      I agree with Sgt Blitz.

But remember if WotC wants AA to be like MtG than we would get everything separately in four month increments.

WotC would release a Germany map piece along with it’s starting placement, wait four months get SEu, wait another four months for WEu, and then wait again for EEu map piece with units, and on and on and in two years you should have the whole map to play AA.

I love AA moving and improving but each movement and improvement should be followed by newer better things.

It’s our fault for buying them also but I can’t resist!!!

We might have to setup a separate board for people that need intervention AAA (Axis and Allies Anonymous).

Hello my name is gnasape and I own 3 sets of AAP, AAE…

This is how to use the dice roller in this server.

You can find the addon for AA50 and AA1942 at respective forums.

Make sure you get the addon’s before you open AA50 or other games that are not supported on the original AA Battlemap, you can tell when you try to open up the intial map for the senarios.  If it’s not listed, than it’s not going to work.

      Good luck and good gaming.

      Fess36,

Dang, just called the store and they are out (I think I did too good of a job advertising on this forum, couple months back).  The owner has one copy (opened, it’s his playing copy) but he was “willing” to part with it for $200.

I sent you an email so let me know what you think.

Question: are you looking for AA50 to have one or more for playing?

      Sorry,

      Sorry Fess36,

Let me know if you are still interested, I’ll take a look.

There’s a shop in Hawaii that still had it on stock (I called about 2 months ago; I already have two sets, one for play and one new), also not sure what the shipping rates are like to Denmark but instead of being ripped off at ebay, I can always help out a fellow AA player.

Never asked if he does direct shipping but here’s the store information for your information:

      Armchair Adventurer
      1287 Kalani St # 105
      Honolulu, HI 96817-4960
      (808) 843-1250

Try to give him a call and find out if he is willing to ship it, if not let me know and I can pickup and arrange for shipping.

Last time I checked it was $100 + 4.712% tax, not sure if he raised his prices or not but probably not.

I will say this again,  depending on where you are, look at your phone book and visit every small local gaming store and you will be surprised.  Do this first before spending money on ebay.  It will take some time but that’s part of the fun.  AA50 is worth it!

      Veqryn,

Great analysis, I would suggest using Sz 2 to rebuild rather than Sz 8.  The normal response from AAR was to stack WEu with ftrs, the bmb in Lib for Egy, and depending on whether Ger moves it’s sub in range of Sz 2, 8.  If you consolidate in Sz 8, it’s really tempting for Ger to attack and have the possibility of eliminating the UK/US fleet.  It’s a chance I would take as Germany.

In this game the fleet needs to be used to protect trns but having all your eggs in one basket (trns) and leaving it to chance is very risky for Allies.

    • RE: Pacific 1940 - Limited Edition or not?

It’s Adlertag’s response to Andy Dandy.  I think it’s something about combined shipping?  To save money by combining pre-orders?

      @Andy_Dandy:

Guess i have to pre-order now at once from the USA. I don’t trust AH to send enough copies of it to Norway. ;) I have to be 100% certain to have both the Pacific and Europe version by the next summer.

No norwegian game sites have the Pacific game listed yet either, so I don’t take any chances. These games are worth extra custom fees and shipping costs indeed.

      @Brain:

      Thanks Zhukov44,

Sorry, I had assumed that the Russian sub goes to Sz 2.

      @gnasape:

      If G1 is taking out your Sz 2, 1 sub, 1 ftr, 1 bmb vs. 1 trn, 1 sub, 1 bb (10 vs. 7).

    • RE: Having problems playing Allies

With this on G2, the German airforce would be depleted due to G1 battles and it’s going to be hard taking out:

4 trn (2 UK, 2 US), 1 dd (US), 1 AC (UK), 2 ftr (UK/US) vs. whatever is left

      18 hit dice vs. ??

      Or

      3 trn (1 UK, 2 US), 2 dd (1 US, 1 UK), 1 AC (UK), 2 ftr (UK/US)

      20 hit dice vs. ??

If Germany attacks this on G2, it won’t have much air support left.

As for Japan, question, do you stack Bury?  Don’t expose valuable Russian troops to senseless slaughter unless you are doing KJF.

    • RE: Having problems playing Allies

What are your typical buys for R1, UK1, US1?

A tank rush by Germany and Japan leaves them open to counter attack and stall the rush.

My typical buy for R1 is:

3 inf, 3 arms with placement of inf in front lines (3 inf, 1 arm to Cau, 2 arms to Russia).  If I need to counter attack, I can immediately use all my units.

My typical buy for UK 1 would be:

1 AC, 1 trn, 2 inf or 1 dd, place in Sz 8

My typical buy for US 1 would be:

      1 AC, 7 inf, 1 arm

If doing KGF, move 1 bb, 1 trn from WUS to EUS (will take 2 turns), the 1 dd, 2 trn (with 2 inf, 1 art, 1 arm to UK via trn) meet up with UK fleet in Sz 8 and add ftrs to AC if there isn’t 2 UK ftrs on it.

Most games it comes down to holding Russia until reinforcements arrive.

There are two generic Allied strategy.

The most common is KGF (Kill Germany First), where Allies ignore Japan and focus on Germany, I think this is easier to do and effective.

The second is KJF (Kill Japan First), where Allies focus on Japan, this is harder to do as from R1 you need to be committed.

If Russia falls before Allies have enough pressure on Germany than Axis usually wins and vice versa.

    • RE: Having problems playing Allies

      Welcome Anonymous_User:

R1 buy needs a little adjustment.  If you are from AA (Classic), the mentality is to buy inf!  Need to break that mentality.

Arm/tanks are 3/3/5.  It’s worth it.  Most people including myself find that 3 inf, 3 arm buy for R1 is a strong buy for a counter attack.  But this buy also depends on what you attack on R1.

      If G1 is taking out your Sz 2, 1 sub, 1 ftr, 1 bmb vs. 1 trn, 1 sub, 1 bb (10 vs. 7).

As Russia it might be advisable to take out Norway, without Norway that attack is not possible.

3 inf, 1 ftr in Norway vs. 3 inf (Kar), 1 arm (Arc), 1 ftr (Kar) might be a tough battle but it’s something Russia might have to do.

And from what you are saying, I am assuming you are not playing with a bid?

Please take a look at the play boardgame section and find a game by DM (Darth Maximus_, JWW, KGB.  You would need to download AA battlemap, all the moves are posted, buys, comtat, non-combat.

You need to see the whole game to see why the purchases, the moves are what it is.  It builds on each other.

      Good gaming!

      Hey KarlParsons,

That’s great.  Russia is supposed to hold the Eastern front while UK/US sends troops to the Western front.

Please readup on deadzones and deadzone management, that will improve your game.

      http://donsessays.freeservers.com/deadzone.htm

The concept is important not the detail as this was written for AA Classic.

Normally any land Territory around W. Russia is a deadzone (Kar, Ukr, Belo).  If Germany rushes in, Russia can counter attack.  If Russia rushes in Germany can crush Russia.

It is great read to improve your game (all inf buy doesn’t hold but the deadzone papers are great read).  Once you understand what deadzones are and how to manage it, you will understand why it’s hard for Russians to break through and why it’s hard for Germany to break through.  It comes down to who has the manpower.

Theoretically Germany can build 16 units vs. 12 for Russia.  If Russia is bleeding units faster than Germany, Russia is in trouble.  Now unless UK/US are dropping units off in Europe to offset these numbers, again Russia is in trouble.  Now add in Japan pushing through and you will understand.

IC’s in Asia works for a few turns but it’s Japanese factory that’s not producing Japanese units yet.  US IC in Asia can produce 2 units, UK IC in India produces 3 units vs. 8 for Japan.  Just looking at the numbers, it’s hard to protect but with sub rule and trn changes it might work .

If you get a chance, if you could write down your purchases and attacks per round that would be very helpful in evaluating strategy.

      @Veqryn:

Can Hawaii be worth 2 ipcs so that we can put a minor factory there pretty pretty please

Sorry, you can’t build IC’s on islands, with the exception of Japan and the UK.

      Meethos,

      +1 karma, great catch!

I guess unless there’s an exception HI ain’t getting an IC.  Which makes sense, the only thing we would have at that time would have been sugarcane and pineapples.  All the raw material would have had to be shipped over anyway.

But we had infantry (so did everyone else!)

      Veqryn,

I agree with you regarding purchases, but it could always be changed to suit different styles but I am comfortable with 3 inf, 3 arm.

As for Norway, you can look at % but the impact of UK losing all it’s Navy in Atlantic except for 1 trn is disastrous!  UK can’t afford to rebuild the bb one UK1, it would need 1 AC, 2 dd just to survive and if Germany is smart it would move it’s subs out of Sz 5 for a G2 attack on the Allied Fleet with it’s 2 subs and any air units that can reach (it’s the threat of it more than the actual attack).

There is no need for the other ftr, it can be used for a combined W Rus attack with everything including Cau units.  Yes you abandon Cau and put 1 inf from your build there and the aa gun from Cau moves to W Rus.  Cau can easily be taken back on R2.

This is a strange move if you consider Russia/UK/USA individually but taken together I think it’s a very strong response to the AA 1942 changes.  Why leave small forces for Germany to attack?  Consolidate.

    • RE: Basic Ally Strategies

      Veqryn,

I would suggest in AA 1942, R1 move to attack Norway instead of Ukraine.

One reason being that with the Med battleship is now a cruiser, so Germany has more incentive to take out the battleship, and transport in Sz 2.

1 sub, 1 ftr (Norway), 1 bmb (Germany) vs. 1 bb, 1 Russian Sub but if the ftr, bmb hit only the bb can be taken as casualty, the German sub is there just to soak up a bb hit.

The cruiser in WMD can be taken out by a bunch of ftrs, and the dd in Med can be taken out when Germany attacks Egypt.

Just a suggestion.  We need to think outside of revised.
