      @lnxduk:

      sometimes germany will take caucasus turn one. To prevent this, 2 infantry should be enough.

      Why use two? If Germany wants caucasus badly enough, adding another Inf won’t do to much, but then, it might make them send more forces that way.

    • RE: Capital Rule

      first of all, the england taking was an accident. secondly, without all of the capitals, (except maybe russia) there’s not much of a chance of either side winning. the only reason we used the rule above was to lengthen the game a little.

      Though even I, a mild conservative(Nixon-Reagan-W style … not Hitler-Stalin-Mussolini extremist :D ) …

      Nixon, Reagan and W are extremist conservatives to me.

      That’s because you’re from Germany, home of a socialist Government, correct?

      what is up with these people? i’m not going to feel guilty about something that I can’t change, usually I don’t feel guilty about things I CAN change…I realize that perhaps due to my background, I might not be as friendly towards colored people as I am toward white people, but most of them have different interests than me, etc. if I have certain feelings towards people of color, I can change that, and as long as I realize this, that’s all that matters to me.

    • RE: Capital Rule

      [quoteUKcommander]I was wondering if anyone has ever considered using the rule that if your capital is taken, all of your pieces except for your AA guns and I.C.'s are permanetly removed from the board and you are out of the game? I believe it makes the game a whole lot simpler and less stressful.

      One rule I used is exactly the opposite. When the capital (England in this case) got taken, they collected as usual, and built a new capital in Syria, I believe. This IC was treated as an original, and we managed to completely screw everything up. I know this goes against pretty much every rule, but my friends and I really hate that “stop collecting just because your capital’s gone” rule, so we worked around it-with the approval of the axis, of course.

    • RE: Technology/ Weapons Developement….

      In general, we don’t do too much WD in my games, except every once in a while after capturing a capital all the extra money (and sometimes all the regular income) goes to WD, resulting in one nation having 5 or 6 of the techs, which sometimes gets the other side to surrender right away, especially if the other side is axis. as for crossovers, sometimes we use rules from the newer games, but not usually the units.

    • RE: The Sten Gun

      the first game of A&AE I played, we won by losing-Russia left a backdoor into Moscow open, and a panzer slipped in. However, I (as the U.S.) managed to sneak a transport onto S. Europe, and Germany failed to notice it (he was very tired) The next turn, I built an INF stack and proceded to move up the “soft underbelly” of Europe and crush the Nazis once and for all!

    • RE: The perfect country for the newbe

      The first time I ever played A&A, I got handed Russia and the admonition, “just buy infantry”. Of course, I think we were all pretty new then, only the people who owned the game had any experience, so it was basically them telling everyone else what to do. As far as what country to give to a new player, I would say U.S for the Allies and Japan for the Axis. The real thing to teach them is how to support your allies (some of my friends still don’t get this) :x but again, that’s only my opinion.

      @tonyb:

      leave 3 infantry in cacus moving the other 2 to karilia. move everyone off of russia, sending 2 infantry to the east, and the rest to karillia. end the turn placing 8 infantry on karillia.
      what do you think?

      I think you might as well move all but one off caucasus

    • RE: Another Political thread.. Design your own goverment!

      Being that I’m currently working for the government, I’d have to say that no matter what government you have, the important thing is the ability to say the government is wrong without fear of reprisal. I would say sucks, but that might be going too far. :D Anyway, it seems to me that you should think your country is the best, and if you don’t, what do you have any right to complain about that for anyway? Finally, if you have some complaints, exercise that freedom of speech! I haven’t heard about any people being shot for protesting the war around here lately, but I am in Kuwait. The bottom line is, just enjoy wherever you’re at and don’t complain about feeling superior. Go USA!!! 8)

    • Special Units

      During one particularly insane A&A session, another player moved his battleship onto the land, claiming, “land battleship!” well, my friend and i got to thinking, and we actually put some stats on it. It’s primary use is for endgames when you want to show your opponent how pointless resistance is. (cue diabolical laughter) anyway, the stats:

      Cost: 50 Move: 4 spaces (land or water) Atk/Def: 5/5
      Special: Can act as transport, transports 4 inf/2 arm. Takes 3 hits. Can blitz.

      Any ideas? Modifications?

    • RE: Neutral countries defend; not capitulate…

      Indeed! I also seem to remember from some WWII reading I did that Hitler actually “commandeered” a Spanish division for fighting along the Eastern Front, so the 5 inf 2 arm 1 ftr is probably reasonable, but I don’t know about the other countries

    • RE: Ultimate Axis strategy

      @Zakes:

      The trick to screwing over Russia on the first round is to throw everything, literrally everything at Karelia on the very first round, and buying tons tanks so you can reinforce your front on the second turn. Be prepared to lose Ukraine. The gain, however, is Karelia, and a new factory. Ukraine can be retaken very easily, because of the Russians throw too many troops at Ukraine from Caucausus, Karelia can take Caucausus. If you throw everything at Karelia (planes, tanks, infantry, everything you can possibly mobilize and attack with), you will end up losing only a handful of infantry and an almost impenetrable Karelia.

      Supposing Russia doesn’t attack Ukraine and removes the German transport? That puts the odds in Russia’s favor, and even if you do take it, it’s possible that Britain will recapture Karelia, thus allowing the Russians to place more infantry there, allowing a quick capture of Germany and so on.

      @UKcommander:

      By, the way, do you like it in Kuwait? I had an uncle that lived their until August 1990.

      Well, the scenery (desert) sucks, we have sandstorms roughly every other day, and the noontime temperature is about 120 F. But other than that, I guess it’s not so bad. :D

      I happened to notice that nobody had posted this yet, and it seems like a natural question. Personally, I like to play as Russia or Germany for the massive border clashes are always my favorite battles. I’d like to hear some other opinions.

    • RE: On the Existence of "God"

      first of all, i’m glad this hasn’t developed into something far worse than it could have. most wars ever fought have had some type of religious component, so obviously there had better be something to this. personally, i believe that whoever tries to be a good person and believes that there is a god, will get their version of heaven. if you don’t, no big deal. it can be argued either way, i guess maybe i shouldn’t have started in on this, but really, let’s just all agree to disagree. i’m too tired to be thinking straight, so i’m just going to stop before i ramble too much more.
