    • RE: Endangered Species

      The real question is who will have time to play it FTF?

      I have AA Classic, Revised, Europe, Pacific, 50, and now 1942 but our group usually has time for Revised now 1942.  We’ve played FTF one game of AA 50 41 and 42 scenario but it takes too long to setup and to play.

      For AA50 we are now PBF as it’s easier for time but not for making moves as staring at a map program is not a fun thing to do.

      So now AAP40 and AAE40 is coming out with bigger boards, assuming new rules, etc, etc, who will have time and space to play it FTF.

      Classic was great for casual 5 player game because back then we didn’t know better and played on for fun.

      I’m not sure if the game is endangered or the actual FTF games will be.  For our group it’s probably FTF games with AA50, AAE40 & AAP40.

    • RE: Is IL, AH Von Manstein?

      I’m still trying to GUESS WHO AH Von Manstein is.

      Is Von Manstein the MASTERMIND behind IL?

      It’s becoming an OBSESSION for me.

      Am I comparing APPLES TO APPLES between IL & Von Manstein?

      Who has the MONOPOLY on AA news and knowlege?

      I’m probably looking for TROUBLE but this CONSPIRACY is making it so that I CAN’T STOP.

      I’m trying to ACQUIRE the truth.

      I feel like a kid in CANDY LAND or

      a BLOCKHEAD awaiting a lobotomy OPERATION or

      seeking PERFECTION in this KRAZY MAZE of LIFE.

      @Adlertag:

      von Manstein is a thief, he steal IL’s ideas and post them over at AH forum.

      Of course IL is not von Manstein, I know this because IL is banned from the AH forum after calling them chimps

      That’s good to know.  Wow, copy and paste!  No revision or anything.  Here I thought IL was moonlighting at WotC/AH.

      Is IL, AH Von Manstein?

      The reason I ask is that both of their reviews of AA 1942 are exactly the same, it looks like it was copied and pasted in.

      IL’s post below is a day older than AH Von Manstein’s post

      Any idea if both are the same person?

      Question: Is IL, AH Von Manstein?

      I normally don’t go to the AH forum but wanted to see if the rulebook for AA42 was online or even if there was a FAQ and I run across this post, page down until you see AH Von Manstein’s review.

      It’s exactly the same as IL’s post above, even with the smiley and angry face?

      http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=1222684

      If it’s not the same person then who did the review?  IL’s post here is a day earlier than Von Manstein.

    • RE: Preferred option to stall Japanese expansion.

      @WOPR:

      @axis_roll:

      The problem is that the USA doesn’t get much reward for a substantial investment against the Japanese.  It is also very hard, if not impossible to team up on Japan.  UK pacific forces are decimated on J1, and pretty much wiped out by J2, even India.  Sure UK can throw some resources into an IC in India or australia, but those are short term road blocks that Japan will overcome with only a 1 or 2 turn delay…. meanwhile Germany is goose stepping into Stalingrad or Lenningrad on their way to Moscow.

      An IC in India can work very effectively if you do it right. If you really want to have fun you can even build 2 ICs on UK1.  8-) Axis doesn’t know what to do if you pull that on them. I literally rolled over an experienced opponent when I showed him something he hadn’t seen before. He was so taken off his game he made two massive coin flip attacks (50 % chance of success) and lost both of them. He surrendered turn 3 because his situation was pretty much helpless.

      WOPR can you provide more details?  It’s hard to imagine that a factory in India would be that much of a trouble to Japan.

      I meant can’t you drive down to a Target in US?  Load up the games in your car and drive back to Canada?

      Its a long drive for me to go to the States just for a $30 board game.

      @Real:

      Im not going to purchase one.  It looks like revised edition.

      It’s perfect for a guy like me who had my Revised stolen  :wink:

      It’s a longer drive for me from HI, at least Canada is connected to the mainland US.

      Let me know if you need a set, I can always mail it to you!

      If you buy in bulk and share it with friends it might be worthwhile.  ROAD TRIP!!!

    • RE: Allegedly aa42 released

      I’m sure I measured it but I don’t see it on my post.  I’ll look for my notes, if not I’ll remeasure the map.  The measurement of the map is misleading as couple inches on the map on the bottom is taken up by the part to keep track of everyone’s IPC.  I’ll provide the size of the game board and the actual size of the map portion only.  I measured both but like an idiot didn’t put post it.  Thanks for catching it.

      The game board is 33 by 20.

      The actual map is 30 by 20, you lose 3 inches on the bottom from the extra IPC tracking board.

    • RE: How long does a game of AA50 take?

      Our group did 1 game of 1942 w/o NO’s and in 6 hours we got to 4th round (first time playing).  Axis victory.

      1941 w/o NO’s took about 4 hours and it was only round 1 (first time playing this scenario).  No victory for anyone too early to call.

      It’s a great game but takes up a lot of time even w/o NO’s.

    • RE: Noob questions

      Here’s a good thread on bidding

      http://www.axisandallies.org/forums/index.php?topic=10438.0

      Basically it boils down to how many units & IPC does it take to balance the game out.

      Against a great player, you might need more…

      I take it as I’m willing to play Axis for X IPC.

      Also with heavy bombers, others use LHTR (Larry Harris Tournament Rules) where the most damage bmbs can do is limited to the total IPC value of the territory, some use 2X.  Yes, heavy bombers using OOB (Out of the Box) rules seem unfair but it’s still possible to win if you can go after the bmbs.  Deny the bmbs places to land, if all US/UK are buying bmbs than there is less ground troops, etc, etc.  Finding the right balance, but even than I would suggest going with the bid, and a few minor changes.  Take a look above LHTR is stickied.

      Good luck and Good gaming!

    • RE: A&A 1942 review with pics at BGG

      LuckyDay pointed out in another thread that AA42 is available at Target.  Check your local store online to see if they have in stock.  I picked up two from the Target in Aiea (Hawaii).  You may need to ask the toy department clerk as it was not on stock but they had it in the basement.  The box is really small compared to all the AA games, most of the box is filled by a carboard setup to make it look bigger than it should be.  Each box has 4 units in it.  The Aiea Target only had one box (4 games).  Hurry while it lasts.

      The quality of the pieces are nice!  The armors feel heavy and reminds me of AAE.  The rulebook is easy to read and revamped.  Great job Krieghund!

    • RE: Noob questions

      Hey blitzkrieg bob,

      Question: do you play with a bid?

      If not, allies have a major advantage in AAR.  Please take a look at implementing a bid for your games.

      Our group usually does 9 bid (3 inf or 1 art, 1 arm or 1 trn, 1 IPC, etc, etc for either Germany or Japan).

      The German bid usually goes to Africa so that Egypt can be taken in R1.

      Good luck on your games.
