yes, i wonder how real gulf war syndrome really is.

      Who had more bombers, Hitler or the allies…would it benefit him to use those weapons? The threat remained to the end, even when moron eisenhower slowed our forces even more, because fear of the “National Redoubt.” My grandfather would tell my dad stories how his tank and all the others were well supplied and ready to go, b ut stalled so the Russians can advance more. What a load.

      Yes be wary of those GNP and GDP statistics (especially you yanny!) Find out how recent they are. Yanny was using a statistic from a website giving America a statistic from 1990, so it would look on average poorer than other nations.

      “, Kyoto”

      You bring this up? I love the environment, but Romania was the only country to sign it, because they didn’t have an economy that would be decimated by it.n American business would move to mexico and canada (even more so) or manufacturing would just go to china. The aims of Kyoto were unrealistc, and should of never been pursued. Yet the liberal media made it llok like Bush was insulting Europe by not “signing it.” Congress has to do that! Now Daschle and his liberal moron buddies are blaming Bush’s “tax-cut” for the defecit. It hasn’t even really went into effect! Blame Clinton for sigining bills that already blew 1.2 trillion of our supposed surplus before bush even went to office. Yet the media won’t tell you that. They will make the energy crisis in california look like Bush’s fault, and the failing dot-com economy Bush’s fault (whit started well into Clinton’s administration. Aside from the conservative fox news, which at least admits when they use opinions they are in editorials or fan mail (one of mine made it!!!), all other stations I have watched are slanted to the left.

      Be wary because the truth is very hard to find.
