    • RE: The Italian navy in the Med under the new Alpha Plus.1 rules

Yes I made a mistake in my set up with a fighter in Alexandra.  My bad….

However, the fighters could fly from UK if wanted, they would land on the AC, the air units form the AC would land in Malta.

So even with the mistake I made in Alexandra, and leaving the two fighters in the UK and then considering that Germany will wipe out the cruiser in sea zone 91 ya’ll (southerner) don’t think UK can do some worse damage in Alpha Plus.1 than oob with the remaining fleet consisting of the carrier with the fighter & tech bomber and the battleship from sea zone 98, the fighter from Gibraltar.  I guess looking at it now it not so bad.

      Thanks for all your input.

Calvin,  I made the whole global map in paint very detailed and a very large files (6 meg), I’ll go ahead and post in smaller Jpg file and any one interested to download entire file someone can show me how to post a bit map file.

    • The Italian navy in the Med under the new Alpha Plus.1 rules

Somewhere I read with the new Alpha Plus.1 setup the Italians now have a fighting chance in the Mediterranean Sea.  I’m not seeing it!  Before with the OOB I could advance with Italy and put up a good fight.

Now the UK on its first turn can decimate them before they get started.  The UK can move the carrier with the fighter & tech bomber and the battleship from sea zone 98, the cruiser from sea zone 91 (providing the Germans haven’t taken it), the fighters from Gibraltar & Alexandra and if still needed the two fighters from the UK, (they would land on the AC whereas the AC’s planes would land in Malta with the other two from Gibraltar and Alexandra).

All these UK units can go to either sea zone 95 to wipe out the Italian’s cruiser, two destroyers, sub, and two transports or they can go to sea zone 97 (minus the cruiser from sea zone 91) to wipe out the Italian’s battleship, AC with both air units and transport, (and with a little luck on UK’s side they may be able to take on both sea zones at once).

And lastly, they could all just go to sea zone 96 with the protection of the airbase for scrambling and wait to destroy the Italians later.

Either way after UK’s first turn, I don’t see were Italy now has a fighting chance in the Med.  I’m I missing something?  I’m I looking too one-sided at this?

    • Failed amphibious assault, sea battle - retreat question

If I attempt an amphibious assault with war ships and after the first round of sea battle (in which I’ve rolled poorly and took some heavy losses) I retreat my remaining war ships and transporter back one sea zone.  Can my transporter unload its cargo in the non-combat move if the sea zone I’ve retreated to boarders one of mine own territories?  Or does the cargo have to stay on board and unload on the next turn?

    • Alpha Plus.1 - NO when the Soviet Union becomes at War with Japan & vice versa

I’m confused on the verbiage used in Alpha Plus.1 on the two NO for the Soviets & the Japanese involving the treaty between them.

Both states “Collect 12 IPCs, once, and at the beginning of the turn following a declaration of war by Japan on the Soviet Union or (the Soviet Union on Japan).”

Should it read; “Collect 12 IPCs, at once, and at the beginning of the turn following a declaration of war by Japan on the Soviet Union or (the Soviet Union on Japan).”

Implying that the 12 IPCs are awarded twice, immediately & at the next turn.

      Or….

Should it read; “Collect 12 IPCs, once, at the beginning of the turn following a declaration of war by Japan on the Soviet Union or (the Soviet Union on Japan).” Omitting the word and.

Implying the 12 IPCs are awarded only once.

    • RE: Do new rules change Japan IC deployment?

Yes you can build an IC in Japan’s controled; a minor IC.  Your question should read; Can you build a major IC there?  I’ve wondered that myself and assumed that you cannot build a major IC, however, I’m not sure.  Krieghund will have to answer that.

    • New scrambing rule question

Can frienly units scamble with thier friendly powers planes?  Example; Germany is attacking the UK ships in sea zone 110 on G1.  The UK can now scramble the two figters from the UK.  QUESTION:  Can the ANZAC plane scramble too?

Can Italy blitz tanks through a pro-allied Nolrtheast Perisa from Pro-axis Iraq (hat it already owns) and stop at Caucasus.  In others words, can a tank blitz a hostle teritorry with no troups in it, even if it is a neutral.

    • Can the US, while at peace, enter a pro-allied neutral country?

Can the US, while at peace, during a non-combat move, enter a pro-allied neutral country; e.g. Brazil or Persia?  I know they cannot enter a friendly territory so it only stands to reason that they cannot enter a friendly neutral territory.  I’m just trying to confirm this.  I believe this has been answered already, but with no search ability I can’t find it anywhere on the forum, also it is not addressed in the rule book.

Hey Calvin or anyone who might know.  Where is it written about powers with captured capitals capturing another players capital?  I kinda’ remember this from long ago but wasn’t sure, I just wanted to see if I remembered correctly.  I’ve looked everywhere for it and can’t find a thing.  Thanx……

    • Can a captured power capture another power's capital and receive the IPCs

If my capital is captured during a round, let’s say I’m London and the Germans pulled off Sea Lion on me.  So the UK surrenders its IPC on hand to the Germans and can’t receive any IPCs from the IPC chart from any other property they own until it is liberated.  Then during the same round; its UK’s turn, limited with its capital captured it still had a great presence in the Med and was fixing to take Rome and it does.  So if I’m not mistaken it is considered that the entire round happened at the same time.  So basically while the UK is taking Rome it is having it own capital (London) taken.

So here’s my question; Does 1) the UK get to take Italy’s IPCs because they captured Italy’s capital and then be able to put in units via South Africa’s IC even though the UK’s capital is under German control, or b) does Italy’s IPCs get forfeited since the UK’s capital is captured by the German’s and cannot receive income?  Sorry if this has already been addressed, I couldn’t find it anywhere.

    • Indian & Canadian Swap Thought

I had an idea and just wanted to see what people on here thought about it.  I was looking at India and wondered why half should be governed by itself (Calcutta) and the other half (Western India) governed by the UK.  Then I realized the same thing about Canada, it is also governed by two separate governments.  (Keeping it simple; by governed of course I just mean the UK split income rule.)

It would make since to me to switch West India to the Pacific side falling under Calcutta’s control.  Then of course they would gain the 2 IPCs.  Then, the Yukon Territory & British Columbia would like-wise be switched over to the European side falling under the United Kingdom’s control & again they would gain the 1 IPC in British Columbia.  Ok, so hopefully this will not cause an economic up-heaving between the two by changing 1 IPC; UK’s starting income will go down from 29 IPCs to 28 IPCs & Calcutta will go up from 16 IPCs to 17 IPCs.  I don’t see a big disadvantage in game play, and it seems so logical.

Basically, India and Canada are each complete countries consisting of more than one territory.  It really don’t make much since to me that each of these counties is split up to be controlled by two different governments and it’s such a simple fix to make it more geographically correct if anything.

The only other issue I see is, in my games West India always builds a minor IC and pumps 3 units into India each turn.  I really think this is not good because now India is not fighting fair allowing the Japanese to kick its butt like the game indented (pun).  However, the UK can still build a minor IC in Persia (once taken) and then they will have to travel two counties to where they were before.  I think this is also a good thing.  Between help from an IC in Persia & they still can get transporters in from South Africa, they won’t be missing anything.

Please provide feed-back; I’m I missing something and this simple change will destroy the entire game play?

    • RE: 20+ hours of gameplay: is this game too long?

Hello Wild Bill, we talked before months ago on the Pacific 1940 site.  Yes sad but true, my play group consists of me, myself and I.  My sons and son-in-laws who I would normally play with live in Pittsburg, North Carolina, Ohio, and Germany, so I’m stuck playing by myself.  I really do enjoy it though because I can take as long as I want to plan and move.  The game played this way is interesting because there are no real surprises (if I sneak one in on myself it’s because like you said I did a dumb ass move the day before) so it’s mainly a game of what stategy I can muster up with the each armies current situation, slow death by attrition and luck of the dice.  I did miss a few strategic moves in the beginning with the Allies so the Axis has been on the early move, however, as the game is designed it’s not in the Axis best interest to drag it on so now the Allies are starting to turn the tied by round 13.  The US has just moved into the Soviet Far East with a larger armada than the Japanese can produce.  The US is also still threatening Germany via South Italy and Grease and fixing to move into Norway with another armada.  While Japan is fighting its but off to take India and Germany does the same on the Russian front, the US and ANZAC are starting to make the difference.  So either way in the end I will win and I will feel great, however, it will be bitter-sweet because I will be the looser.  Next game I’ll change sides.

    • RE: 20+ hours of gameplay: is this game too long?

I’ve been playing my first game since Aug 25th, eighteen days now, averaging about 2 to 5 hours a day to it.  Been going real slow to look at all possibilities.  I’m in round twelve, UKs turn.  China is gone, of course France has been long gone and the US is sitting strong in Rome, (South Italy) facing off with the Germans and what ever is left of the Italians.  The Germans and Russians are having a war of attrition on the Eastern Front.  Japan and UK are trading blows in India.  Japan can’t get it done because the US & ANZAC keeps bothering them.  It been very interesting, hope to be finished by Christmas, wife wants the War Room er, Dinning Room back.

    • RE: Your worst dice luck in Global so far?

When Germany tried to take Paris, G1  The French and English Units rolled nothing but ones and twos and Germany couldn’t buy a hit.  Needless to say Germany had to retreat with what they had left and let the Itilians take Paris.  Which really helped Italy early on in the game.
