You’re welcome.  Yes please don’t do that.

As for maps, unless you have a friend with a plotter, not sure, I’m still trying to figure out the same thing also.

Will let you know if I find a cheaper alternative.

+1 karma to you xerez99, hope you find this site informative.

    • RE: Beginner - Questions

      Welcome to the forum xerez99!

      Regarding your infantry question:

Infantry hit on a roll of 1 (or 2 if supported by artillery) out of 6, but defend at 2 (defends at 1,2 out of 6)

ftrs attack at 3 (hits on 1,2, or 3 out of 6) but defend at 4 (defends at 1,2,3, or 4 out of 6)

bmbs attack at 4 but defend at 1.

Any unit can be hit during a battle except cruisers and battleships that are bombarding during a amphibious assault and also subs (but that’s a little complicated and depends on the situation).

So infantry can attack and take out ftrs and bmbs but it depends on the battle and the odds.

I would suggest if you are using ftrs and bmbs for attack and defense, use or leave enough infantry to absorb hits as you mentioned in your post.

      Example:

Ukr has 2 Russian inf, you as Germany want to take it back lightly as W Rus and Cau is heavily defended, if you hit it heavy, all your German units will die when Russia counterattacks so you would send at least 3 inf, ftrs and bmbs to take it back.

Worst case scenario is that Russia will get two hits and you lose 2 inf but still have a chance to take back Ukr (assuming you had two hits for Germany on round 1, if not Germany should withdraw as there is a chance that Germany might lose ftrs or bmbs).

AA is a war game but also a game of economics, you can’t be losing ftrs and bmbs while the enemy loses inf…

The AA42 map is too small but it’s still playable but you need to be careful where the units are especially Europe and Atlantic.

      Blitz2,

What is your normal buy for G1 and your normal attacks?

Also do you play with a bid?

Also what do you face from Russia?  The buy and attack.

+1 to Dan and Spaceman (I had to give +1 to Dan first, wait around for 8 hours and saw Spaceman’s post).

I agree with both of you 100%.  Germany doesn’t have 15 extra IPC to waste, if it did, the game is probably over for Allies.

    • RE: Operation Overload

      Sorry Battlingmaxo,

All air units must have a place to land.  You don’t have to move the AC if none of the ftrs survive but assuming all ftrs survive, each ftr must have a place to land.

Per page 26 of AA50 rulebook under Air units:

You cannot send air units on “suicide runs,” deliberately moving them into combat with no place to land afterward. If there is any question about whether an attack is a “suicide run,” then in the Combat Move phase, you must declare, prior to rolling any battles, some possible way (however remote the possibility is) for all your attacking air units to land safely that turn.

This could include a combination of combat moves. It could also include noncombat moves by a carrier. If it does include
noncombat moves by a carrier, then the carrier cannot move in the Combat Move phase.

In order to demonstrate that an air unit MAY have a safe landing zone, you may assume that all of your attacking rolls will
be hits, and all defending rolls will be misses. You cannot, however, use a planned retreat of any carrier to demonstrate a
possible safe landing zone for any fi ghter.

If you declared that a carrier will move during the Noncombat Move phase to provide a safe landing zone for a fighter moved in the Combat Move phase, you must follow through and move the carrier to its planned location in the Noncombat Move phase unless the fighter has landed safely elsewhere or has been destroyed before then.

    • RE: Is the promised Reprint of AA50 actually AAP40 and AAE40???

      @Brain:

Misrepresentation opens them up for a lawsuit.

Please don’t bring up talks of lawsuits so lightly…

People want a reprint of AA50, WotC/AH might have said that a reprint is in order but didn’t say when, it could be years from now, or heck, it could be AA100 for all I know.

AAP40 and AAE40 has been announced so it’s understandable that AA50 reprint is on the back burner, all I want to know is when?

      Brain Damaged,

Yes we know that, Questioneer was vital in starting the AA50 reprint drive (if not single handedly kept the drive alive at the various AA forums).

      We want to know when?

Also it can be possible that the chimps at WotC/AH might have asked the boss:

WotC/AH Chimp: Screech, screech (translated “Hey boss, there’s a drive at the various forum asking WotC/AH to reprint AA50?  How do you want us to respond?”)

Boss Chimp: Scratch, screech (translated "Tell them it will be reprinted if it gets them off our backs, I can deal with fleas but not people.  Hey can you get the flea on my back?)

WotC/AH Chimp: Scratch, scratch (translated “Good idea boss. With the new AAP40 and AAE40 coming out soon, they might forget about it.  After all AAP40+AAE40 = AA50 Deluxe.  Can I eat the flea off your back?”)

      +1 karma to Spartan!

Until I played by forum, I didn’t know how bad I was.  It’s really satisfying to get your butt handed to you by expert players.  Oh, I learned and learned.  I’m glad you are playing with a bid because without a bid…  It’s not funny.

Allies have a big advantage in AAR and that advantage is huge against Axis but it needs coordination by all three allies, Russia, UK, US so when people talk about country specific strategy, they are missing out on the big picture.

For a great Ally strategy, take a look at games by DM (Darth Maximus), I don’t think it get’s any better than that.  There’s an epic game going on between DM and JWW.

Download the program AA Battlemap and download the maps for each turn and take a look at the buys, combat, and NCM and you will see what I mean.

The strategies that might have worked in AA Classic doesn’t really work in AAR (other than the shuck shuck).

A factory in India is what I call a Japanese IC not producing Japanese units yet, it will fall in 3 or 4 rounds unless Allies do a great coordinated KJF, which is really hard to do while keeping Germany busy.

I still suck but suck less!

      Questioneer,

Seriously, I would follow up with the forum guy, also not sure how many people know game distributors or game shop owners but I would think they would know if something new is coming out.  I had one hobby shop owner trying to sell AA50 (used) and was telling me that it’s OOP.

      Questioneer,

Thank you again for the hard work you did to get AA50 reprint this far.

I would follow up with the “senior Volunteer Forum Leader” and the “direct contact” to see if there is a timeline for AA50.  I would like to see AA50 reprinted with the AA 1942 sculpts (of course with Italy added) and the FAQ/Errata added as part of the official rulebook.

      Keep up the good work.

      +1 karma.

If that doesn’t work, prod the chimp!  POKE, POKE.  Sorry couldn’t resist the temptation.

IL’s got me doing the chimp thing too.

Wow, I do not belong here

I only have 1 copy of AAR, 1 copy of AA42 and one copy of AA50, but damnit if I don’t think about playing Axis and Allies a couple dozen times a day, hell I keep AA42 in my car just in case someone wants to play me while I’m on the road! I may not be hardcore, but I get withdrawls just the same.

      Welcome, thetoof.

The first step in recovery is to admit you have a problem.

Page 20 of the rulebook under

      Capturing and Liberating Capitals:

If a capital is liberated, the industrial complex and any antiaircraft guns in that capital territory revert ownership to the
original owner of the capital. Territories and industrial complexes that are controlled by the newly liberated capital’s owner
but are in the hands of friendly powers also revert ownership. Antiaircraft guns outside the newly liberated capital territory
      remain under their pre-liberation ownership.

Hope that answers your question EM!

Hello my name is Gnasape, I own 14 copies of A&A.

      I need help:

      I own the following:

A&A title - Number of Copies:
Axis & Allies: Nova - 0 (I would also love a copy too; to complete my set)
      Axis & Allies: Classic - 3
      Axis & Allies: Europe - 3
      Axis & Allies: Pacific - 3
Axis & Allies: Revised -1 (never got around to getting more)
Axis & Allies: D-Day - 0 (but willing to get it to complete my set)
Axis & Allies: Battle of the Bulge - 0 (also willing to get it to complete my set)
Axis & Allies: Guadalcanal - 0 (also willing to get it to complete my set; in my defense D-Day, BoB and Guad, were released when I quit AA cold turkey…)
Axis & Allies: Anniversary Edition -2 (same here, had 3 but now will be down to one, other two found good homes… sniff, I do miss the little guys…)
Axis & Allies: 1942 - 2 (might be getting more but 2 for now)
Axis & Allies: Pacific 1940 - 0 (no pre-orders for me, the shipping costs to HI make it easier for me to pick it up when it’s released or on ebay)
Axis & Allies: Europe 1940 - 0 (no pre-orders for me, the shipping costs to HI make it easier for me to pick it up when it’s released or on ebay)

      +1 karma to you Bob.

      @gnasape:

      @gamerman01:

      @gamerman01:

OK, that’s big.  Hasn’t come up in one of my games yet.  Can you tell me where to look in my rulebook in case an opponent questions my clever moves?

OK, I’m home with my rulebook and I find nothing about “embattled” zones and nothing to prohibit movement through an area that was just cleared in the Combat phase.  My arsenal of strategies just increased, I suppose.

      gamerman01: for AA50, page 21, Phase 5 Noncombat move:

The key phrase is friendly territories, once combat is over, if you won, the territory is now friendly and you can move your units (if they didn’t move during combat).

And regarding your other question about dd stopping movements of all ships (only during combat but once it’s cleared yes, naval units may pass through it).

      "Phase 5: Noncombat Move
In this phase, you can move any of your units that did not move in the Combat Move phase or participate in combat during your turn. This is a good time to gather your units, either to strengthen vulnerable territories or to reinforce units at the front. You will also land all your aircraft that participated in and survived the Conduct Combat phase.
Only aircraft and submarines may move through hostile spaces during this phase.

      Where Units Can Move

Land Units: Land units can move into any friendly territories. They cannot move into hostile territories (not even those that contain no combat units but are enemy-controlled). Note, this is the only phase in which antiaircraft guns can move. Air Units: An air unit must end its move in an eligible landing space. Bombers and fi ghters may land in any territory that
was friendly at the start of your turn."

souL: the answer would be yes as both trj and eqy are friendly territory during NCM phase.
