    • RE: How do you edit unit prices and values on PC game??

Once in the New Game menu, instead of clicking Begin, click on Options, then Edit Unit is directly above your choice of buttons for that menu.

    • RE: Please help with rule - Liberation of Capital

Just to make sure, that is NOT a rule used with the board game, just a glitch with the computer game.

    • RE: PC Game Strategies - Let's make it interesting

I would be up for an online game, save for the fact I can never connect to The Zone or a direct TCP connection, blasted firewalls. And yes I have tried setting the computers unit cost down to nothing and yet they still only purchase as if they were normal cost. Of course this is the same AI that will not take Karliea back as long as I keep at least one INF in the country…

Isn’t that fun in the computer game when you grab back a capital and go to turn the tide on someone and BAM you lose all your cash to Japan stealing Russia back…one of the many many bugs in the game. And really, is a few crate loads of Russian vodka that bad of a deal?

    • RE: Keeping the India factory

I don’t think the end justify the means with an IC in India. Sure your thought of slowing down the backdoor push from Japan is good, but the IPC’s spent putting units down there to defend and attack take away from the UK’s help in helping keep Karelia, and that is the bigger priority IMHO. In all reality the money would be better spent shoving those troops into Karelia, then into Russia proper then out into the backdoor countries, as Japan will be thin for the first couple of rounds I just believe this is a better way to spend the money.

    • RE: How many rounds does the average game last?

Oh you can just never tell what the dice will do, I have been part of a axis team (I was japan) that had Russia by turn 7, and a good supply of troops on Western Europe. Things went very very wrong, and by turn 19 I am stacking troops on japan hoping for a break…we lost, and it was a lesson learned - Never ever count on victory in this game until it is done, I think that is the appeal of this game, keeps me playing it anyway.

    • RE: How to Counter UK SBRs

I would think the best counter to this would be an increased push by Japan. If they end up toppling Russia and taking all of Europe while UK is busy bombing Germany, you would have a load of pain coming back your way in a hurry as Germany could start to build a navy as Japan started SBR’ing you from Russia while starting to stir things up in the Pacific. The US would be forced to begin defensive measures and if africa is controlled by a Japan at this point, the UK wouldn’t have a lot of wiggle room IPC wise…I think I might just have to play this out tonight and see what happens.

    • RE: Russia cant attack first round

I agree with Big 100%, Germany on T1 has to wipe out any navy or suffer invasions starting in T2 until it breaks them. Since this makes for a game that isn’t much fun you pretty much need the RR rule in place, just adds some more realism and longevity to the game. Just my 2 cents.

    • RE: "The Zone" Multiplayer help

Anyone have any luck on this topic, drives me nuts to not be able to play online against other people as the computer AI is laughable at best. If someone has had some luck with either finding the port to open or plays on The Zone often using WinXP, could you do us the favor of a FAQ detailing what you did to make it work?

    • RE: Flickering screen

In XP you can’t set the res below 16-bit I believe unless you are in safe mode, but I am wrong more often then not. I would still chalk up the flickering to the CD-ROM instead of the video card, if you haven’t updated chipset drivers look to that and make sure you have DMA enabled on the IDE controller. Or you could do the blink real fast trick and hope it doesn’t catch on, could make for strange looks walking in the mall.

    • RE: UK loses Africa.

When I first started playing this game the group was 5 different nations, winner take all. It was very tough playing it with allies vs axis when faces changed, but I can tell you that even the UK can come out on top in every person for themselves. Your best friend in a game like this would be US, so they can help protect your navy around the UK, and then you can allow them to stage troops off the UK. Playing this way has lead to some pretty crazy stuff and the fun you have with the “secret war meetings” is pure comedy.

When you play have you tried abadoning India altogether, instead transporting those troops to Africa instead? Also land your Indian fighter in kenya, and your 2 fighters from UK in French West Africa if it is around in T1, or Persia if it is still around? If you built an IC and put it in UoSA, you would have 3 troops in Kenya as a wall with the fighter. On T2 you could continue positioning yourself in Africa and if you had a treaty with the US you would know that you had those IPC’s saved in N America for the time being. Just a thought.

    • RE: Flickering screen

I had the same problem once apon a time, couple of solutions.

      1. Update your chipset drivers, esp. if you have a VIA chipset, get the new 4-in-1 drivers and all will be happy.

      2. Make sure DMA is check marked in the device properties of the IDE controller your CDROM drive is one (primary or secondary under IDE controllers in device manager.)

      3. Update your DirectX version, personally I would stay away from anything higher then 8.1 but that is just me.

Let me know if this helped at all, when I did solution #1 it fixed my problems.
