Ok, thanx Krieghund…… I really wasn’t sure where I read it, it just confused me.  I understand now why one was mentioned without other.  Thanx again…

    • RE: New Guinea an Island?

As the original poster of this topic I just wated to respond to ascendancy’s What do you think?  He brought home my original point exactly.  It’s obvious by definition that New Guinea is not an island but then you question it because someone has taking the time to point out that Australia is not, when that is even more obvious than New Guinea.  It should be mentioned along side of Australla as to it status in this world of AAP40.

    • RE: UK/ANZAC T2 attack, and a question

Since Christmas my sons have gone back to there homes (far away) leaving me to play by myself.  I’ve come to discover that I’m a pretty good Japanese’s player, I kick my but all the time.  But at the same time I realized that I suck as an allie’s player.  I’ve played out several different scenarios, having Japan attack at different times and I’ve decovered that Japan is almost invincible especially when Japan attacks on J3, (there is no since in Japan waiting for the US to start, and give them time to get fighters in the Phillipines).

However, I’ve have just discovered the best way to slow down and maybe even beat Japan.  As you said in here, the UK (and ANZAC) attacking on turn two.  This has slowed up Japan alot in Aisa and help the Chinese to stay in the fight longer.  All my other games ended the same way; China gone and the UK cornered in India ready to be eaten alive.

After finding this great revelation I searched the site here and found your posting, just wanted to say I totally agree with you 100%.  I’m much slower than you in finding it out, however, now the next time I play myself I will be able to kick my butt with this new found strategy.

    • RE: Bases and others stuff in a world of Plastic

Thanx……I actually got the idea to use tackle boxes before I got my game and had them ready for when it showed up.  I went to a large out door store “Out Door World” and they had a lot of choices.  I got long skinny ones for the regular armies.  Then I got a small one for China and nutral troups and markers, and such.  Then I got a larger one for all the chips from three different AA games, dice, and anything else I could think to thow in.  It’s a little overboard but I just enjoy it more when organized a little better.  Thanks for noticing!

    • RE: Chinese aa gun

I would agree that it would belong to the Chinese, in the scenario you mentioned.  Since the English took the teritory back it (the land) would automatically belong back to China the original owner of the teritory and the AA Gun is sitting there for defense for whoever has troops in the teritory.  So on it’s next turn China could very well place it new troops on that teritory, then if Japan attacked the teritory the Chinese should be able to use it.

My question is; in the rules it mentions that if an IC was built by another power in a Chinese teritory and the chinese take bakc control of the teritory the IC is now removed.  The chinese are limited to only infanty and artillary.  So, should the AA Gun be remove base on this as well?  I think not, I like the idea of the Chinese getting a little more help.  What do the experts think?

    • Bases and others stuff in a world of Plastic

Just thought I’d share what I’ve done.  I couldn’t stand the cardboard and the other stuff missing or sent by mistake so I started making my own stuff out of other games and battle boards, IPC charts and victory cities charts in MS paint, then photo printing at Wally-World.  Now I’ve gone completely overboard and old players of AA will think my complete instructional battle boards are silly, but if any one else might want it to print it I’ll send it to them.  Even though most battles can be resolved on the fly, larger battles are easier to understand with the pictured battle board, and more so for the beginner.  However I am not a beginner, been playing myself since the early 80’s I just do it cause I really like the game and want it as complete as I can make it, ok, over-done but havin’ fun.

Here’s a better pic of my Naval Base and Air Base.

I made two battle boards, one for land two by sea.  hum!, sounds like Paul Revere.

And I got a divider tray for each army, my IPCs from the original game, and I need professional help…

    • RE: So how do the Allies win again?

      Hey Uncle_Joe

You wanted to know how my idea of the US conducting stratigic bombing raids on Japan’s mainland from Iwo Jima went!!!

It was a big bust, as I played it out in my head before attempting to in the game……  I forgot about fighters!!!  How in the world could you ever pull it off when Japan could field fighters all day on the main land whereas the US cannot fly fighters in from Iwo Jima to acompany the bombers, from Iwo Jima to Japan and back is six moves, can’t even do that with an airbase in a fighter.

You would have to launch the fighters form an aircraft carrier in support in order to reach and the Japanese are not going to stand by and let that happen.  So, you’d have to have at least three carriers fully loaded with fighters, all the suport ships to protect the carrier; all this in the sea zone around Iwo Jima, then on the island you would have to have at least three stratigic bombers and gound troups or fighters/tactical bombers on the gound to protect the stratic bombers.  So someone please distract the Japanese while I sneek-in a whole armada in thier backyard.  Any thoughts or ideas…thanx

    • RE: So how do the Allies win again?

I’m still evaluating and learning AAP40 but I agree it seems to lean twards a Japanese victory.  Japan can completely wipe out China and have the UK backed in a conrner with no more navy before the US knows what had happen and can’t do a thing to help.  However, one thing I’m looking into now in favor of the allies is American stratigic bombers in Imo Jimo, along with enough navy and scramling fighters to keep them safe, it can do a lot of damage to Japanese industries.  A bomber can fly nonstop (7 spaces) from Western US to Imo Jimo.  It not that hard to do since Japan is busy taking over China and the UK in India.

    • Kamikaze Situation Question

I understand that Kamikize attacks happen during the allies movement, so here is a situation that I found in my game that I need answered.  US moved and attacked the sea zone around Japan “zone 6” they also attacked and took Iwo Jima in the same combat move.  I could not send in a Kamikize attack when the ships moved into zone 6 because Iwo Jima had not fallen yet (during the US combat movement).  Now Iwo Jima is in US hands (at the end on US combat) and the US has a damaged aircraft carrier and a damaged battleship left over form the battle sitting in zone 6.  Here’s the question; Do I attack now, still during (or at the end of) the US’s combat turn since I could not attack when they moved in, or do I now wait until Japan next combat turn before I can send in Kamikizes?  I read all over the form for this situation and could not find it, hope I’m not duplicating an already discused issue.

    • Newly captured AA Gun

Can a newly captured AA gun be moved on your noncombat move?  Can an AA gun be moved in the noncombat movement phase if it where involved in combat during the combat phase?

    • New Guinea an Island?

Is Dutch New Guinea/New Guinea an island or not?  By definition it is not, because it is not in a single sea zone surrounded by water, whereas each is in its own sea zone but not completely surrounded by water do to the connection to each other.  An island definition was cleared up some in the errata by stating the above definition and mentioned that Japan is a exception and Australia is not considered an island but failed to mention New Guinea’s status.  This does not effect industrial complexes because you can’t build on them anyways because there is no IPC value in either, however, it does effect the scrambling aircraft if you build an airbase.  So the dilemma is, can we scramble aircraft because it’s an island or we can’t scramble because it’s not an island.
