      @Motdc:

      Question on planes…from reading your post it sounds like each player must deploy planes one-at-a-time, alternating back and forth?

      Consider that all your planes can’t take off at the same time.  Part of Naval stratagy.  Watch Midway.

      Sequence of play
      A. Initiative phase
      B. Sea Movement phase
      C. Air Mission phase (players alternate placing Aircraft)
      D. Air Defense phase
      E. Air Attack phase
      F. Surface Attack phase
      G. Torpedo Attack phase
      H. Air Return phase
      I. End of Turn
      Casualty is performed after each individual attack sequence.

      Example: The way I understand it if a ship is sunk during the Air Attack phase it is removed at the end of the Air Attack phase and can not attack during the Surface Attack phase, Torpedo Attack phase.

    • RE: Help a newbie get started.

      @foxtrot7:

      I have played axis and allies for years but just found out yesterday about miniatures (and this site incidentaly).

      My buddy and I were having a discussion about the possibility of adding a combat strategy element to the full board game.  I always hated the randomness of the dice rolls and the predictability of Low Lucking.  He mentioned I pick up some miniatures.  I always assumed the miniatures were just fancy pieces for the full board game and did not realize it was a full game.

      I want to get started creating and tweaking a rule-set to incorporate miniatures into the full board game.  I was going to just print out all the unit cards and rules for miniatures make some cardboard pieces to mark the units and print out custom maps to get me going.  However, since spending all day yesterday reading about miniatures I have a strong urge to collect everything.

      This brings me to my question.  I would like to have all the rule-sets for all the different sets and all the maps that were/are produced.  I can work with just unit cards for now and collect pieces as I go (or as I can stash money away for cases barring any unfortunate discovery of said stash by my wife).

      If I buy one of every starter set will that get me every map and rule-set?
      When I get my stash up to significant levels and ready to buy some cases, which set(s) should I buy in order to complete the collection?
      Is there any other advice that any of you might recommend?

      Thank you in advance
      Foxtrot7

      BTW this forum rocks and I am sure it will get me in trouble with the boss sooner or later.

      I too was a big A&A board gamer and got into the minis because of it.  My intentions were similar to yours, perhaps incorporate one game into the other and recreate individual board game battles with the minis.  It’s just not possible because there are too many different mini units.  Also there is no elimate the other army rules to win.  Each game has an iniative to control.

      After playing A&A minis I realized that this game stands alone.  It is better and more fun than the board game.  Lets face the facts, there is a text book way to play and win the board game.  There are no secrets and there is a formula to win with every nation.

      Half the fun of the minis is blding your armies.  No two games start the same and each army bld had weekness and strenths.  It plays in one hour instead of week(s).  You can play several games a couple of hours instead of worring about you cat, wife, kids knocking over you board game pcs during down time.  Units are historically acurate.  There are cool scenarios that recreate actual battles.  Collecting is cool.

      All I can say is give it a try… if you come up with a way to include minis into the board game that would be great.  As a matter of fact I’m sure they’ll be a job waiting for you at WOC if you do.

      @Brian_66:

      I’ve been testing the first War at Sea MapView mod in the “Play Miniatures” section of this forum. Look for “GC_T1_B1 Cobalt vs Brian” post. My gut feel is that the back and forth placement of air units will drag games out to a very long time. There are also “casualty” maps required at the end of each phase. So while an Axis & Allies Miniatures game turn can be conducted in about 6-8 back and forth posts between players, it would take a War at Sea game at least 12 and probably between 15 - 20 back and forth posts between players. I’m thinking the only way to play War at Sea online is via some sort of realtime Java game engine like the ones used at Gleemax.

      This was my fear with WAS.  Alternating placement of the air units takes a considerable amount of time.

      However play by post can be done in realtime.  It’s a very quick download and upload with a fast connection.

    • RE: "Easy Eight" officially revised (stats and cost)!!

      It’s always had armor-piercing rounds.  Once per game you use this SA and if you score two hits the enemy vehicle is destroyed.

      @Deaths:

      I figured it out. He He

      Nice.

      Your Carrier looks alittle off. Fuzzy. I know it’s a test. GJ though

      Now can you use this thing in a thread where Both players can Manipulate their Pieces on 1 Map?

      I’m happy to see your able to use it.

      Not sure what you mean by both players can manipulate ther pieces on one map?  We play turn by turn.  At the beginning of the turn you add a new map and name it (allies move 1, axis attack 2 etc).  At the end of your turn you post the map in the forum, the opossing player does the same for his turn.  so on and so on.

      We use blue arrows for movement and red for attack.

      At any point in the game you can tab back on the map to view previous rounds.

      @Ducky:

      16 units (including the ammo dump) isn’t too light… Especially considering they’re all pretty hard to kill.

      sorry my bad… didn’t realize you had two platoons…

      damn that’s hard to kill.

      @Half-Track:

      I dislike the Sherman platoon.  I nicknamed the easy eight the “chezzy eight”.  It’s usless.

      for 80 pnts I’d take two shermans and some tank destroyers.  Maybe two M-10 or I really like the 36 pnts tank destoyer (can’t recall the name right now)

      or the recosted Pershing + anything else.

      also add a hero whenever possible…

      I decided for sure to use the build in the post directly above your Half Track. It seems pretty solid.

      its a bit light on quantity.

      88mm gun is already out.  It has some nice attack abilities but I don’t think it could take one a whole division.

      I beg to differ about the Luftwaffe.  I’ve seen shows that interviewed spitfire pilots and they said the spitfire had a great turn radius and they kicked the Luftwaffe’s butts.

      Thank you so much! I should take it slow but it’s hard when your so hooked. I love WWII history so much that Axis and Allies is like some “dream come true” of a game to me. Love your singnature quote by the way.

      It’s better than I could do, not bad at all.

      DH, check out our minis game and look at one of the maps on map view.  Tell me what you think.  It visually nice and east to use and move units, show attacks etc.

      OK … I may not be a programmer or computer savy, but I’m here to tell you that I can do a much better map than that.

      Listen, I’m sure the map above gets the job done, but why settle for one of the Olsen twins when you can have Jessica Alba.  :)
