    • RE: Which WWII fighter would you fly?

The Spitfire was nice, but the Hurricane was the plane that fought the majority of Battle of Britain. The Spitfire had a flaw with the canopy being sunk flush with teh back of teh plane, which lead to angle of attack advantages to the German’s, it was teh same issue with teh P-40, which lead to the bubble canopy’s of the later fighters rolled out like the P-51 and the later models of the Spitfire to correct that problem.

The Brits would have been wiped out if the German luftwaffe would have used more commen sense with the blitz on bombing Berlin. It was the decision to not increase fuel capacity on the Me109’s that lead to the bombers being easy targets for teh Hurricanes and Spitfires. Overall though the Spitfire was teh model for teh P-51, without looking it up didn’t we use the engine for it on the Mustang?

None of these men, all born in foreign countries and fought to create their own, wanted a government the size or scope of our current, tyrannical, oppressive government

I am just going to start and finish with good ole GW, he was born in Virginia…I have been to that house.

For someone who hates it here so much with our evil govt. and horrible laws I must ask…why have you not moved back to Russia?

That and we they stopped using Hellcats in the Pacific theater and switched to F4’s and P-38’s removed from strafing missions. They had one of the little rocket powered death missles there from the Japanese when they went full on Kamakazi…can you imagine strapping up in basically a warhead that had flight controls for you to fly right into a ship.

They had some cool facts about the WWI stuff…it was interesting that the guide pointed out that during WWI, the war was fought about 75% in France and they suffered huge casualites. So when WWII came around they were still a generation removed for men able to serve in the army, so they didn’t really have one…kinda puts in jeers against then being a push over in WWII in perspective.

I voted Zero as I was out at the Dulles Air and Space Museum yesterday and the tour guide had all these facts on performance and manuverability and it sounds like the Zero was the best in teh sky overall. But if I had my druthers I would pick the Me262, would have been fun to fly around in a jet back then.

BTW if any of your are air/space buffs, the Enterprise exhibit is completed and you can walk right up to it sitting there in the museum, pretty cool to look at. The SR-71 sitting in front of it just makes it look that much cooler.

I would be in…if only for the after hours at Crazy Horse Too ;) It’s been a few years since I played against anyone on a board, would end up going out like a light in the night but would be a total blast.

    • RE: The National Hockey League … how much do you care?

If they were to cancel a complete season of the NFL I would end my life…so to your hockey fans, my deepest condolences…what do you think this will do revenue wise to some of the teams that were on the bubble to begin with?

They were considering applying for statehood with the US, but that all ran amuck years ago…they are their own nation but we are done with the state aquiring business, unless Canada is up for sale :D

Well at least with all the departures it will be super tough for the Pat’s to make another run next year…and next year…it’s the year of the Chiefs.

No offense taken at all…back home in Kansas there is a team called the Wichita Thunder which I think is some form of minor league team for the San Jose Sharks. It’s just hard growing up in Kansas to get excited about hockey, but I was totally planning on going to come Caps games as it sounded like a good time, was just a mess where I lived prior getting in and out of DC, with me close to a metro stop now I can ride in to the MCI center and watch them play…if they ever play again. :(

The fans man…it gets so loud during a Raiders or Bronco’s game…some very happy thoughts of going to games, getting some brauts and screaming till you couldn’t talk at school the next day.

Sorry for hijacking the thread guys, it’s all yours again. Go Caps!

Lizard - I gained you were a Chiefs fan in other convo, didn’t realize you lived in MO. I grew up down I-70 in Salina, made the 2 1/2 drive to Arrowhead every home game there for quite a few years…in the mid 80’s Dad bought 4 season tickets for 100/seat per game…by the time Montana came and Pop’s gave up on the Chiefs, the tickets were running like 250/seat…it was sick. Those were upper level, like 5 rows up off the railing around the 40 yard line…excellant seats but nothing like the Gold Ring was, those were almost double if memory serves per seat and the only thing you were gaining was the upper level shielding you from the elements and better vendoers :D Figured I would chime in on what I knew about football season ticket pricing to compare, haven’t taken in a Caps game since moving out here, just waiting for April and my first Nationals game.

    • RE: Cell phones on planes

The first time you travel outside the US, esp. to any of the Asian coutries or the UK, you will really hate cellphones then if the thought of someone talking on one during a flight upsets you. Anywhere you go in Ireland, be it train, bus or sitting at a cafe, someone is on their cell, with a two way in their hand texting to someone else. Coming from DC where it seems we all have a celly strapped to our face, this was overwhelming to me. Sitting on a bus for 15 minutes and every single person just talking away…at the coffee house…at the pub that night…at teh pub that morning…

My point is you just need to accept the fact that as technology grows it becomes more used, and the more it is used the more it becomes part of everyday life…when that happens you have to adjust. Sure it is the last thing you want to have happen on a 4 hour flight - Salesguy McGee wearing too much Polo whipping out his cell and talking way too loud about doing lunch, moving 400 units at a hot price and telling his buddy about his neighbors wife, but it is coming. I think if they allowed cell phones to be on but only for text and data messages, alot could be gained for the cell user that needed it, while saving teh sanity for those that didn’t want the conversations.
