      @gamerman01:

      @gamerman01:

OK, that’s big.  Hasn’t come up in one of my games yet.  Can you tell me where to look in my rulebook in case an opponent questions my clever moves?

OK, I’m home with my rulebook and I find nothing about “embattled” zones and nothing to prohibit movement through an area that was just cleared in the Combat phase.  My arsenal of strategies just increased, I suppose.

      gamerman01: for AA50, page 21, Phase 5 Noncombat move:

The key phrase is friendly territories, once combat is over, if you won, the territory is now friendly and you can move your units (if they didn’t move during combat).

And regarding your other question about dd stopping movements of all ships (only during combat but once it’s cleared yes, naval units may pass through it).

      "Phase 5: Noncombat Move
In this phase, you can move any of your units that did not move in the Combat Move phase or participate in combat during your turn. This is a good time to gather your units, either to strengthen vulnerable territories or to reinforce units at the front. You will also land all your aircraft that participated in and survived the Conduct Combat phase.
Only aircraft and submarines may move through hostile spaces during this phase.

      Where Units Can Move

Land Units: Land units can move into any friendly territories. They cannot move into hostile territories (not even those that contain no combat units but are enemy-controlled). Note, this is the only phase in which antiaircraft guns can move. Air Units: An air unit must end its move in an eligible landing space. Bombers and fi ghters may land in any territory that
was friendly at the start of your turn."

      @gamerman01:

Evil is right.  And I happen to know you’re not talking about Russia  8-)
Axis_roll is correct - no capital, no collecting income.
However, I couldn’t remember for sure - when your capital is under enemy control, and you take over an enemy capital, you still raid their IPC’s, right?  So if you get your capital back later, you have the extra IPC’s to spend?

Yup, if Russia falls to Japan, Japan collects the IPC’s that Russia had.  If Germany falls to Russia, Russia collects the IPC’s that Germany had but Russia can’t spend it until it recovers it’s capital.

Krieghund covered this in a thread, here’s the link:

      @gnasape:

The bmbs are huge and takes up a lot of space.

Then dont buy bombers. Problem solved. See ?

I know I’m telling our group when we play that no bmbs due to space limitation.

      Thanks Aldertag!

    • RE: Naval Battles

      Krieghund,

If a sub engages another sub in battle.

The attacking sub decides whether to attack or submerge.

The defending sub decides whether to defend or submerge.

So if the attacking sub decides to attack and the defending sub decides to submerge, does the attacking sub fire first, than the defending sub submerges if attacking sub misses or there is no battle as the defender submerged?

      Thank you,

Pariah you have the board setup now do a round of purchase, you will find that Germany is too small, UK is too small!

      G1 purchase: 10 inf, 1 ftr or 8 inf, 1 art, 1 bmb.

The initial setup uses up most of the space, now if you add more units, there is less space.  Also when UK/US start landing in Europe it’s really hard to keep track of everything.  The bmbs are huge and takes up a lot of space.

      Welcome to the forum Pariah,

It’s because most people had higher expectation for AA 1942 than the actual game.

I personally like the new sculpts, it’s heftier!

I like the map also but not the map size, it’s too small, try to setup the board and you will know what I mean.

Also the borders for Europe are hard to tell.

The AA50 rules and costs are great.

It’s just that there was no news about AA 1942 only that new map, new sculpts, and new rules and everyone expected all the bells and whistles.  If WotC/AH had come out and said it was Re-Revised than people wouldn’t have expected much and not have been disappointed.

I happen to think this game is great and just waiting for a chance to try different strategy.

Germany can buy bmbs or 2 subs a turn to try to sink the UK/US fleet in the Atlantic!

US can go after Japan with subs and not worry about losing subs to air.

      Lots of possiblities.

    • RE: 1942: Territory question

      Hi P@nther,

I assumed Iceland was US territory (as it’s green) and Formosa as Japanese territory being (orange).

I also assumed that it’s there for landing planes.  I could be totally wrong.

Krieghund would have a better answer.

    • RE: Aa gun, ncm question

      Hey kathfishkris,

The answer is no.  Page 20 of the rulebook, step 6, conclude combat states:

“An antiaircraft gun or industrial complex in the captured territory remains there but now belongs to your side (see Liberating a Territory, below). If you capture an antiaircraft gun, you cannot move it in the Noncombat Move phase of the same turn. If you capture an industrial complex, you cannot mobilize new units there until your next turn.”

Hope this helps, I’m not Krieghund so have to go with the rulebook citation!

Welcome to the AA forum Brain Damaged,

This thread was started back in 03/18/09 so if there’s any news from FMG, they would have posted it here or the FMG dice thread.  Just be patient and check back for news.

    • RE: Additional/House Rules for 1942?

One thing about translating NA’s from AA50 would be Italy.  Without Italy, the NA’s would be in favor of Allies.

If you want to play AA50, use the AA 1942 pieces and IL’s big AA 50 map and download the rules from WotC/AH website.

Not sure about the techs.  Paratrooper would wreck havoc as the board is smaller than AA50 and LRA and paratrooper would allow you to reach almost any territory possible.

As for being bland, I would have to disagree, AA 1942 (AAR with AA50 rules) allows for different strategies, (not sure about a bid as it’s still new and people haven’t had enough time to play with it.

Play with it first before modifying.

      Good gaming.

    • AA gun rule clarification

      Krieghund:

For Revised OOB rules, you stated that aa guns fire during NCM, our group has played it as it only fires during combat, so if you pass over multiple territories with aa guns, each territory with aa gun fire but not during NCM.

I base this on the OOB rulebook page 25,

“Shoot down air units: Antiaircraft guns can shoot down attacking air units.  Whenever an air unit enters a territory containing an enemy antiaircraft gun, the antiaircraft gun fires during the opening fire step of combat.  Roll one die for each attacking air unit (but only one antiaircraft gun in the territory can fire, even if they are controlled by different powers).  For every roll of 1, one attacking air unit is destroyed.”

Also under defense: 1 (opening fire only).

Based on above, even though it says “whenever an air unit enters a territory containing an enemy antiaircraft gun” (which would imply NCM also) but the second part states that “the antiaircraft gun fires during the opening fire step of combat” (doesn’t combat imply that it only fires during combat and not during NCM?).

Thank you in advance for the clarification, our group has been playing OOB rules and we want to get this rule right.

    • RE: Why is AA42 being hated by everyone? I just bought a copy. Sigh.

      @saltz:

I’m a completely new AA player. I just bought AA42, and am seeing people don’t like it very much.

By the way, what the hell is with the empty space in the box?
i lift up the map, rulebook etc, and under it is a huge box of nothing.
Most of the space inside the box is wasted. AM I MISSING SOMETHING?
is something supposed to be there? Because it’s covered up nicely as well, giving me the impression something didn’t get shipped properly…

I heard the game is “broken,” besides using poker chips for the IPC thing, what else could i do to make it a “good” version of AA?

      Welcome to the forum Saltz!

Most people are preoccupied with AA50 (Anniversary edition) and since AA 1942 is a rehash of Revised with updated rules and sculpts you can see why people aren’t jumping for joy.

As for the empty space, it’s to make the box look bigger.  You are not missing anything but I would suggest you count the pieces, I posted here the unit count for each country.

Game is not broken but since the starting units are the same as Revised except for some bb (battleship) and dd (destroyers) being converted to cruisers (Revised required a bid for the Axis but I don’t think people have played enough of AA 1942 to figure out a bid is needed or not).

Our group is thinking of having two flags for each country, one to represent cash on hand and the second to represent IPC controlled.  I would suggest either writing down the IPC, IL has a great spreadsheet you can use for this purpose or use stacks of money from other AA games (if you have it).

Just have fun and play it before you let other’s influence your views.  I am actually excited about AA 1942 and looking for opponents for PBF (Play By Forum) if anyone is interested.  I love AA50 but it gives me a headache trying to figure out what to do.

      Welcome and good gaming.

    • RE: My last game..

Our first time playing AA50 we chose 1942 scenario, no NO, yes to tech even though no one rolled for it.

      6 player game:

USSR: played Revised somewhat, but consider newbie in terms of experience
UK: played Revised somewhat, but consider newbie in terms of experience
US: played Classic & Revised, the person who introduced myself and my friend to the joys of AA, also a brilliant person, the person Axis was worried about the most

German: played Classic, never played revised but a game addict, poker player, usually plays aggressive, newbie
Italy: myself, played Classic, Revised but I would still consider myself as newbie
Japan: played Revised, conservative player, newbie

      Turn 1:

Japan does it’s normal attacks but has the airforce in place to land in Cau, just in case.
Russia buys 8 inf, fortifies Karelia, leaves open Cau, no attacks.
Germany sees the opening to Cau, takes it heavy.
UK buys fleet tries to put pressure on Germany.
Italy reinforces Cau with everything possible.
US buys fleet but still too far away.

      Turn 2:

Japan does some attacks but lands it’s ftrs in Cauc.  Heavy fortification.
Russia in trouble buys more inf and tries to hold Moscow.
Germany buys arms in Cau, does some attacks but all forces being deployed to Eastern front.
      UK lands in Norway, France.
      Italy takes back France,
      US starts to come around.

      Turn 3:

Japan is stalling in China due to lack of airforce but does enough to survive and goes through Russian territory instead of India or China.
Russia is in trouble and stacks.
UK takes out the Italian fleet (my mistake in not seeing the counter attack).
Italy buys land units, uses ftr to remove some UK navy loses ftr.
      US is in Europe!

      Turn 4:

      More builds by everyone.

      Turn 5:
Japan/Germany in position to take out Russia 1-2 punch, Russia taken with no counter attack in sight.

Game is over with Axis win.

This game only worked due to Russia having Cau open, and at the sacrifice of Italy/Japan reinforcine Cauc.

China was running free without the Japanese ftrs being available for attack.

Our gaming sessions are short 5-6 hours so everyone plays differently due to time constraints.
