Actually, I meant North San Francisco Bay Area, Where people would rather waste there day riding a bike or jogging or surfing or doing something stupid like that. Unfortunatly, there are just a handful of us here, including this websites founder.

RE: Naval miniature fever!!!posted in War at Sea
Yea, there are 3 good stores in my area, 2 of them at least carry the mini’s but like I said earlier, I bought them out and hopefully they restock. I have called stores in other areas and most do not carry the mini’s.
I’m sure you’ve probably done this but your info in the “Find Players” forum and see if anyone responds. I have been playing with my same friend now for 24 years and now his 9 year old plays a pretty mean game; always crushing us with his Italian pieces.
Ebay has every and all AA products. I’d much rather support my local guys but I’ll be damned if your gonna see me dress up like wizard or a warlock and play those nutty games.

Naval miniature fever!!!posted in War at Sea
Wholly crap!!! I’ve got it bad. I played my first mini game last Sunday and got hooked instantly. I’ve purchased all boosters in the North Bay area and can’t stop checking eBay. I hate myself for not paying attention to these little miniature gems earlier when they came out. A fad that wouldn’t last long was my original thought when they were released and that the board games were the only game to play…damn!
Just when my wife thought my AA board game collection was complete, haha. Hopefully she will understand. 82 ships and counting!!!

RE: Just How Old Are We Axis and Allies Players?posted in Axis & Allies Anniversary Edition
Cool. I played my first game in 1987 when I was 14 with some friends, then I met my best friend “Death from above” in 1988 and found out he and his dad were big AA fans.
We played a lot and I introduced them to "Fortress America in 1989/90 so we played that quite a bit too. We played on and off in the 90’s.
In 2000, I saw AA Europe for sale at a game store and just picked it up and thought it would be cool. The three of us played together and that really rekindled our lust for AA, haha.
In 2001, a trip to Pearl Harbor, along with the first pacific release really got us playing as much as we could. Wives and kids came along and we still get together and play. My friends 9 year old has become quite a player. Our new favorite is the navel miniatures. Whether it be Guadalcanal or bulge, our best days are spent at the kitchen table.

Cool man, “Death from above” and I will be there to cheer you on. Let me know if you end up walking over to the OAM for the Aces symposium in 2 weeks.

RE: New Fortress America Packagingposted in Other Games
I haven’t played it yet. My friend and his son ended up playing Europe 1999 instead. Hopefully, we can play soon. The pieces really are cool and the quality of the cards, markers, and game board are outstanding.
I noticed none of my local game shops are stocking this game regularly and they both special ordered it for me…not sure why they won’t be carrying it.
If i get a chance to play it soon, I will give more info but it lookes like it plays exactly like the 1986 version, even the sectors on the new game mirror the old board. The only difference is that Buffalo and Kansas City are gone and Las Vegas and Colorodo Springs have been added. Invaders have a set of balancing factor cards as well.
Today, I played the naval, tank, and Angels 20 miniatures for the first time and really enjoyed all 3 of them, but Fortress America is going to be up very soon.

RE: San Francisco Bay Area Playersposted in Player Locator
Not sure if this is the right forum to announce this but we are probably the only ones that would attend. The Oakland Aviation Museum is having a WWII pilots symposium on Saturday, July 7th from 5pm to 9pm. Tickets are $35. Check there website for details. I just ordered mine today, maybe I’ll see you guys there.

RE: Fortress Americaposted in Other Games
Reading through the rules, it plays the exact same except for a few changes and balancing factors.
First, the helicopters have a “scouting” move that allows them to fly over enemy occupied territory and land in an adjacent territory during the first movement stage.
Next, the bombers are allowed to move there first 4 spaces for “bombing” runs that allows them, like helicopters, land in adjacent friendly territories.
Also, there are invader cards that allow them to retrieve destroyed units and bring them back into play as well as dice and movement changes.
Mobile units can transport a troop or partisan the one space they could never go on first movement as well.
finally, the invaders have an opportunity to capture Seattle, San Antonio, and Atlanta and turn them into invasion zones allowing new units to be placed directly into those cities!
I love AA to the fullest but I was the one always talking my buddies into playing fortress as a nice alternative. With this new version, It will be like 1986 all over again….sorry Bill Buckner.

New Fortress America Packagingposted in Other Games
Just opened the new Fortress America game and the presentation is pretty cool. Everything, including the game board comes in its own zip lock bag. There is some assembly with the helicopters and the lasers but its easy stuff. There is some wasted space in the box from cardboard inserts and there is no place to store the country markers once they are punched.
I’am looking forward to giving the game a go tomorrow, my first impression of the game so far appearence wise is very positive.

RE: The true story of "Saddam Hussien" on the cover of Fortress Americaposted in Other Games
Haha, I love the sunglasses they put on dude in the later release. in 1986, I think our biggest pain was Muamar Kaddafi, but then again, they didnt have a Libyan invader in the game. Ask Marty Mcfly, He would probably call them the “North African Resistance”, if he was allowed to be a game tester.
Still no word on the re-release…soonsoonsoon!!!

The true story of "Saddam Hussien" on the cover of Fortress Americaposted in Other Games
Ok, I can’t remember where I heard this story but that is NOT Saddam on the fortress boxtop. That guy was actually like a janitor that worked at Milton Bradley! The folks down there needed a likeness of someone hispanic to represent the southern invaders…Dude just happened to look like Hussien…How USA is that?
As for the new fortress, It looks like they grabbed Michael Biehn From “The Rock” to be on this cover. Maybe he works in the cafeteria down at Fantasy Flight, either way, can’t wait for the release, whenever that is…I heard Memorial Day.

RE: Worst WW II film ever.posted in General Discussion
I really tried to watch “Hart’s War” a couple times…but I kept falling asleep…I wanted it to be better.
Best WW2 movie ever made not named “Saving Private Ryan” has to be “Downfall.”

New Fortress Americaposted in Other Games
Hey, any new news on the re-release of Fortress America? I see it’s being released in March. Most of my AA buddies don’t like this game but there is something so cool about “farming machinery converted into hovertanks in Minneapolis”
Thanks. -
RE: Battle of the Bulge resultsposted in Axis & Allies: Battle of the Bulge
Yea, we are going to play this and Guadalcanal again soon. I was explaining to my buddy that’s this game is not about body count. You said it best frimmel, “The object is to not destroy the enemy, you just want to make him go somewhere else.”
And now I must show my 5 year old son all of these face icons… :-D :-)
