    • RE: Paratroopers

I really enjoy the paratrooper technology.  It seems people cry game breaking when something strays the game so far from the standard moves each country should be able to make.  I think Germany and Russia trading land while Germany tries to wait for Japan to creep up behind Russia can get redundant.  With technology people can break from that mold.  Like FMG said, it makes the game dynamic.  This of course is from my view of the game as a mere mortal who plays with brothers and cousins.  They never really get to play much or frequent the forums.  So sometimes we are left with some really weird scenarios that rarely follow what a country’s player “should” do.

This was a great question that I probably would not have considered unless it came up, and great Kreighund could answer!  I say +1 to you both!  Aside from saying that I am not sure how to actually give you guys +1 karma on these boards.

    • RE: Re: Field Marshal Games Pieces Project Discussion thread

I would buy two sets for sure, and if all goes well with my promotion possibly four sets.  I really would like to see this succeed.  I’ll try to hit up some of the hobby stores I frequent and get the word out and wherever else I know AA players congregate.

    • RE: Since this is a Ltd Edition game, are there any shortages out there?

Wow, I am glad my wife bought the game for me before Christmas.  I didn’t even think they might limit the number they put out, also did not see that it was a limited edition.  Some limited edition items usually get shipped out first with something extra, and then another batch comes out later, usually lacking something cool that was in the first wave.  An example, Halo 2 limited edition came in a metal box, they only made so many and then you had to settle for a regular plastic one.  Maybe that is what will happen with AA50?  I am not sure what they might take out, maybe the box containers? change the map?

    • RE: Tech with planes seems just way to over powered.

Need to think about the capitol ship thing, when do they get two attacks?  Attacking, Defending and Shore bombardment?  If so does it always attack on a 4 on all those instances? Do you get two shore shots for one transport offload or do you need two for the extra shot?  HB’s attack on a 4 twice but definitely do not defend on a 4 and they don’t get shore bombardment.  Just some stuff to consider about what house rules you are making.

    • RE: Is Japan a Monster? [Economic Breakdown]

I think Japan is only a monster if left alone.  If U.K. is defeated in India and assume no IC is built to try to halt Japan.  Only the U.S. can really bring a fight and kill units.  Sure Russia can divert but they are busy surviving and tackling Germany.  Germany is smack in the middle of the three allies and it is much easier for them to bring their numbers to bear against Germany.  More German units will die and be taken off the board so it will appear Germany has less, when in reality it pumped out as many units IPC worth but lost more than Japan.  If Japan floats happily around the pacific and piles units on land unopposed then it will appear like an orange plague is covering everything.

I agree with your math, so maybe Japan just looks like a monster on the board because of the area it can influence.

    • RE: Latest optional rules; escorting fighters & closed bosporus

I love bombers and I still feel like its a 15 IPC loss when one of them drops.  Its weird the cost only being 12 now.

I like the colors.  If I didn’t, nothing a can of spray paint can’t fix.

    • RE: Defending against Subs

      @claborne:

So…. when you have a fleet of mixed subs/surface warships being attacked by only planes, you CANNOT take the subs as casualties?

No, they can not be taken as casualties.  Only if the attacker sends a destroyer with his planes can your subs be removed by air attacks.

    • RE: Tech roles and YOU

My brothers and cousins only managed two games of the anniversary edition so far.  As the U.S., both times, I usually dedicate 5 IPCs a turn for tech.  If I were Germany or Japan and playing with N.O.'s and making upwards of 40 IPCs I would probably buy one a turn.  Of course if I desperately need to purchase something and can’t squeeze it with the tech buy, I guess I’d drop the tech.

Its nice if you buy a tech roll once, because even if you don’t get it, or spend more IPCs to buy another die, you can always roll that one you bought previously.

Probably will get this before someone responds, but how do you remove pieces from the board?

    • RE: Can the Allies win in 1942?

I do think the rule that transports pass right over subs is slightly sckewed.  I thought maybe the sub owned could decide to surface and attack or stay hidden, but I guess that is a no no.  I can understand a sub commander not wanting to surface and face cruisers, carriers and a battleship, but transports, man that is like a flock of sheep passing over the wolf without a shepard nearby!
