Colonel Klink! Hogan and his men ran circles around him. I don’t really think Stalag 13 deserved its reputation as escape proof.

Unique in that no matter which way you face him, his back will always be to nearby German units.

Caroline Islands. It was Japans main base in the Carolines in WW II.

I think that’s a fair assesment, but, overall it’s probably a better position for Japan if India is conquered.

I’m not really Italian or disappionted. I think it’s pretty cool Italy is a seperate player, but, aside from that, I’m far more curious/concerned about game design, and honestly, I couldn’t even guess at what an Italian tank or artillary piece even looked like from WW II. Though I did hear that their fighters were pretty nice.

I still would have rather seen a Mustang as the US fighter.

No, because until it is at war, US units may not move into allied territories.

    • RE: Operation Sealion a Possibility with AA1940 Europe?

I would think that a combined US income might provide a bit of incentive to keep Japan from making a J1 attack in the Pacific. Especially in light of potentially giving the US a 60-70 IPC income boost. I can’t wait to try the combined game. The only real debate with my gaming group is do we play Europe alone a few times first or just jump right in.

That depends on the air losses they take in killing India. All of Asia (plus the NO bonus for India) is only +30 IPC’s, bringing Japan up to America’s income. Though no longer needing to fund a landwar would allow them to concentrate on naval production. As well as possibly having better positioned factories to contest the DEI.

      @Uncle_Joe:

Edit: If Japan lands their air force in Kwangsi, Uk may need to move up their airforce and the AA gun as well. The only problem with this being that now bombers could potentially make strategic bombing raids on India. In this event you have to prioritize, a round of lost income vs India falling.

No, factories have their own inherent AA guns now (which makes SBR even weaker). You can safely move the gun out without costing yourself anything on that front.

I understand that. Four fighters that can intercept bombers on a 2 or less is the deterent to strategic bombing raids (that now land in Burma). You move the AA gun to Burma to guard against a Jap air rush on the territory.

As far as this strat as a whole, I do think India is the easiest target for Japan, but when you get into move and counter move on the forums it just devolves into Theory and Allies. List a specific set of moves. If the strat is unstopable it stands to reason that a similiar set of moves will be used each time.

On J2 what are they bringing into the Shan state that the UK cannot counter attack and kill? You hit the Phillipines on turn 1 and your other transport is in Celebes. So assuming you only take one loss on the Phillipines, on J2 you could move in the Shan state with 2 infantry from Siam, 3 infantry and an arty from Kwangsi (assuming they moved into French Indo China on turn one), plus the 2 infantry from the Celebes and a Infantry, arty and a tank from the Phillipines. This leaves a total of 8 infantry, 2 arty, and a tank.

On UK turn 1 they should be moving their ground units in India into Burma, this leaves them with 5 infantry, and an arty. So on UK2 they counter attack with 9 infantry (5 in Burma and 4 in Malaya), an arty, 4 fighters and a tac bomber. Round one UK should get 4-5 hits, Japan should get about 4 hits. next round UK should have about 4 hits, while Japan should average 3 (assuming UK only had 4 hits on the first round of combat). Round three Uk should have three hits wiping the ground units out, while Japan should return one hit. Leaving the UK to occupy with an infantry and an arty. This destroys a pretty big chunk of the Japanese ground forces and will likely leave them weak in both South East Asia and the Dutch East Indies.

Edit: If Japan lands their air force in Kwangsi, Uk may need to move up their airforce and the AA gun as well. The only problem with this being that now bombers could potentially make strategic bombing raids on India. In this event you have to prioritize, a round of lost income vs India falling. Either way if Japan pushes hard for India they will need allied help or they’ll fall. The allies should exploit this by taking control of the DEI.

    • RE: Please Find the Hole in this Strat

Japan can bring every plane it posses to the US, by the time they’re ready to attack, the Western US will be more then able to repel the attack. Obviously if the Western US falls Japan will likely win the game, even without the 40 IPC NO bonus. What does Japan bring in that can beat potentially 32 Infantry, a mechanized infantry, an arty, 2 tanks, 8 fighters (12 when Anzac fighters lands), 3 tac bombers, and 3 bombers? This force averages over 20 kills on the defense.

Every strat I’ve seen that involves an attempt to take the US involves the US player blithely ignoring any invasion signs and making poor purchases. If the Japanese fleet moves toward the US, assume an invasion is coming, heck if they mass up in Seazone 6 on turn one, assume it’s coming. It’s silly not too, the US is the primary adversary for Japan, you cannot afford to chance it falling. Feel free to post your strat on how to successfully invade the Western US, I’m sure it’ll be picked apart. I really think that the San Fran rush was likely extensively tested, and it’s just not going to happen against any kind of decent player.

I imagine it will be more important in the combined game, when the territories to the north are populated with Russians.

That’s cool, does anyone know if there are any plans to produce an IPC chart that goes to say….80? I’d much rather see that.

It doesn’t really matter if Alaska is kept or held. It’s all about diverting enough of Japans resources to a fruitless venture, while India and the Anzacs are cleaning up the south pacific. Once US switches to a wartime economy and Japan is still pulling in 30-35 IPC’s a turn it’s pretty much over. All your forces will be facing an American enemy that is out producing you while you steadily lose ground in Asia.
