      @Granada:

      @special:

      Edit: that’s an odd situation, and a lot of American IC’s…

      Well, the fact it is an odd situation made me to start this discussion.  :wink:

      I have built all these ICs making myself ready for a long fight, and being able to produce units where I really need them. I think I had a good chance to develop a real pressure on FIC/japan, but as we left it I have not really checked.

      Well, odd or not, it is indeed a good base to work from. Within reach of many targets, able to build alot fast. And plenty of subs to avoid Axis naval builds.

      In this situation (and even more after u took Africa), controlling the seas means winning the game (in the long run)

      Stratbombing looks really cool on the first sight. Only I have not seen it worked. I actually have based the post on my personal experience. I have played many players who stratbombed me and almost all of them complained bad luck in the process. I recalled the old CaspSub paper and decided to check out whether what they say was still relevant for Spring 1942.

      And my conclusion was that “bad luck” is nothing that happens to a stratbombing player but something he should expect, bad luck is what stratbombing brings. If you are happy with 0.5 damage inflicted per a raid, than you better think twice about what are the damages you are not inflicting because of strat bombing.

      As for the build of bmbs on WUS, I cannot see a calm Japanese player to be forced into buying anything, maybe a dd just to remove even the faintest hope of succes. 4bmbs would stand just 28 % chance of winning against bb, AC, 2 figs; with a dd it drops to 8 % (assuming the first dd killed the sub, in case the sub has retreated there is even less need for building an extra dd). And some people buy two dds J1 anyway. So the southern fleet would not be even necassary to add to the forces on the japanese sea on turn 2, and they can make it there usually turn 3 leaving any air attack on japanese fleet all but impossible.

      I only recommend a tripple attack on russia’s first turn if your axis opponet is much better than you are. If you get lucky and win all three and west russia went really well only loosing 1-2 infantry than you have now given yourself a great advantage over germany. The real problem with a 3 pronged attack as hobbes said the russian’s are just as spent as the germans. If Any of these battles go ary than the allies have lost before they even began. Especially if west russia goes poorly. I played around 50 games of a three pronged attack in LL and I found out that just attacking ukraine and west russia is a better proposition for the allies. Norway isn’t a good strategy VS. an expert opponet. The battleship might seem like it is nice to save, but attacking norway and winning just lets Germany use his fighters in a better way on R1. Attacking West russia or even caucus as well. Sending the sub up to kill the lone transport of UK’s. Retreating all men from africa possibly and send everything at russia. Russia can’t possibly hold out for long especially if russia stacked 6 infantry in buryatia. Japan can then hurt herself and attack buryatia leaving russia incredibly weak for the rest of the game.

      You guys seem to play quite a bit, so you’ll get a handle on the rules pretty quickly. In the mean time, I would suggest not playing with any house rules. The game is very ballanced as-is, so give it some time before you change things up. We played two games last weekend, same teams on the same sides both games: the Axis won the first, and the Allies won the second. Like I said, it is a very ballanced game. We do use the optional rule for industrial bombing raids, but that is listed in the rulebook, so I don’t consider it a house rule.

      We’ve talked about moving up to the the Global 1940 game, but the fact is that we’re finally comfortable with the 1942 rules, and since we only play once every month or two, we’ll stick with what we’ve got for a while. I never liked winning or losing because of a rule issue, and now that we’re familiar enough with the game, outcomes are decided on strategy and to some extent, dice. Our games are very interesting; no house rules needed.

      @Granada:

      Although I can see the argument that for the experienced players the AA50 is more attractive and for everyvody there are too little changes to revised. I think actually Spring 1942 is actually quite different game to revised because of the change of the transport rules you cannot use many startegies developed for the revised.

      Anyway I still cannot understand why the community would not give the Spring1942 more support.

      The basic strategy is the same for the Axis: kill Russia as quickly as possible. The Allies might have a better shot if they decide to go after Japan, and both KGF and KJF strategies might have similar odds of succeeding, although this is highly debatable. From what I’ve seen so far Allied players are sticking to KGF (I haven’t played against a KJF yet and it is my standard Allied strat), which is harder to accomplish because of the German subs and airforce, plus any Japanese planes sent to Europe, and the transports’ lack of defense.

      AA1942 is a bit like the ugly duckling. AA50 and AAP40 are new and bigger, plus there’s the stigma of being seen as the new rules being stuck on Revised along with a few map changes.
