    • RE: New US strat thats tough to beat

As the Japanese player, I usually attack in round 2.  So yes by end of round 4, the US player (my buddy) always has at least 8 bombers in Queensland.  However, I did win our last game against his bomber strat…close game that could have went either way.  I just kept my carriers consolidated together so his bombers took some big losses.

Just when I moved all my forces into Burma I threatened Australia with a big fleet, he used what bombers he had left to hit my fleet instead of Burma…India then fell and game swung my way after that.

As Japan I always kept my carriers around Islands so my carriers took all the hits while still being able to land my planes. Huge importance in this game.  I was also getting some great dice rolls.

But…I still think that bombers should be 14 ipc’s instead of 12.  JMHO

Thats the problem though…every turn he buys 2 bombers, 2 destroyers, 1 transport and 1 infantry, 1 artilery.  He hardly buys ships but when he combines them with the Ausies at Queensland, they are hard to get at.  He waits for me in Burma, just when I’m ready to hit India from Burma, his bombers come in and wipe me out.  This saves India.

The game goes on and on and eventually I lose all the DEI and my money.

    • New US strat thats tough to beat

Been playing a few games now and my friend has found a good little system for the Allies.  Its the ‘conveyer belt’ but every round he purchases 2 bombers for the US.  He sends them down to Queensland and by round 4 he has at least 8 bombers ready to cause havoc on my Japanese fleets in around Borneo, Celebes and Malaya.

I had 2 games where I was ready to finish India and he wiped me out in Burma twice with his bombers from Queensland. Lands them in India with all of indias fighters.  One game he had 9 roles at 4 to my 8 rolls at 2 in Burma and he wiped me out while I only hit him twice.  He then wiped out one of my fleets in Java the next turn and still had 2 bombers left to land back in Aust.

He doesn’t even buy carriers anymore…I just think that bombers are too cheap and need to be raised to 14 ipc or 15.  Our third game is going alot better for me since I have adapted a bit but just doesn’t make the game realistic with this US Strat.  Just wondering if anyone else has seen the same with US bombers.

    • Question on subs

Can I move my carriers into a sea zone that has 2 enemy subs in it in order to land my fighters on them during non-combat phase.

Also do subs get to fire at surface ships that move thru their sea zones. I know they get to fire at transports but not sure about surface ships.  Thanks

    • RE: Strategic Bombing NB or AF

THANKS for the help guys…this is a great forum and I’m really getting into this new game.  My friend and I are getting better at playing the allies which makes for some very close games…usually comes down to whoever makes the best maneuvers at the right time.

Looking forward to Europe in June!

    • Strategic Bombing NB or AF

I don’t have the rules so I’m using this forum to clear things up…friend of mine has the game.
So I can bring Bombers in to bomb an enemy air field or naval base with only its existing AA guns to stop me.  I bring 4 bombers to attack, the air base gets 4 rolls to hit me at 1. Thats it, even if he has infantry in the territory being attacked, only the AA gun fires.

Also, 6 damage points and the base is non-functional and has to be repaired. Is the base repaired at the beginning of his turn when the IPC’s are spent on the repair?
      Thanks for the help.

    • Important question on Borneo

This may be an obvious question but if the Ausies take Borneo from the Japs do the Ausies get the IPC on their collect income or do the British get them since it is originally British.

This happened in our recent game while India was still alive but we were not sure who received the IPC’s.  I assume the British get the IPC’s if the ausies still hold Borneo at the end of Britain’s next turn,  thanks.

    • RE: Question on new units/purchasing

Thanks guys…my friend and I believe this rule is huge for Japan since it allows Japan to build fully loaded carriers quite easily at crucial times in the game, so many extra planes that can land on new carriers.

Makes it tough on the Allies whenever they get in close.

    • Question on new units/purchasing

Can Japan move 2 fighters from asia to Japan during his non-combat phase in order to place them on a newly built carrier that is placed in Japan’s sea zone at the end of that turn? Thanks in advance

    • Question on transports/subs

I (japan) attack Java with 2 loaded transports, a carrier, a BB and a Cruiser.  The allies have a transport only in that sea zone.  Can I destroy the transport with one of the planes from my carrier while my BB and Crusier perform shore bombardment before my transports attack.

I assume if the allies had a sub instead of the transport I could either ignore the sub and bombard with my BB or all the ships would have to be involved in taking out the lone sub.  Not quite sure with the above scenario though

    • Question regarding subs first strike

Okay, don’t have the rules in front of me so I  have another question.  US attacks a Jap  fleet with only subs.  Since the Jap fleet has a destroyer and the US doesn’t, do the Japanese subs in her fleet get a first strike attack and at what die roll. Totally confused with this rule.

    • Question regarding damaged carriers

On allies turn, the US attacks my 2 Jap carrier3 with 4 fighters in Western australia.  My one carrier takes a hit so I cannot land its 2 fighters on it.  Since I own Java which is one space away, could the 2 fighters land on Java?

Or must I take the fighters as loses first in this situation. Thanks

    • RE: So how do the Allies win again?

As the Allies,  you need to be very patient. You need to pick away at the DEI with subs and Transports to land a few troops whenever pssible.  If the Japanese player ends up owning all of the DEI when they eventually take India, the allies are done.  You cannot give Japan the DEI at all costs.

As the US player, I usually send my first two fleets south towards the DEI and then send subs with bombers towards Japan to try and distract him from my southern fleet. Keep him having to split his navy, have him a little worried about Japan itself, this will also relieve some pressure off of Australia.  ANZAC should build subs and hit the DEI as well whenever possible.

My buddy and I are on our fourth game now and we both feel that the game is very well balanced.  First two went to Japan but Allies won the 3rd and look to have a slight edge right now in our current game.  It always comes down to Australia and I learned as the allies that you have to have most of DEI by the time Japan takes INDIA.  His income will be down to 55 while the US and ANZAC combined will equal close to 80. Unless he can take and hold Western Australia, I feel the Allies should be able to wear him down in 3 or 4 turns. I have a fleet heading to Japan next turn.

Great game that can go either way, depends on who makes more mistakes in my opinion.

    • RE: IC locations

New to the forum and love this new pacific game but have a question:

Can the US build an IC in Australia once they are at war with Japan.  It would obviously be a minor industry. I assume they can build it in Queensland to help defend against a Jap amhibous landing from India. Thanks
