    • RE: U.K. Fleet carrier

      @LHoffman:

      Vote 1: Ark Royal
      Vote 2 : Indomitable

      Ark Royal is (in my opinion) to the British as the Yorktowns are to the Americans: good design, hardy, fleet duty, veterans of famous engagements. If any carrier would be essential for the British, it would have to be Ark Royal. Followed closely by Illustrious.

      Malta is a great choice, if logical, since it is analogous to the Midway-class.

      So will the Brits get 3 carrier types, like the other nations? Light/Escort - Fleet/Standard - Heavy/Advanced … Though I think the Americans currently have 4 carrier sculpts on the docket.

      Light       Furious     = Casablanca
      Fleet       Ark Royal  = Yorktown
      Fleet       Illustrious = Essex
      Heavy      Malta      = Midway

      I would actually like to see an HBG version of Illustrious, but if that should be reserved for a basic OOB replacement set, to come at a later date, then that is great.

      Since HBG offers a CVE for the UK color (Casablanca) we will do the Ark Royal and Malta for the 2 other class carriers. We will come back and do other carriers at a later date. Thanks for all the input.

      @LHoffman:

      @knp7765:

      I still have some good ideas for things like self propelled artillery and tank destroyers. Someone had the idea for tank destroyers if they roll a 1, they can pick enemy armor as casualties. That seems like a good idea. Do you think that would work for dive and/or torpedo bombers too?

      That is an interesting option too, especially with dive/torpedo bombers. They would be too powerful if they were allowed to target all hits, but if they roll a 1 they should be able to target their hits. Makes them more valuable and more historically accurate.

      After all, in the Battle of Midway, USN aircraft sank all 4 Japanese fleet carriers with targeted attacks from torpedo and dive bombers. We should be able to do that in A&A too. I’d rather be able to assign hits with ones than hit on a 4… otherwise you just waste a bunch of planes to sink subs, destroyers and cruisers and leave the enemy carriers untouched.

      I suppose we are getting into house rule territory here though.

      You will see a luck shot in “Amerika” where you can target certain units. There will be a phase where aircraft must fight first after AA is rolled before other items happen. I think you should be able to target ships but defending aircraft must be able to shoot first!

    • U.K. Fleet carrier

      Need your vote, the Malta will be in the Expansion set for a heavy Carrier, what carriers would you want in the U.K. Set?
      Illustrious is the Out of Box Carrier in most AAA games for UK

      You have 2 votes!!!

      Looks like we need to get busy on the Ark Royal!!!

      What about the color white for painters?

      That would probably be acceptable. White might actually be the best for painting. I still really like the ivory or off-green, but like I said, ultimately, it will not matter because they will be painted.

      White would be very good as a universal option. Don’t do it just for me though. I want this to be something that is either painless to implement or of great demand.

      It is no doubt that the lighter colors are easier to prime and paint. I would think that the Rose or yellow color in the Japanese set would work best for painting, is this not a good choice?

      @LHoffman:

      I asked a question a while back about the methods for designing/producing the pieces which Variable answered very well. But while looking at the preview pictures for the Japanese Supplemental Set I got to wondering again:

      What would be the possibility of adding a very neutral, bland color option for every set? Such as the washed out olive in the Japanese pictures or a cream color like the halftrack and German previews.

      This option would be more for all us painters out there. I am sure most people will not choose a purely nondescript color. As I said before, ultimately it is not of great importance, especially if I am the only one asking for it. I did not know if the coloring process was easier and cheaper with the 3-D printing method, as opposed to the old injection style. I assume the prototypes in the pictures were produced with the printer? Because they look great if they were. For some reason, I always wished the pieces I got looked exactly like the prototypes in the pictures (color-wise).

      Give us 10-14 Days to show you the current sets that are being worked on as well as Games that are also in line to be made. We all are very busy trying to gear up for Gencon and finish up Amerika as well as several other games, maps, sculpts, sets, ideas, etc. We appreciate all the excitement in the sets and pieces and HBG has spent much money and time to hopefully bring us up to the next level.

      For the ones who attend Gencon, you will be able to see a sneak Peek at some other games and sculpts we are working on.

      If it seems that we are all over the board is because we are, we are trying so many things and hope that our Customers jump on board.

      We will have the new games show up on BGG as well as our website and also show the sets in line to produce.

      Forgive my ignorance, but I am unfamiliar with this “Kick Starter”. I understand that it’s obviously a way to help fund the development of “Amerika”. Is it just another way of saying “Pre-order”?

      We made 3 sizes of factories that can be printed and painted.

      yes, I saw those and that’s the reason I asked  :wink:, the thing is, 3d-printer shops aren’t that etablished in Europe (or at least the parts I come from), that’s the reason I asked whether you plan on producing and selling them as pieces. Thanks for the answer, which I guess is a no.

      Would leave the question about the sculpts for the naval and airbaises? :roll:

      Not as of yet. We would like to do them, but not this year.

    • RE: HBG's Amerika Game ON KICKSTARTER NOW - FUNDED!

      @Variable:

      @toblerone77:

      1. Will the Allies have a comparable set of units? In other words will it be like; Germany and Japan have bombers, tanks, etc., will the Allies have the same type of units as well?

      The Allied list will be announced before the end of the week!

      @toblerone77:

      2. Is production of Amerika entirely dependent on Kickstarter for funding? Or is Kickstarter just to get the project on the shelf more rapidly?

      Since I try my best not to speak in absolutes… AS OF NOW, we must depend on the Kickstarter campaign to fund the game. The initial cost behind producing a boxed game is huge. That said, Coach seems determined to do what it takes to see this project through. We will of course need YOUR HELP to make it happen. Nothing will be produced in it’s final form until we know the Kickstarter is going through. However, all the 3D molds, maps, rules, etc will be done so we can show it off at GenCon etc.

      All the 3D Models will be completed, NOT the molds.

      “Coach” and/or the wonderful folks from HBG,

      @Spirou:

      I saw, that you guys have plans on shapeways for minor and major factories… look pretty sweet and those markers that came with 1940 really need replacement… are you also planning on producing and selling those “directly”?
      (and how about air and naval bases?)  :wink:

      ––Forgive me if I missed it,…but I didn’t find an answer. I’m also very interested in the Major and Minor Factories. And especially so about any Airbase and Naval base pieces your fine company might make. I realize that you can’t do everything at once,….and you have many projects in the works,…but IMHO some Airbase and Naval base pieces would be something EVERY A&A gamer could use in ANY game. Is there any projected future date to have these necesary pieces made? Please “Coach”, save us from the cardboard cr*p. Thanks for listening.
