    • Flagships - Borrowed that is!

Der Kuenstler’s video on YouTube inspired me to adopt his house rule on flagships. (check out his video when you get the chance).  Also, for the first time, I tried my hand at painting A&A sculpts.

Quick version of DK’s rule: cost 24 IPC, 3 hits to sink, 4a/4d/2m (normal) & only 1 flagship allowed on the board per nation at a time (2 British in photo for 1 UK & 1 UK PAC).

I didn’t search the threads to see if he has posted this in the past.  If he has, sorry for the duplicate post.  I just thought this was a worthy house rule to be shared.

    • RE: Twix House Rules 1.4 - Figured I'd post our final rules for anyone else to use

Here are some of the rules I liked that are different:

Naval spotting - makes sense, maybe add +1 to spotting roll if sub or plane present.

Research - I’m assuming those are free rolls.

AAA - firing before each round.  At 5 planes seems a bit steep.

Cruiser (AA) - That’s a house rule I already use.  Makes them a little more useful.

Railroads - I’ve seen and used them, but with a limit to units moved.  But since your limiting it to 2 spaces.

Research Focus - A research tech for your research roll.  Brilliant!

Heavy transports - Another one in use.

      Sonar - Interesting concept.

Not sure on the “Dodge” concept.  Thanks for the listing of your rules.

    • RE: IL's Global 40 House Rules

Like how you laid out the details of ideas I have read about or used before and a couple of new ones for me (special army groups is one).

Would the light/escort carries movement stay at 2 or bumped up to 3 like battlecruiser? I assume movement is the number missing on your detail.

Also, I think the cost of self-propelled artillery might be a little high.  Just a thought.

    • RE: Hero Token

This one and done type of house rule would be easy to implement. No unit piece needed.

I would still prefer a unit piece that could be used more than once or until destroyed in battle.

@5 would work for a one time use, but less would seem better for a multiple use unit.

    • RE: Table of Champions Kansas City Games 126 and 127 2.18 2.20 President's Day

I was there on the last day on Team Allies.

One of the 2013 & 2015 GenCon winners as Germany/Italy
One of the 2016 GenCon winners as Japan

Trevor, Rob and Myself as the Allies narrowly escaped defeat before turning the game into a victory.  Three British infantry turned the tide by boldly retaking Calcutta.

      Good game guys!

    • RE: Looking for Players in Kansas City

      esptrevor,

Yeah I have hung on to my original AA game from 80’s as well.  We mostly play the Global versions and occasionally the 1942 version you just purchased.

TableTop games is a game store with a game room attached that’s available for open games & tournaments when reserved.  I’ve always been a gamer and enjoy seeing what other games are being played there.  Its on Metcalf at 93 rd street in Overland Park.

I’ll get you added to the email list and look forward to you joining a game with us.

    • RE: Railways for G-40

Like the idea of having a train unit that you could purchase to increase the number of units that can be moved.

Also, would like the option for Tac Bombers to attack train units.  Then you would have to make a choice to unload units before a territory the enemy can attack or take the risk by going in.

    • RE: Famous WW2 quotes needed

The best quote of the war should be represented even if it doesn’t apply for your cards.

When the Germans asked the 101 st Airborne to surrender at Bastogne, McAuliffe replied “NUTS”.

JRandel, we might have a game going on 11/18.  Not nailed down yet or where it might be.

However, we have a Global game set up for 12/3 at Table Top Games in Overland Park (not sure on the time yet).

Send me your email and I’ll add you to the thread.  More that happy to have you come out for some A&A.

    • RE: What changes to the G40 map would you like to see?

I guess my thought above to the Caroline Islands have a 1 IPC value was more based on Iwo Jima having a 1 IPC value already on the map despite its zero resource value.  Both are strategic and both are worthless when it comes to resources.

    • RE: Radar Stations

Radar station is a good idea, however maybe as a buyable upgrade to an airbase facility similar to the Radar Tech.  Not sure another facility for this addition is the way to go.

    • RE: What changes to the G40 map would you like to see?

Along with Karl7’s most excellent list I would like to see the Caroline Islands with a 1 IPC value.

It has an airbase, naval base and is in a valuable positon in the Pacific.

    • RE: New Custom Map Project

I struggled with voting on the poll between configuring sea zones, territories and IPC values of territories, however with not knowing what the thought is on new configurations I went with IPC values.

Its always been a mystery to me why some well fought over territories have a zero value?  Also, it was mentioned earlier about the eastern Russian territories if one of those could be a 2 IPC value that would be huge for the Allies to build a minor and stem the Japanese sweep that invariably occurs.  Or huge for Japan if they capture the minor.

Actually, most of the items on your poll would be great to see.  Thanks for the effort YG.

    • RE: Corsica and Balearic Islands

Agreed.  Since the island has zero IPC value its only real value is landing planes if its a friendly territory.

Why are some of the “valuable” islands in the Pacific worth zero IPC’s?

    • RE: RetroFuhrerMeister's 1940 Rules and Setup

Is there any feedback on playing this set up/turn order/NO’s?

      • France goes first with more units & aircraft carrier

      • Italy starts out neutral

      • US navy with 4 aircraft carriers to start

Just to name a few changes that seem big to me.  The victory conditions listed & different NO from the original I have used before and found them to enhance the game play.

Hopefully, I can get this set up/rules in place and we can try it out soon.  Just curious in the meantime what others have discovered from their experience.

    • RE: New Facility - Bunkers

Here is an example of the failure of bombing a small coastal emplacement at Normandy:

      "SAINT-MARCOUF : THE CRISBECQ BATTERY
      GERMAN COASTAL DEFENSE

The only heavy battery on the eastern coast of the Cotentin Peninsula, the Crisbecq Battery, was located 2.5 kilometers from the shore on a crest overlooking all of Utah Beach. From Crisbecq, the Germans could see and defend the entire coastline from Saint-Vaast-la-Hougue to Grandcamp.

Although it was never completed, the Crisbecq battery was the keystone of this portion of the German Atlantic Wall with three, long-range 210 mm cannons and a garrison of 400 men. The Allies dropped over 800 bombs on Crisbecq between April 19 and June 6, 1944. This unrelenting aerial attack climaxed on the night of June 5 when 101 four-engine bombers unleashed 598 tons of explosives on the battery. On June 6, the surroundings were unrecognizable, but the guns were still intact.

At 6 am on D-Day, as GI’s were landing on Utah Beach, Crisbecq opened fire, sinking an American destroyer.

The battery held out for several days, despite shelling by U.S. battleships and attacks from the American Infantry in hand-to-hand trench combat.

To repel the Allied assault, the German commander of Crisbecq radioed to the Azeville battery and requested that it fire on his position. Crisbecq was finally taken at 8:20 am on June 12, after the German commandment ordered its troops to evacuate to La Pernelle, between Quettehou and Barfleur. The fierce German resistance momentarily halted the Allied Advance to the north. "

Just pulled that off of a google search on D-Day.  I’m not trying to be a chump with this post, just noting that “bunkers” were built to be hidden (maybe not all of them) and to withstand such an attack even if discovered before ground operations.  I mean if 101 heavy bombers in one mission the night before D-Day have little impact why should a SBR inflict damage on a bunker?

    • RE: New Facility - Bunkers

A lot of good ideas for bunkers and I get the idea to treat it like a facility with regards to a SBR to keep them similar.  I wonder if the SBR needs to be reduced on the damage or negated on a bunker?

Iwo Jima was bombed day after day after day and sure the airfields where a mess and the vegetation was destroyed, but when the Marines landed the fortifications where mostly intact.  At the time, hitting a bunker with aircraft munitions was nearly impossible.

Can’t answer that… The Italian scenario seems a bit confusing.

I do find the Vichy France/Free France idea very interesting and am going to see if there is any threads on that.

This might actually give ANZAC something offensive to do early in the game and certainly UK can opener opportunities.
