I like Italy. If your fleet can survive past round one, you can dominate africa and the Middle East! The Mediterranean becomes Mare Nostrum!

    • RE: Can an Improved Mech Infantry be supported by a tank and artillery?

Attacking with two artillery and one infantry doesn’t bring the infantry’s attack to three. I think in this case the infantry will still attack at two

    • RE: Choose your Leader

Personally, I don’t rate Lee. He was up against a sequence of poor Union commanders, worst of which was McClellan who failed to attack properly on the Peninsula and even more glaring failed to destroy Lee after Lee’s orders (split of Army of NV) was found during invasion of Maryland. And when it really mattered, Lee ordered an obsolete Napoleonic infantry charge not taking into account that weapons had advanced.

That’s a good point. While his initial opposing comamnders were certainly not strong, Lee recognized this and used their weaknesses against them. He exploited the weak Union leadership and ensured that they could not exploit his own weaknesses. But Sun Tzu is probably still my favourite

    • RE: Soviet Battleships

Moscow AA gun rolled for about 9-10 planes if I remember well, and rolled 8 (EIGHT) ones. The attack failed (just).

8 out of 9 hits? That hurts. I remember in a game of revised for the first 4-5 rounds EVERY AA gun on the board missed every single shot they took, except the India AA gun, which hit every time. The Japanese tried to invade India 3 times but kept loosing their air support and retreated after one combat round. Everyone was strategic bombing everyone else without any problems from the AA guns, but the India gun was shooting everything down. I think AA guns have a mind of their own

    • RE: G1 Barbarossa

The biggest problem I see with a G1 Barbarossa is that the Luftwaffe can’t join in if they are attacking the Royal Navy. And if the Germans do allovate their air force eastward, they don’t completely negate the threat posed by the Royal Navy. I oculd see a G2 Barbarossa being plausible, but G1 is premature.

    • RE: Is that French aircraft carrier ever going to actually be built?

Including it was a nice gesture, but seriously…

It’s there for the same reason there are 2 (two!) russian aircraft carriers and 2 (two!) russian battleships in revised. No one ever builds them, but they’re still there… just in case…

On a side note, if anyone actually builds the French aircraft carrier, you can tell us about it here: http://www.axisandallies.org/forums/index.php?topic=19166.0

    • RE: Most decisive battle of the Second World War

Midway. It completely reversed the balance of power in the Pacific. The Japanese fleet outnumbered the Americans heavily, and most importantly had superior aircraft and aircraft carriers. In only one battle the United States reversed completely and destroyed 4 Japanese CVs to the loss of only 1, and, after that point, the United States was on the offensive.

One may argue that the United States outproduced Japan and could have rebuilt their fleet had they lost the Battle of Midway (or if it hadn’t even taken place). However, the essential fact is that up to that point the US had been almost exclusively defending either its possessions or British/Australian ones. Had the US lost her fleet at Midway, they would have had no battle-ready fleet to attack the Japanese fleets that were still spread out throughout the Pacific. Even when the United States did rebuild a fleet, it would be out of position to do any damage and would take much time to get into the necessary positions. During that time, India or Australia may have capitulated, which would have delt a horrendous psychological defeat to the Americans (remember that in the Pacific psychological warfare was very present: hence the Doolittle raid). Had one of the British powers folded, the US populance may have supported an early peace with Japan, which would be a major victory for the axis. Had Midway been a defeat for the Americans, or had it not taken place, the war would have ended very differently.

    • RE: How do you explain the rules of A&A to newbies?

      If I’m starting from the

      very

beginning, I first play D-Day. It’s the simplest to understand, and they learn about basic combat and movement rules. If they enjoy that game, I upgrade to revised/42 and have them play as Russia along with one or two experienced allied players to show them basic strategy. From that point on, they can comprehend the basic game functions and can work to develop their own strategies. I’m looking forward to getting the global game to make kind of a “final exam” before they graduate AAA basic training.

    • RE: Question regarding the capture of Paris

      1. As soon as Germany conquers central France, they get all 17 (or 19 in Global) of France’s IPCs, just like when any power conquers another power’s capital

      2. I think they can, but I want a second opinion on this

      3. If there are any axis ships (excluding transports) in SZ 125, Russia looses its NO

    • RE: Taking France - what do you use?

The Italians get their NO if any of the Axis control Southern Italy. So if Germany (or Japan, for some reason) controls Southern Italy, the Italians still get their NO, assuming they control the other necessary territories.

    • RE: Cruisers and tac bombers new abilities

The problem with allowing Tacs to select their target is that it makes them better than SBRs. An 11 IPC unit that (when coupled with a tank or fighter) selects its targets on a roll of 4 or less. That’s less expensive for a unit that’s better than the SBR in all categories except range.
