yeah for the record as upset as i get about any given dicing, i wouldn’t have it any other way… low luck is not for me. live by the dice, die by the dice lol

I totally get it and probably agree. I’m just still bitter about losing back to back alpha series games after I failed to take Paris on G1 both times. One of these decades I’ll get over it.

3 months of 2019 not even entered. Guess that would have been found soon since we were going to start double checking, but good grief.

OK, GovZ will dive back in and maybe I will sometime too.
3 months more data will make things more accurate. No one has noticed their games weren’t all in there.

The data I’ve checked has been very accurate - I think I’ve found only 5 errors in over 700 games. I am interested to see how adding 3 months of data at once will change things. The players that are still around since 2019 have played so many games, I don’t think it will have much of an impact at all.

Let’s get 'er done before 12/31, playoff implications.

I’ll have the 2018 - present games checked long before then. It’s the pre-2018 games I’m wondering about.

I didn’t give this the love it deserves. Adding in game optional rules like tech from the get go is BRILLIANT. And those are great. I would add War Bonds for Russia and even UK. That would bump the income. Obviously tech tokens anniversary style would be a cross variant easy LH approved fix.

Thanks, but the credit goes to Larry - it’s from a 30 year old rule book and how we played in high school. I feel old typing that.

@axis-dominion said in League General Discussion Thread:

I think what’s needed most to breathe fresh new life into global (all variants) is that ever illusive overhaul of the tech development. It’s a whole dimension of the game that’s gone MIA for too long.

Instead of tech being random, my play group is toying with the idea that certain techs are activated once a power takes a specific action. It would work a lot like a one time NO. Examples would be the UK getting Paratroopers the first time it attacks Holland or Japan gaining Shipyards after building an AB on the Solomons. We haven’t played a game - or even figured out how all the techs would work - so I have no idea how this would impact gameplay.

    • RE: L23 2nd Ed OOB AndrewAAGamer (X) vs farmboy (Allies+60)

And just to clarify the odds, when i give the axis 90% (or better) odds, the goal is to create situations where there was allied pressure somewhere else and, if he went for it, he would always have traded units that he was going to need elsewhere. The point is not only to rely on your opponent’s playing conservatively but to create conditions where in the context of the whole board, victories are pyrrhic. In the pacific the Japanese player often is relying on a tonne of air, but lacks ground troops, an outcome is that they often trade the land units they need to hold and take territory on the mainland, or lose air that give him the edge in those battles and help keep the US fleet on the outside.

I think this is one of the major keys to beating Japan - it has very limited production capacity and few starting land units. Japan doesn’t have enough units to do everything it wants if the Allies force them to fight for every bit of land. An early example of this is the Allies taking Sumatra and Java on the first turn. It prevents Japan from walking in with just an Inf. It is also why I’m a fan of keeping the 20 Russian units in the east - to pin some Japanese units in the north.

Looking at this more, I think the Allies can hold Yunnan through J2 with a bid of 13 - if China builds Inf instead of Art and the Russian starting tank & mech move there.

Apologies for my ignorance, but what do “BM” and “COW” stand for? Thank you!

No worries, it’s my fault for using abbreviations.

COW - Author of the standard J1 opening. His Japanese playbook is pinned for details.

BM - BM3/4 is a popular house rule version that I’m not fond of.

Since this seems to be the place to toss out ideas to balance the game, I’ll add mine - Allied Advantage (based on an optional rule from the original game): Russia starts with Industrial Tech, UK starts with Radar, & US starts with War Bonds.

@arthur-bomber-harris said in GovZ (A+60) vs ABH kjf test Low Luck:

This game is an Axis victory on the European side of the map.

You are probably correct. I think I made too many early mistakes to come back.

Moscow needed some more defense to survive R5, and a bunch more defense to survive R6. I can capture the Capitol with no loss to my German air force, allowing an easy push down to Egypt as you have provided no substantial defense there either. You can’t devote this high fraction of your forces to defeating Japan.

6 US bombers can make it to Moscow before G5. I think that gives me a roughly 70% chance of holding Moscow. 7 fighters & a tac make it before G6. It’s toast after that.

      Mistakes / adjustments:

      1. Not moving the sub to SZ92 on UK1 cost me the Med. I don’t know what Italy would do on It1, but it definitely doesn’t get both Gib and a navy.
      2. After you posted your J1, I saw you had given me Korea - so I tried testing a green skies, US4 invasion of Japan. I could hit it with 18 planes and 4 ground units. You have just enough to stop it, assuming you saw it coming J4. I think it is a lot like an early dark skies, Sealion attempt - take it if it is there, but don’t build for it.
      3. With the IJN in Sumatra J2, the US should take the Caroline’s US2. You don’t need to protect Queensland against a J3 attack, you threaten SZ36, and you add leverage to SZ6 freeing up 24 IPC of build on US2.
      4. Playing against a G2 DOW, Russia doesn’t have to worry as much about an Italian can opener. I think I can play a little more openly, and not have to basically turtle.
      5. I would change my bid slightly: subs in 106 & 109, and 2 to the US instead of Scottish fighter & 4 to the US. I’m hoping 4 subs attack 110 & 111 on G1 and I only have to deal with 1 sub in the Atlantic.

I’m willing to continue this game, but I don’t think I will learn much more from it. I do think with the above adjustments this Allied approach is viable against a G2 / G3. If you are willing, I would like to give it another shot. If not, thanks for all your help. I really appreciate it.

@govz aren’t there normally no Japanese transports in range of midway on J2?

In SZ6. I think you are correct. The US puts 4 fighters and the tac on Midway, and the ships, bomber, & 5th fighter at Hawaii on US1.

      @arthur-bomber-harris said in L23 2nd Ed OOB AndrewAAGamer (X) vs farmboy (Allies+60):

@govz I had given up all hope of a victory in the Pacific for Japan in that game. With so much effort to win on that side of the board, I knew the Axis would inevitably win in Europe.

That’s why I’m so intrigued by this idea. If it can keep Japan from overrunning SE Asia into the mid-game - and it seems like it can - then that frees up 70+ in resources that can be used on the other side. I was already buying a fighter R1 to use against Japan so that cost is a wash. The sub in 39 is replaced by the Inf in Yunnan. The ships in 98, 71, & 72 stay or move toward the Med instead of India. Being able to Gibastion would totally change the balance of that game.

There’s some serious late Sealion / dark skies like invasion threat forcing Japan to waste money defending the homeland, but my real target is SZ19.

    • RE: OOB Oysteilo +40 v Gamerman01 with tech - UHD map

What i struggle with here is why the landing is allowed if the destroyer is dead by kamikaze. Then it is just a regular sub vs transport and it never goes well

I thought the same thing, but was corrected recently. I think the choice to ignore the sub happens as part of the combat move phase. If the attacker ignores it, the sub doesn’t play a part anywhere during the conduct combat phase. If the attacking destroyer is then kamikazed, its transport vs empty SZ and the landing happens.

And I’m still not used to this new map.

The India garrison must keep a careful watch on the Japanese fleet. If it looks like they are grouping for an attack, the Garrison pulls back into India.

A decent Japanese player is going to take India by sea with overwhelming air support. Then turn around and stalemate the Allies in the money islands.

ANZAC making 31 a turn isn’t going to happen while the IJN is alive.

@Arthur-Bomber-Harris defend from what, you have a very limited landing fleet?

A transport and 3 bombers, or have you not been following the OOB Finals? A green skies invasion of Japan works the exact same way as a dark skies invasion of London; all you need is a transport in range. And an actual landing isn’t really your goal - forcing Japan to spend resources to defend the capital is.

@GovZ one tpt doesn´t do that much . Dark skies is a defensive strategy and you use it in an offensive way. I´m just trying to understand how it can work

Japan needs transports to win the game, and dark skies is an anti-boat strategy. The target is Japan’s fleet, not Japan itself. Think K-IJN-F, not KJF.
