    • RE: Custom painted peices

That Panzer guy over on the other A&AM forums, or whatever his name is, inspired mye to try it out. I haven’t painted in a long time though (my Flames of War models also sit unpainted), so I’m hesitant to try. My GF paints fantasy models, so maybe it’d be a cool couple activity if we painted together. But yea, I’ve been wanting to try…

    • RE: Belated Intro

Well, a belated “hullo hullo” to you then.

I didn’t think you needed to introduce yourself. You’re quite prolific in this hobby and your houserules are near-legendary in my circle. Hah.

Hah, awesome for both of you. He got some sweet models and you made back alot of your cash that you spent on the game I’d guess…

Just so you know, I’m reading all of this stuff you’re posting. I just don’t reply because I have nothing exciting or important to say/add.

      @GrimJesta:

I didn’t know they made card protectors that big.

See that kids? That’s why you don’t let your momma drop you on your head too much when you’re a baby. I thought (for some reason) that the AA&M cards were bigger than normal playing cards. W00t to me. Where’s my white helmet?

    • RE: Spotters: Do They Die Too Easily?

Maybe even a +1 to cover saves might help (which is better than the over-powering sniper cover: I dunno what I was thinking when I suggested that).

    • Spotters: Do They Die Too Easily?

Has anyone had the problem of all spotters/forward observers being blown to high hell by the end of turn one, even if they’re in cover (which doesn’t really help the Jeep too much)? Considering that Forward Observers camoflauged themselves, I’m thinking of giving them a hiding ability similiar to the snipers. Is that too strong now?

    • RE: Cold War, anyone tried it?

France fought beside the Americans and Brits for the duration of the war. I can’t see them siding with the Soviets; at least not right away (perhaps the USSR eventually wins massive swaths of Europe, forcing the French, Romanians, and Polish to fight for them). If war broke out I don’t think the UK would stay as an intermediary for very long. Once France fell to the Soviets they’d see the Red Army as a threat.

The Free West: British, Australians, Canadians, Americans, Free French (DeGaulle quotes as sighing, “Here we so again!”)

The Red Army: Soviets, French, Polish, Romanians, Conscripted Germans/Looted German tanks

One of my favorite video games has alot to do with this. Freedom Fighters assumes that the Soviets actually dropped the first atomic bomb, on Berlin. Thus began the assimilation of all of Europe. Eventually the war reaches American shores.

I didn’t know they made card protectors that big. I need these. I want A&AM to the a game I one day show my grandkids, so I want my cards in good condition. Card protectors are the way to go.

    • RE: Problem with the New 40mm Bofors L60

I agree that it is annoying. The colors are too close to the Axis grey now. Yea, it’s a small thing but it’s a small thing that annoys me. Oh well, any [cencored] is moot since this is the way it’s going to be from now on. My beef with it means that my opponent knows that I’m taking a set III unit now since the card looks radically different from the other sets. Since we only have 1 set of Set III, they can easily guess which units I’m taking and take a counter unit or three.

    • A Possible Alteration To Aircraft Rules…

So we were just messing around with the aircraft rules by using pieces of paper shaped like planes. Hhehe, yea I know, I know: ghetto. But I haven’t bought any of Set III except 1 booster, so I don’t have any planes, but I wanted to see how they played out.

Personally… I think they go down like wheat.

Has anyone come up with any House Rules for airplanes?

I’m brainstorming changes, and one thing I’m thinking of doing is having it where you pay points for the air support rather than an individual plane. The cost for the plane would be the same, but instead of having 1 aircraft that will get shredded by flak (let’s face it, the AA guns are dope!), you roll a 4+ at each Flight Phase. If you make the roll, aircraft support is available that turn; if not it’s either held up by enemy planes, is refuelling or attacking elsewhere. Then you proceed as normal if you get planes.

Three things I want to achieve with this:

      1. You get more than 1 or 2 turns of plane action!
      2. Taking AA guns for AA purposes is justified.
      3. AA guns will be used for AA purposes rather than anti-tank/personnel  usually, since they’ll be busy shooting down planes rather than wasting your Tiger I!

I haven’t even remotely playtested this yet. I’m just brainstorming.

Anyone else change the Aircraft rules at all? Or see a fatal flaw in my line of  thinking?

    • RE: Question regarding American paratroopers

Germany? yea, that’s who the fallschirmjaeger are. The Russians also had paratroopers, but they only saw large-scale action twice as far as jumps are concerned, and they were disasters. But like the German FJ, the Red Army paratroopers were used as shock troops for ground operations. But they were used in small-scale operations a number of times. I dunno if they actually had a specific name though. The thing I thought was cool about the Russian AB was that they dropped in civilian clothes sometimes and worked with Partisan units behind enemy lines… sneaky.

    • RE: Problem with the New 40mm Bofors L60

Alot of the AA guns were also used as effective anti tank/infantry guns as well (depending on the gun), so they’re supposed to be nasty. The Bofor’s anti-infantry is really nasty for only 9 points, but it has a crappy defense and it can’t move and fire, so the trick is to out manuever it. There’s plenty of stuff to kill a 3 Defense unit Hell, just get a Whermact sniper in cover at medium range and ruin that Bofor’s day; it is a Soldier (not vehicle) afterall.

      :)

What I fear is when they come out with the much-needed (and sorely missed in this new set) Flak 8.8! That think is going to do for anti-tank tactics what the Bofors does for anti-infantry…

    • RE: Axis & Allies Miniatures Set 3: Contested Skies

I think I’d shoot myself if I ever spent that much cash on a board game. That assumes I pull the trigger before my girlfriend does! I’ll probably buy another three or 4 boosters, for a grand total of 4 or 5, just to have some new units for the game. The new models are pretty dope.;)
