@crockett36 You made a video about UK turn 1 moves where you preserve units by consolidating the UK Med fleet with French ships and again consolidating off eastern Africa. The purchase for UK is 3 destroyers, but you never place them on the board. How would you allocate them between South Africa and London? And - Doesn’t this purchase go against conventional thinking for defending against sea lion (where UK1 purchases mostly infantry and a fighter)? Sorry for asking so many questions BTW.

@Argothair Of the 4 most plausible targets you list, do you think the US can realistically drive for two of them at once? In particular, drive for one objective each on both sides of the map?

@crockett36 In this post I liked your emphasis on waging economic war on an opponent. You listed these objectives: Taking possession of territory (cash value of these), SB factories and convoys. I was thinking to add denying the achievement of national objectives to your opponent when possible. New players often miss this.

@crockett36 Which is the better sea zone to park the big allied fleet to protect the schucking of soldiers? 110 or 91? GHG’s floating bridge uses 91 which I think has greater flexibility for where to go and really puts pressure on the Axis to defend all it’s European coastal borders. I hate this as a German player–spreading thin to try and have a counterattack available for repulsing an invasion from anywhere. But 110 gives some flexibility (Normandy or Norway for example) but an invasion into the Med becomes obvious as it would take two moves/rounds. Axis could see it coming and set up for it. I like 110 though because it forces Germany to make available aircraft for defense or counter-invasion by keeping the Luftwafe close to the western front and out of the Russia battle.

@crockett36 No, I haven’t had the opportunity to try it. I don’t get many games in–but I’ll get to play one during Christmas and would like to try the floating bridge combined with the objectives you’ve lined out in this thread.

@taamvan Sounds like my college had better carpet! But the end result was the same–falling asleep on the floor…to an unfinished game.

@crockett36 Have you seen GHG’s Floating Bridge strategy video? I like his set up for a shuck basing the navy off Gibraltar and using Morocco to unloading units coming from U.S. but also loading from there into transports with the range to shuck troops to multiple Med targets. The Brits drop an airbase on Gibraltar too allowing a scramble to defend the fleet. Do you think your thoughts here align with the floating bridge approach?

@Rauno-Kinkar I have been watching the Youtube wars using Siredblood’s map and tournament rules. This game is played similar to what you are setting up. Each player takes their turn and records it and then uploads the turn onto Youtube for the other players (and viewers like myself) to watch. I have noticed that the players communicate through messenger about casualty choices, scrambling, and kamikaze. Maybe you can watch some of those videos and see how they do it. Hope that helps.

@crockett36 I like how you prioritize strategic objectives which gives newer players guidelines for decision making as opposed to a scripted line of moves/purchases. Very well articulated and I like the VDH reference. Thanks.

RE: A&A Global for first time playersposted in Blogs
@Young-Grasshopper Very good read for a new player. Thank you for posting it. I’m going to host a game over Christmas and will send a link to this article to a couple of the players who are new. One addendum to the game etiquette for our group specifically is not side tracking the group with too many “why does the Bible say this!” questions making the turns longer than they should be. :relaxed:

Wow. Is there any way you can take some legal action to recoup losses? Very sorry to hear about the past year. I will be hoping you can turn things around and try and offer some support with purchasing products from you guys. Wish there was more that some of us could do.

RE: HBGposted in Marketplace
HBG has been great!
Does anyone know what happened to FMG? I thought they had some momentum with their convention last spring in Canada - rolling out a live Sherman tank as part of it. Lot’s of complaints on the FMG website regarding non-responsiveness from Jeremy who is the owner…I think.

RE: Japan sacking Egyptposted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
Some time ago Young Grasshopper detailed his account of the Japanese Navy taking Egypt (around J5) combined with a G1 Barbarossa. It is a good read and details actual game moves and his opponent’s reactions rather than just speculating outcome. Japan takes India J4 and then progresses into Med. He builds about 10 infantry a turn in Japan to protect homeland rather than invest so much in Korea. The thread is called: G1 Attack on Russia.

Does anyone want to DRIVE A TANK?posted in General Discussion
Has anyone seen this? An amusement park where you can pay to drive tanks and run over stuff:
Web site says:
Located in Kasota, Minn., about 75 miles southwest of Minneapolis. Open several days a month; often fully booked ahead of time. Package that includes driving a tank and shooting a machine gun, $399. Additional $549 to smash a car.
For $3,500 you can drive a tank through a trailer house. I don’t have that kind of money, but they have sold over 600 packages already!

RE: The Raw Luck theorum. (How to make luck, like you make Units)posted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
Gargantua,
Excellent article. I don’t know why Jensen doesn’t have you writing some articles under the “Strategy” section of the website. (Even the house rules section which is very outdated)
I agree with the smaller battles theory but have a couple questions/thoughts:
1. In these smaller battles you are advocating for there isn’t anything mentioned regarding the use of attacking pieces along with the russian infantry. A small stack of only russian infantry inflicts limited damage (rolling at 1) and may not yield as effective a “whittling process” on the German infantry stacks as hoped for. Bringing in Russian fighters helps and they can then return to safety, but I am thinking about the use of armor in these battles and either losing them or exposing them to counter-attack. Killing German infantry at a loss of armor (maybe artillery?) seems too high a risk? The Russian player would have to be quite crafty at both engaging the Germans approaching AND not lose more expensive pieces.
2. I have felt that the Russians should be moving with a force to take Norway which swings the economic battle away from Germany since it also negates a NO. Allocating units for this certainly thins out Russian ability, or at least limits it, to engage in too many smaller conflicts on the approach to Moscow. In games I am playing, the Russian capture of Norway/Finland (etc.) strips Germany of the ability to outbuild Russia on the Russian battlefront - or at least makes those “superstacks” more even. Although, you may view the attacking of Norway as the very thing you are talking about?

RE: Why I am Excited About Axis & Allies 1941posted in Axis & Allies 1941
I am glad for the simpler version because I hope my younger children will get into it for that reason. Only my oldest son will play G40, but it is too long and too complicated for my other sons. I am thinking that they would play 41 and then as they understand the game they may be drawn to the more complex version. G40 is the tops for me - fantastic and worth the time in my opinion. But I play few games because we try and do things that all the family can be a part of.
In this way I share Canuck’s hopes that 41 spawns a new generation of players that graduate upwards to G40.

Darn it IL! Every time I think I have our house rules nailed down you make me rethink them…Good ideas and despite the reworking it creates with our group we are thankful for the time you put into the thoughts presented.
Curious though - how many of these do you use, with any regularity?
