    • RE: AAEurope

just read the manual, but one thing is not clear. Why would germany want to capture the middle east? Germany gains the IPC’s and the Allies have to pay for them. But the allies can divide the cost over its teammates (so the US will usually pay for the other countries). Its weird to me, cause the middle east has been given an important position in the game but the rules make it less important then it appears at first sight.

    • RE: Hmmmmm

      1. strategic bombing on germany with your bomber.
      2. destroying the german fleet and protect the british one.
      3. help the british out in africa.
      4. send troops into russia (scandinavia).
      5. try to hold sinkiang as long as possible to secure southern russia (at least that is what i do).

thanks a lot mate, i bought Europe in Arnhem , im saving for pacific now.

4 nils: it costed me 180 guilders, i think thats standard for netherlands isnt it? i saw it on some places for 200, but there is a shop in Essen i think in Germany where they sell them for only 140 guilders.

    • RE: Long post about Japaneese Industrials

dont know yanny, im awfully busy, but i think i can play in the afternoon my time (+1 GMT) next week.

I usually build an IC on turn 4 and sometimes in 3. I then build my armor at these factories and the infantry on Japan. But in the early part of the game i can rely on my fighters to capture china, india and some russian territories. I dont agree with you though on the armor part, i think only 20 or maybe 25% of your forces should be fighter or armor, not 40 or more. You will see that you run out of infantry to defend against counterattacks by moscow.

But anyway you need those fighters to capture asia, not to assist your fleet. Fighters can move 4, which means you can threaten and attack like 4 territories in Asia every turn.

no yanny, your making the same mistake. You will get heavy bombers in 1 of 36 turns, this doesnt have to be the last of these turns, but it will on average be about 18 turns. This means spending or wasting 90 IPC’s (3 turns income) to most likely get heavy bombers. Offcourse that will probably be not worth the cost, but if you realise that there is also a big chance of getting an other technology when trying for heavy bombers.

But anyway i never do weapons development as it involves too many risk.

      additional note:

by investing money in transports to bring troops to the mainland of asia instead of a Industry, you threaten Alaska and Hawaii as well.

    • RE: About those bombers….

no no, if we try to go for 1 technology then its most likely we will need 3 or 4 dice on average to get a technology. This means only 3 or 4 tanks. Id rather get a technology instead of 4 tanks.

    • RE: New A&A player

      welcome aboard

i think that will make russia very weak as it will lose Karelia and maybe even Caucasus the first turn. And with the Japanese coming from behind i dont see how they could possibly recover.

    • RE: About those bombers….

i think i read in the interview with the creator of A&A that heavy bombers were ment to be nukes. But i dont think i really want nukes in the game.

Anyway, i agree with you guys that some of the technologies ruin the game, maybe you can come up with a new weapon to replace it?

    • RE: World at War

i think ill add them to my website soon, although i have to say that my manual (dont know if everyone has the same) is pretty bad written. It starts by stating its the “3nd” edition rules  and the examples are bad and some things are not totally clear.

I just started playing that game again, i got it like 2 or 3 years ago, but the rules were very complicated, so i went back to the original back again.

    • RE: About those bombers….

but heavy bombers can destroy like 30% of Germany’s production, i cant imagine they hit that many. Maybe it would be a good idea to change it to 2 dices for a strategic bombing raid and give the bombers some additional bonus in normal fights.

For example first roll a dice for every bomber you attack with, the defender has to remove tanks or planes when dice is succesfol. I think that would be pretty cool. That would reflect the bombing of airfields and tanks (which the allies did on a large scale during D-day.).

    • RE: A&A Europe or A&A Pacific

i went to buy Europe today, but found out the store had gone  So i had to order it, meaning it will take like half a year for it to arrive

I bought europe because i like european theatre best (must be because i live there =)). Although i must say that i like A&A: Pacific as well, as i like island and fleet warfare in A&A =).

i think i read or watched something that claimed that strategic bombing was never really effective in world war II, and i think i agree with that. It didnt destroy much of the german industrial capacity, it just destroyed lots of cities and a few tanks. Not really that effective. I think 1 dice is quite realistic, 3 dice is just too many.
