    • RE: India crush, how to stop

      @calvinhobbesliker:

If UK blocks Malaya SZ w/ a Destroyer, the SZ36 Fleet can’t get to India on the 2nd turn. You can’t use the ships in a sea combat and then an amphib in different SZ’s.

You could bomb the destroyer/cruiser with tacticals first, and then bomb India with strategic bombers and THEN attack India with an amphibious assault, could you not? I somehow doubt it, but could you?

    • RE: India crush, how to stop

I know this is the forum for how to STOP the India crush, but I came up with a strategy for crushing India, and since I’m a beginner, I’m very excited about it. If this is old news, I’m sorry, but it’s new to me!

      J1:
      -Buy 3 transports in Japan
-Bomb the crap outta all the Chinese units you can, take Yunnan, Hunan, Anhwe and Chahar. All strategic bombers MUST end in Kwangsi.
-Move your fleet from SZ6 and SZ19 to SZ36, bringing a tank, two infantry and an artillery on the transports. Leave the SZ6 (not SZ19) destroyers behind.
-DO NOT DECLARE ON THE ALLIES… yet.

      Allied1:
-They will probably see the giant stack coming, so most ANZAC and US units will most likely move towards India. UK units will start moving out, and they will take all the Dutch islands.
      -Yunnan will be retaken.

      J2:
-Buy a naval base and an air base in Kwangsi. Move the navy you have in SZ36 to take India (after taking care of the navy that will probably be in Malaysia), and attack with your strategic bombers in Kwangsi too.
-Take the Philippines with the Caroline Islands navy, and take out the battleship/transports in the East Indies with it too.
      -Keep taking China, including Yunnan.
-Defend SE Asia with fighters and tacticals.
-Move your 3 transports (loaded with 5 infantry and 1 artillery) and 2 destroyers to SZ36.
-Defend Japan with fighters and a couple infantry, should the US attack.
-If you feel confident, take Shan State (may work, will weaken UK).
-Build a defending navy in Japan.

      Allied2:
-Yunnan and India will be retaken.
-SE Asia MAY fall to the Allies.
-Japan MAY fall to the US.
-UK MAY build an IC in Malaysia.

      J3:
-With your SZ36 transports either: retake Japan, or retake India. Retake Japan if it was taken, retake India if Japan wasn’t taken. If your going to take India, and an IC was built in Malaysia, take Malaysia on the way over with a couple infantry. Bombing is ESSENTIAL here.
      -Keep taking China. Take Yunnan.
-With your SZ36 destroyers, move to defend your Pacific Islands.

      Allied3:
-Be wary of ANZAC raiding parties at this point, as they will have had a chance to get into the Indies. Much of the Japanese Pacific is at risk. Your SZ36 destroyers will have to defend the Caroline Islands and the Philippines.
-The US will be weakened from their attempt to take Japan. Even if they did take it, you will most likely have retaken it. If not, you lose.

      J4-J5:
-Take the rest of SE Asia, finish off the Chinese (or try) and take the Dutch Islands (+Borneo) with your transports and any units you can get onto them.
-Now you can either head for Honolulu or Sydney, and you’re making so many IPCs your opponent might as well surrender.

The point of this strategy is to cut the UK off of production, and thus roughly 40 of their IPCs will go down the drain, possibly more, I didn’t do the math. They will only be able to build 16 IPCs worth of stuff on their first turn, and every other turn will be building up money until Japan wipes them out. It’s a little risky (due to leaving Japan fairly weak), but it might make for a fun change from the usual J1 India crush. However, I’m betting that either there is a giant flaw in this plan AND/OR it doesn’t adhere to all the rules. Either way, I would love to hear what you think of it.  :-)

Again, sorry for going off-topic… but better than making a thread that would just clutter this forum up, right…? Riiiiight…?

    • RE: Tips for a Beginner?

Thanks a lot Van Trump and dinosaur! I’ll definitely crush the Allies next time now!

As for how the game went, I eliminated all that remained of the ANZAC and UK navies and took the East Indies (ANZAC and UK NO islands), but Chinese infantry were starting to batter away at my forces on the mainland, and eventually I was cornered in Hong Kong, everything else (save for Korea), was Chinese. I managed to fend off a massive fleet of bombers, fighters, battleships and cruisers in the Philippines, but soon after, that was taken from me too. The East Indies were gone once the ANZAC and UK could build up a fleet again, and Japan fought for a couple turns after everything else was American, Australian, British or Chinese, but it too fell to the Allies.

I got myself far too deep into the hole of death, and I could not get out again.

However, I learned my lesson. Japan CANNOT declare war and not act quickly and decisively, they will soon simply be overtaken by the US “wartime economy”, as the Rulebook puts it. Also, Japan CANNOT let China live, or they will die. China, if it is saved by the stupidity of a Japanese player, will spread like the bubonic plague until all of it’s homeland once again belongs to it. That said, learned and lived, I hope to crush the Allies next time we come to cross swords (or little plastic people and machines, whatever the case may be). May the rising sun burn forever!

    • RE: Clarification on Turn Sequence

      @gamerman01:

No problem, hew, those are easy ones.

Collect income is at the end of the turn, so you do get income for territories you just took.  That’s why it’s #6.  You don’t collect income at the beginning of your next turn.

You repair units in phase #1 and you can move the newly repaired units like normal, that same turn.  There is no delay.  It is not the same as purchasing units (you place purchased units in #5, after all movement has taken place).

Japan would get 59.  She gets 1 for the island and 5 for the NO.

Thanks so much gamerman! If I can convince my brothers to implement these into the game we’re going to finish off tomorrow (hopefully), it might just make me… or break me. But, I’m willing to take the risk!

    • Clarification on Turn Sequence

I am sorry for making YET ANOTHER new thread, but there isn’t a Q&A thread on which I could post simple questions such as this one.

In the rulebook, it says the turn sequence goes as follows:

      1. Purchase and Repair Units
      2. Combat Move
      3. Conduct Combat
      4. Noncombat Move
      5. Mobilize New Units
      6. Collect Income

The sixth and final phase, collect income, unlike the rest, is not expanded upon. If it is, I apologize, I completely missed it. So, I have a few questions.

When exactly do you collect IPCs? The end of your turn, or the beginning of your next turn?

What territories do you collect IPCs for? For example, let’s say Japan just took Hawaii. Just before this, they were making 53 IPCs per turn. However, Hawaii adds 1 IPC for the territory and another 5 for the NO. So, at the end of the turn (or beginning of the next turn), would Japan collect 53 IPCs, 54 IPCs or 59 IPCs?

Also, though unrelated, can newly repaired units move on the turn they are repaired, or are they immobile like newly bought ones?

Thanks in advance to whoever is kind enough to answer my noobish queries! :-D

    • RE: Tips for a Beginner?

      @fanofbond:

You don’t really need the ICs on the islands any ways. Build one on the mainland in a very good location and watch your fleet don’t make stupid moves that allow easy targets for the allies. Kill the uk fleet quick. There are some good basic tips

      Thanks fanofband!

Anybody else got some tips? Or, preferably, what I should spend my IPCs on? And an update to how the game goes is coming Sunday night or Monday morning, and if I win I’ll be very surprised.

    • Tips for a Beginner?

I got AAP40 in January, and ever since I have been addicted. Unfortunately, since most people I know aren’t as addicted as I, only every couple of weeks do I play a complete game (sometimes less!). This means everyone I play with and I are all beginners, and will be for a while. This game is just too complex to take in, even in 6 games, which is all I’ve played.

As I read these forums, I realize that we (me and my friends) are getting very different results than all of you. Let me compare.

      Forums:
      Japan: 999,999,999 victories
      Allies: 1 victory

      Me and my Friends:
      Japan: 0 victory
      Allies: 6 victories

I, as Japan, almost won once, but that required leaving almost all my territories undefended and going all out to attack. After getting Calcutta, Manila and Hong Kong, Sydney was my next target, and in one turn it would have been mine. But a rather weakly defended Japan meant the US could bomb the hell out of it and a small ANZAC fleet could take it over.

I am Japan again, and the situation isn’t too bright. It’s the beginning of Japan’s turn (I think it’s about the 5th), with 58 IPCs, making 53 IPCs. China and India are BOTH alive, and the UK has a massive tank army and China has a massive infantry army, and both are ready to destroy me. Luckily, India has NO air force and only a destroyer in Malayan waters, but I only have 3 fighters in French Indochina, a couple cruisers (one in Japan and one off of Kwangtung) and an empty aircraft carrier (in the Philippines). The ANZAC has 3 undefended transports, a fighter and a ton of tanks/infantry. America is amassing a giant fleet to push me out of Hawaii (defended by a tank and a fighter). I’m losing the fight on the mainland, and I’m about to lose the fight for the eastern pacific.

I know what I’m going to do with the units I already have. I’m going to take out those transports with my aircraft carrier and a fighter, and withdraw from Indochina to defend Kwangsi with a couple tanks. I have a MiIC in Kiangsi and another one in the Philippines (NOTE: we play with the ability to build MiICs on the Philippines, the NO islands for the UK, both sides of New Guinea and New Zealand too). What I want to ask you is basic tips for Japan (I don’t want to know the secrets to the India crush, that would be unfair), as well as what I should spend my IPCs on this turn, and anything else you find necessary or helpful. If you need any more info on my game, please ask.

Thanks SO MUCH in advance! And don’t say I’m a newb for failing to take both China and India… I already know that.  :-D

    • RE: Your Favourite Nation

      @Bube:

I like china because if the Japan player makes a mistake or two they spread like a bad rash.

That is true, surviving as China is one of the most fun things in the game, as you, with the Allies help, can easily push Japan off the mainland. Only problem is the lack of navy/air force, but still, the challenge is fun.

    • RE: Your Favourite Nation

So far America is in the lead. Would anyone who voted for the US care to explain why? I’m somewhat interested, as the US are far from all the action in Asia, and, though they are powerful, they seem kinda boring. I even prefer playing as UK/China combined, which is actually quite fun, just so long as you aren’t up against a expert player who can crush you in just a few turns.

    • Your Favourite Nation

So, which one? Japan, US, UK, ANZAC, or even China?

And please don’t pick a nation just because it’s the most powerful, but rather, which one is the most fun.

Personally I think Japan is the most fun, due to the fact that you have to defend against enemies coming from 3 directions at all times. Juggling all this usually means I lose, but I have a lot of fun in the meantime.

Oh, and I am a first time poster!
