    • RE: HBG Sea Mine, Research, Radar, SS Markers & Land Mine [Acrylic Markers]

IL - Why do you want to limit mines to one per area?  AA guns are not limited like this.  I was thinking about Russia using this as Germany approaches her cities, but I would rather use the $6 to buy infantry who can take a hit and can also fire back repeatedly.  At the most I would spend $6 on taking out 3 German infantry.  If I can place more mines and possibly get a chance at hitting tanks or artillery then it is more appealing to me, and I am forced to choose between that risk (of not hitting any) and placing more Russian infantry.

In the sea it makes more sense because any ship you hit is an expensive unit comparable to one mine.

I thought this was an interesting idea and variant.  Love the chart too - thanks for sharing.

@ Gargantua - Some efficient blogging on this forum then!  I wonder who has the MOST time logged in? Is it Commander Jennifer?  Not sure how to check that against everyone else.  You have a sufficiently lower number of posts than her.

Wow, that’s a long time.  It made me curious, my total time logged in is 3 days 4 hours.  Probably pretty small compared to most.  So, after 10 years, how much of Gargantua’s life has been spent on this forum?

    • RE: Technology rolls for G40

I like this idea.  Has anyone played a PC game called Hearts of Iron?  In that game you invest in certain tech but they take awhile to develop.  So you should be able to get the techs you want but over a period of time.  There are pre-requisite techs needed that have to be developed.  If you want heavy tanks you will have to first invest in some other things such as heavier artillery weapons that would be mounted on the heavier tanks.  So in the game you could create pathways to desired techs by investing and building towards things like jet technology, Tiger tanks, etc.  Then you might add in the dice rolling to impede or allow advancement - roll a six and you are stuck and can’t progress forward.  Maybe Jet technology takes five turns of investment, unless you hit some sixes.  Also, each turn you might pay some “investment” fee to keep the advancement going (funding).  Pay the fee before you roll for setbacks. When you first begin investing in a tech the initial “investment fee” might be higher than the subsequent rounds.  Countries could choose to go heavier in tech and have multiple researches going on at the same time, but that would also effect their purchases each round too.  Thoughts?

    • RE: 2nd Edition, WWII: Struggle for Europe and Asia

I believe Imperious Leader has this game and may have even showcased one or two years ago at a convention.  Maybe he can give us some info on it.  I looked at the game’s own forum and IL was talking about getting it and showcasing it.

      IL?

    • RE: Next Sets from Historical Board Gaming

True that the Tiger will be in one of the newer games, but buying one of the new games  would be as much or more than an FMG set.  Yes, HBG sells FMG pieces individually.  But the demand on some specific pieces still makes it hard to get particular units.  The FMG Italian units for sale on HBG have been out of stock more than available.  As of the posting there are no Carro Amato’s available, and only two Semovente’s.  Fortunately, I was able to grab a couple to add into my A&A set for G40.  Otherwise the option is to purchase the entire set from FMG for a lot more.

Isn’t the Tiger one of, if not THE, iconic German tank.  Seems kind of incomplete of coach to offer two sets of Germans without one Tiger model.  His minor axis sets seem in good supply which allows for this model to be more accessible to a greater number of people.

    • RE: How many players use house rules with regularity?

@ axis_roll  - Would you mind sharing any or a few house rules that are different the some of the ones already posted in this thread?  With that many years experience I am thinking that you have developed some good ones.

    • RE: Next Sets from Historical Board Gaming

Please keep the Tiger Tank as part of the list.  Some people can’t afford to buy entire sets, particularly from two companies.  Jeremy’s sets cost $40 and he doesn’t sell pieces individually.  I like to supplement with individual pieces and the Tigers, and Elefants, would be in high demand.  I really appreciate that you sell smaller sets for around $10. If you don’t offer a Tiger then the only way to get one is to spend more and get a lot of other pieces when you really want only the Tiger.

    • RE: Reducing the Ruer and Saarland to Ashes: A US strategy

I have had this conversation with Stalingradski before.  It is good advice.  I played it out numerous times and it is tough for the allies to crack the stalwart defense the Atlantic Wall becomes.  Your opponent may not have the vision for this and so taking Norway for you might be easier.

    • RE: How long does it really take to play?

I just posted this question in a different thread: Is the starting set up fairly similar to A&A?  For example, do the axis begin with air superiority?  Are there any other unit types (mech. art.) that A&A doesn’t have?

      Thanks

How different is the starting set up from A&A?  Do the axis begin ahead of the allies in terms of air power for example?

    • RE: FMG COMBAT UNITS - Rules: AIR TRANSPORT

      @ Tall Paul (or anyone)

Why do you want to require AB for return flight of air transport after dropping paratroop in CM but not for bombers?  If a bomber can fly five spaces, drop bombs, and then land one TT behind a newly conquered one why can’t the transport do the same?

    • RE: Idea: Entrenchment

I like this rule.  It adds a realistic quality - such as the British digging into the desert to withstand Rommel.  This rule has some similarities to several fortification house rules I have read, except that it only takes hits whereas other house rules incorporate “return fire” as part of the fortifications.  I like yours - would you mind attaching a file with the roundels you’ve created so others could try it?

    • RE: German underground factories

Well we have to guess what the “?” is but I think it is saying that SBR hits count at half their value rounded down.  So it they roll a hit of 12 then the actual damage is a 6 because the factories are shielded being underground.

I found this under a thread “additional rules” from 2011:

I read through most of the house rules and don’t recall anything there about German underground factories.  Be interested to hear about this one.

    • RE: Alpha 3.9 Favors Axis

What are the advantages of bringing U.S. in early?  I agree with Rhey that bringing U.S. in early is tougher on axis.  Why give them the extra cash?  Use the extra time to build up axis and stage themselves for whatever their strategy will be.
