    • RE: 2 Hit Battleships? Questions and new Ideas.

This is one “rule” that probably will vary player to player, but the group I used to play with did it like El Jefe described. I do think some variation of this rule should be used as I always hated playing with just one hit battleships…just seemed such a waste of IPC in the game, and in a more realistic enviroment of course they could sail home for repairs, just had to make it there.

I think you are right, the US fighters in this case just would not be part of the battle, but I have been known to be wrong…alot.

    • RE: Russian immunity

It works that way with the A&A PC game as well, but Bolter is correct the AI is just plain bad in the game. In fact I have said this before if you want any challenge out of the computer game double the opposing teams forces for more fun :D

I score a 124 on the Emode test, labeled me “Word Warrior”, so maybe all that binge drinking in college paid off somehow :D I decided to google around a bit and you can find most of that test posted in various web forums with all the answers….so I am not putting much weight into that test at all. Guess I am a just average after all, but no one beats me a Yatzee, I will always have that!

Yeah, AoE isn’t really turn based, at my current state of mind that just sort of slipped out, guess I was just too happy to see I turned into a regular finally on here :D Go Me!

Mr_Mischief - My god, someone out there remembers Conflict - Middle East, that game was bad arse! You could try the diplomatic route to make friends with everyone as you started as Israel, or you could just start waging war and building your nuke program. You could buy weapons from the Russians, French or the US, oh man that game was great.

What about Age of Empires, I have lost alot of sleep over that game carrying out of a few years. And not really what we are talking about here but it popped in my head and thought I would see how many people remember door games on BBS, in particuler Legand of the Red Dragon and VGA Planets…oh the days…

    • RE: A&A Computer Game

The only thing you can do to make playing the computer more of a challange is to double the amount of units their side has from the start. It won’t help the AI’s choice of battles or movement, but will sure make things more interesting rather then a 4 round knockout of the puter. As far as a game, I am sure one of us is always up for a game via email on here, just post a challange to the “Games” section and see who wants to take you on.

    • RE: Return to Castle Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory

Enemy Territory was an add on originally for RtCW, but now it is a free download for multiplayer online play. The maps are as follows:

      1. Oasis - The object is for the Allied team to blow up to large anti-tank guns in an abandoned desert city.

      2. Beachhead - The Allies must destroy a giant gun that protects shipping lanes.

      3. Goldrush - My personal favorite, the Allies must move a tank along a preset path and blow open the doors to a bank, then load 2 gold crates on a truck and move it to safety. Lot’s of death in this one, takes team work on both sides.

      4. Radar - The Allies are trying to steal 2 top secret radar parts from the Axis, this map is laid out pretty crappy actually, and it’s only saving grace is it forces teamwork and communication, without it the Axis are done for.

      5. Rail Gun - This one turns the tables and puts the Axis on offense as they have to move a tug online a rail way to load ammo on it, then move it all the way back, load that ammo on a rail gun and then fire the rail gun. The catch is the that tug will move in the direction of the party in it, so it plays out like tug of war. This one takes tons and tons of teamwork on either side to win.

      6. Fuel Dump - Although I usually rack up most of my xp on this map and beachhead, this one frustrates me. The allies have to move a tank across a bridge they have to build, through a cave and then to a fuel dump where they blast the front door open and a side entrance. I have played to where after constant airstrikes my axis squad kept the tank pinned down at the start the entire game. I have also played where the fuel dump was blown within 5 minutes of the start of the game. You have to be very alert in this map, and it offers alot of different tactics, a great map to learn all the new classes and weapons on.

This is a free download, try hitting gamespy.com for a link, I found it doing a google search. I am usually playing it as I have nothing better to do the next week as I am getting ready for my move to Virginia. I play as MrSweetRiver on there, [X4] clan so say howdy if you jump on, I would be glad to answer any questions.

Oh man, get the Enemy Territory game from Gamespy.com or something similar. It is only online play, and features 6 different maps. This game is like crack or something, just can’t stop playing it.

Just curious if anyone out there is as much of a junkie for this game as I am. I don’t play alot of first person shooters, but the WWII part drew me to this game when it came out, then this ET add on has me all in front of my computer day in and day out. Thoughts?

    • RE: Japan Strat?

Given the senario you described, Russia is completely done for after turn 5 or so. They would be all spread out on the backside and probably never recover. If Germany goes all out INF for the first 2-3 rounds then the Allies are at a serious disadvantage, but who knows with what you are describing. I love to play Japan, as it is the most fun country to play as you can be just as aggressive as you want and not lose the farm early on. Just as CC points out start up that INF train going 3 Transports strong…if you can put 6 INF on the mainland everyround plus a couple of ARM to spare with an IC mainland, you will have a nice wall of yellow coming at Russia. Stay away from the Pearl Harbor, as you can use those BB to go at India should UK put an IC down there. and once you really have a nice land army going start to throw in a few FTR’s and you are set my friend. I just love to see a game board with JP flags all over Africa, and my crowning jewel is to plop down a nice 1-2 transport worth of INF on Brazil late in the game, just as a I can, I will, and you can’t stop me. Love that feeling…

I’m too lazy to look, but I am pretty sure it says something about that in the book and Bossk is correct, you just lose all you have and you have to give up your entire supply of chocolate animal crackers too boot…those darn SBR’s and the chilling effects they have.

Arlington, VA, figure what a better place to work and try to scare up a game of Axis every now and again. Can’t help but think it wouldn’t be too hard what with maybe just a few military type minded people around me :D

    • RE: IPC Victory?

Yeah it depends with me based upon who I am playing against. If it is someone new the game then no, but someone more versed in a few of the finer points of A&A then yes. Same thing goes for a bid and RR rules, and the reason I bring up the RR rule is this: if a newbie is playing Russia and I want them to learn, then I don’t make that a rule, they pull some bonehead attack on turn one and then after the smoke clears I show the error in their attack. This tends to make for a bit better opponent come the second game and really being from Kansas I will take anything that comes my way.

P.S. I wish to put out the disclaimer that I do not want to see any Wizard of Oz jokes here nor do I wish to see anything about Dwight David Eisenhower. People it is hard enough waiting to move to civilization next month, I don’t need any more reasons to start burning things.

    • RE: Industrial Complex in India

I am with you 100% on this one as UK has better things to do then waste the IPC’s putting an IC there then trying to hold it. Their INF is better served moving toward Africa, and that fighter works nicely in Karelia. When playing UK I like doing the no money spent first round and rolling the dice hoping that the water is clear around me so that UK2 I can plop down a nice fat navy. Just my two cents.

    • RE: The First Move

The look of shock would be from the Allied player wondering how spread out Japan just became on J1. That tactic is fine and dandy against the AI from the cdrom game, but I fear you would spend so much time trying to fortify your position after such a sweeping move on J1 you might be putting yourself too far in the hole.

I am much more of a build transports and pass on the Pearl Harbor to protect this fleet of transports guy myself, nothing better then by J3 pumping out 6-8 INF to Manchuria, then building a IC and starting up your ARM building. Just seems to have better odds this way but I do get your point of the Shock and Awe, I am just not a player that would panic from that, I might even get a little more bold and try to take Manchuria from you on R2, causing you even more delay in building up a solid land force and forcing you to focus all effort on taking that back depending upon the way the dice rolled in that battle. Just my two cents anyway.

    • RE: New Axis & Allies computer game

I would be all for it as I believe I could have been the biggest Command & Conquer junkie out there back in the day. It will remove some of the stratagy from the game, and I would be interested to see what they do with the units as in I would assume instead of America having just P-51’s and B-29’s there would be different fighters to buy at various cost levels, that could be cool. I guess it will all depend on the vision of the group putting this out, can’t wait for the first beta copy :D

    • RE: Improved AI for original CD-ROM game?

You are correct this is no upgrade for the game. Hasbro gave up on even putting out new patchs a few years ago. The game is a great way for someone new to the game to learn, as even though the AI is horrid a newbie can see (hopefully) what it is doing wrong and give someone a basis to form some movement plans. Once you have got the hang of the game it is great for internet matchs if you don’t have anyone local to play with as long as you jump through the hoops of The Zone and the DirectX issues.
