    • RE: Are the minis dead?

I just love the mini’s game, playing, collecting, it’s right up my alley.  So much of this game appeals to me as far as play time, no painting and assembling, simplicity.  I’m not super historic as far as what pieces actually fought against each other so it’s fun to play against whatever you want and no tape measures! This past Thanksgiving, three of us battled using only Axis nations!

There is nothing more fun then opening up a case of boosters and seeing what you get as well.

Azrael, have you still not never opened a booster?

Yea, looks like no more sets will be released but the game is still being played by quite a few folks. Not a lot of people on this forum seem too interested but there are other forums devoted just to the miniature game.

The jets are really sweet. I’d love to use them for Fortress America but the colors don’t all match and I’m not a painter.

Great news Garg!  It was my pleasure to help the cause and the satisfaction of seeing Mr. Bear enjoying his life makes it all worth it.

Plus, that picture of all of us is hilarious!  makes me laugh everytime :-D :-D :-D

    • RE: Hall of Shame - tales of the worst dice ever

Does this thread include the mini’s too :-D

I’ve had a couple aircraft carriers sunk by subs.  In the mini game, it takes anywhere from 4-7 hits to sink a CV.  When a sub rolls a 6, that’s two hits against the hull damage.  Once a ships hull damage is reached, she is destroyed.  One memorable event was when my buddy used IJN’s I-19 and I-26, he got to roll 4 dice and got double box cars! That’s 8 hits and enough to snap my USS Hornet in two.

Yea it’s funny PW, I got this set when I bought some other AA games in a lot and wasn’t sure what this was.  I don’t think these pieces came in sandwich bags but that’s how I got em.

Wings in the east is still bizarre.  We’ll miss beating up on the central six times each per year.

    • RE: Looking for recommendations for non-fiction ww2 books

Check out these two books by Adam Makos; “A Higher Call” and “Voices of the
Pacific.”  Two really good read I read this Summer.

Another good book is by Louis Zamparini called “Devil at my Heels” about a B-24 pilot shot down over the Pacific and drifts at sea for months until he is picked up by the Japanese and place in multiple prison camps.  Before the war, he was an Olympic sprinter that meets Adolf Hitler during the 1936 Berlin games. Angelina Jolie is producing the upcoming movie named “Unbroken.”

The book gets pretty churchy in the end but I guess put in his position, you do what ever you can to get through

    • RE: Fortress America Question

That’s true.  The supply lines also make it difficult for the invader but challanging non the less.  Linkon, you played a rough game if you went into turns 7 and 8, the game is supposed to end after the 6th turn. :-D

    • Looking to trade some AA board games for AA mini's

I have a copy of each:

      Europe 1999
      2004 Revised

All games are complete. The Europe box has a split corner but the rest of the games are in fine shape.

I’m always looking for AA mini’s so if you board gamers gave the mini game a shot but didn’t like it and need some more board game pieces, let me know and maybe we can come together on a deal.

    • RE: Amerika: by HBG

Being a big Fortress America fan, I’m really looking forward to this game.  The new scuplts alone is enough for me to buy the game.  This will be HBG’s first venture into boxed games as well, so this should lead to even more exciting games from HBG in the future.

    • RE: Getting started with A&A miniatures - what to buy?

      I recommend the mini’s game, very collectable and lots of fun.  Time of the games are about 1-3 hours depending on how large your game is.  They made 6 sets;

      Base Set
      Task Force
      Flank Speed
      Condition Zebra
      Fleet Command
      Surface Action

The first two sets are sold out and pretty pricy but you’ll see some great ships in those.  Fleet Command is almost gone as well but I would say you should get a Revised Starter set and a few Surface Action booster packs.  Flank and Zebra are still readily available as well but Surface has lots of US pieces and some nice Japanese vessels as well.

12-7 games, Cool Stuff and Minature Market carry boosters as well as singles.  You’ll have to check out the singles market and pick a few pieces you like as well.

      Enjoy!

We had the same question when we played.  We agreed that this was a new rule for helicopters in the new version.  I haven’t played 1986 FA in about 10 years but I don’t remember taking city’s with helos.
