    • RE: Tried Japan without early IC's - only transports

you can force players to take certain decisions (i dont think i played 4 terrible german players in a row):
      1. By building an IC in South Africa Germany will send many troops into Africa or leave Africa for what it is. Either way is good for you. If he tries conquering africa, he has to weaken his european force, leaving Africa to the allies means lots of ipc’s less.
      2. By defending Yakut with 5 or 6 infantry allmost all japanese players take southern asia early and dont concentrate on russia, meaning that russia can get up to 30 IPC income or even more.
It works against allmost all players.

Germany is weak itself, it doesnt really matter that much who plays with it. Its simply impossible to defend Eastern Europe with infantry only. Russia can crush Eastern Europe on turn 2 destroying all armor there, which usually is alot. And with the forces in Eastern Europe destroyed Germany cannot defend itself against invasions by all 3 allies. Germany will most likely fall on turn 4 or 5 then, by that time Japan has reached Moscow but Russia can afford buying enough infantry to defend it while the other allies finish off the last remains of Germany.

    • RE: Tried Japan without early IC's - only transports

my last 4 games as allies turned out all the same. I defended Yakut with 5 infantry and Karelia with large numbers, Germany tries taking Africa, Japan goes into South Asia. Britain protects Africa and bombs Germany, US sends in forces to Europe. Turn 2: Russia attacks eastern Europe with Karelia and destroys german armor as well as most infantry, turn 3: Britain attacks Scandinavia, US attacks Western Europe, turn 4: Russia places all units in Russia to stop the Japanese. Britain attacks Germany and is defeated, US attacks Germany from Western Europe and might be defeated, Russia takes Germany on turn 5. Japan does kamikaze on Moscow and loses. End of game

Sooo i leave Japan alone and destroy Germany within 4 or 5 turns. Japan building an IC saves me about 5 infantry on defence in Russia in a positive way. Btw Yanny, wouldnt you need that transport to block German fleet from capturing SA?

    • RE: Defense of Karelia

get 19 infantry in Karelia along with 2 fighters, 1 infantry in Caucasus and 3 tanks into russia. Good defence and your tanks can take out some german armor on turn 2 if they ever attack Karelia and if they dont you can use the armor to counterattack China.

    • About bombers

i think they are underestimated, the damage they can do with their strategic bombing is enormous. I just played a game, bought 1 bomber and 1 industrial for South Africa with Britain, and i was able to ruin Germany’s IPC count to less then 20 a turn, which means they cant do a single thing to russia  And they are also usefull to attack undefended trannies far away from your fighters.

    • RE: Problems with Russia

I play Russia restricted, so i defend Karelia with about 18 infantry, 2 tanks and 2 fighters. I only leave 2 infantry behind in caucasus cause if germany tries taking it with 2 fighters and 3 infantry (opponents often try that i noticed) you can smash the germans in eastern europe on turn 2. Because germany lacks infantry in Eastern Europe on turn 1 so if they send another 3 infantry into Caucasus they dont have the means to protect Eastern Europe. Most german players reinforce EE with armor then and these can be crushed by russia on turn 2

yup after playing a couple of games the 5star computer will get too easy to beat (5 is not much better then 3 so when you managed to beat 3 you can compete with a 5), so you will need to go on the zone or play people on the board game.

I had the board game in 1993 i think (just guessing ) and the computer in about '97 and i learned to play it on the computer game, its much easier to learn on the computer and games dont take as long, which means you can play more games in less time.

its kinda obvious you will get a hard time when allies do japan first strategy. The reason why you went for russia is because its closer to manchuria and therefore you are more tempting to attack Yakut.

yeah your probably right, i tried using this strat today and got lucky my opponent was a weak one. He managed to ruin Germany within 1 turn and gave me africa for free, but anyway Japan was still a pain in the back. I somehow did horribly bad with america and couldnt really make a difference, the complete failure of germany enabled russia to defend itself with ease.

    • RE: Japan first strategies

Japan first strategy might work if:
Russia focuses on Germany and gets a better production then the latter.
Britain captures Africa early in the game.

You will need to prevent Germany from expanding early in the game, if you can conquer Africa with Britain and Karelia and Ukraine with the SU then the SU can force Germany into a stalemate in Europe, which means britain and US can focus on Japan.

      Now heres my suggestion:
Turn 1: Russia: Defend Karelia and Yakut.
Britain: Build an IC in South Africa, send 1 infantry from SA into Tansania (?) as well as 2 infantry and a fighter from India.
US: Build an IC in Sinkiang if no chance of Japanese attack there and subs on the west coast. Use the battleship, transport, 2 fighters and a bomber to attack Japanese forces near Hawaii.
Turn 2: Russia: Capture Ukraine or Scandinavia. Defend Karelia and Yakut.
Britain: Build AC, Capture Egypt if possible or wait for the 2 tanks to be build in SA and attack next turn, if Egypt falls build IC there.
US: Build transports at west coast, send fighters to british AC, bomber to Alaska.
      Next turns:
Russia: Buy infantry and defend Karelia and capture German territories if possible.
Britain: Capture Africa and move into Asia when succeeded.
US: Destroy Japanese fleet and send forces into Far East.

I havent really tested this yet, but it might succeed if Russia is able to get about 30 IPC’s (Germany will have 25 IPC’s when Africa has fallen).

Edit: Note: US can also choose to attack Germany instead, no check on japs then though.

    • RE: Operation Sea Lion

i would go offensive or else he will just take russia instead  but i wonder as well where to get the ipc’s from cause you need about 24 to defend europe, meaning you can only build 1 or 2 trannies a turn who will most likely be destroyed by english and russian fighters.
