      @Variable:

      Just picked up my copy within 30 miles of home for $100! I’m stoked! Gnasape is right, check around the neighborhood first.

      Thanks, no sense in overpaying when AA50 is still available.  You just need to work for it!

      Great job Variable!!!

    • Battleship bombard question

      Does the battleship have to be in the same seazone?

      Australia has multiple seazones around it, can you amphib assault in a different seazone and have the battleship come from a different seazone and still get the bombard shot?

      Ask and you shall receive:  these can be found in the House Rule Forum, it takes a while to find things but it helps to know where to look.

      General Chang, I hope you know what you re-started!  There’s a big debate on this (very heated & interesting).  You can see the debates in the same forum.

      @Battlingmaxo:

      coolstuffinc.com has anniversary for 200 usd.

      Before you spend $200, I would suggest you call or visit your local hobby/gaming stores first.  The small local stores sometimes still have this on stock.  Only after that would I spend more than 100+shipping & tax.

      FYI: AA50 is to be reprinted, not sure when, but there was a petition and people at Wizards heard and are listening!

      Welcome!

      Check out the Other Axis & Allies Variants forum, that’s where they discuss new units & new ideas.

      I think there is a discussion about trucks, mech inf, etc already in the forum and new FMG sculpts and dice!!!

      You should check it out.

      @Adlertag:

      10 + 3 = 13

      a bad number to some

      6 players, 6 technologies on each chart, 6 starting VCs for Axis = 666

      That might also be considered a bad number for some :evil:

      +1 karma!

    • RE: How do you play this game

      Hey Rommel_rommel,

      I would suggest you take a look at the rules available at:

      http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=ah/downloads

      It plays any other game of AA except it’s 3 against 1 (Russia, UK, USA vs. Germany)

      Differences on the top of my head:

      12 bonus IPC in the beginning for both Allies and Axis (can place units (only on territories with at lease one unit) or cash to any allies (Usually Russia or UK).

      Has destroyers (bombards) and artillery as new units (if you are not familiar with it).

      Includes convoy zones (seazones Germany can take over to take income away from the Allies)

      Russia having lend and lease (convert Allies units to Russian)

      I think that’s about all I remember.

    • RE: Different Unit Bid Ideas

      Ouch, I consider dice luck (good or bad) to be part of the game!

      If it happens it happens, whether it’s a dice program or FTF, my friend is not a big fan of dice rolls that’s why we have two games of LL dice.  My friend feels that he’s getting shorted by the dice.  It evens out over time but dice are very fickle!  To me with LL it’s not the same game, too much number crunching!

      Off topic, is there a players help for rules regarding LL dice in this forum?  I looked but was unable to find an official thread, also how about resolving mistakes, etc.  We usually resolve it friendly but wanted to make sure we are doing it correctly.  Thank you in advance.

    • RE: Any Hawaiin Players?

      Crispy,

      SMAWGuy plays AAM (Axis & Allies Minitures).  Don’t want to start that, it’s like Magic all over again!!!  Too costly,  I’m sticking to boardgames (fixed cost).

      But if anyone from HI (Oahu) is interested, we have (AA50 (2 sets), AAR (1 set), AA (2 sets), AAE (2 sets), AAP (2 sets); missing Guad, BoB; never bothered to pick it up).  The only thing we need is a place to play, we can usually provide cold drinks, pupus, and food.

    • RE: Let's talk Convoys

      Or what about instead of a certain country receving the money, it goes into the Allies or Axis pot to be used by any Allies or Axis country?

      On the same thought, what about air drops of IPC by bmb’s instead of SBR, the opposite.  Your allies can send a bmb and it can SIR (strategic income run?) and air drops 1d6 amount of IPC (it would be subtracted from the owner of  the bmb) also it would be limited to the IPC value of the territory.

      Limitation being the bmb has to start off in the owner’s territory (original or controlled) that has an IC and the territory being SIRed also needs an IC.

      Sort of like a money train.

      Sorry Bardoly for going off topic but your thread got my brain thinking.

    • RE: Let's talk Convoys

      @Bardoly:

      To keep it simple, why not just give an IPC value to a sea zone?

      The sea zone would have an original controller, and an attacker who moved a warship (subs included) into the sea zone would place a control marker on the sea zone, and would then be in control of the sea zone and would collect the IPC from the sea zone.  (Perhaps if the warship leaves the sea zone or is destroyed, then control of the sea zone reverts back to the original controller.)

      Hmm, interesting idea, and instead of collecting IPC from the bank (can’t think of a better term), you would collect it from the original owner of the territory.  If for example Sz 2 (Revised) is UK (let’s say value of 1), if a German sub controls it, UK’s income would drop by 1 and UK would also need to pay Germany, when Germany collects cash at the end of the round?  Can anyone say piracy?

      Or instead of giving each Sz a value, you would need to control certain Sz’s to get X income (similar to the Italian NO in AA50 but involving certain specific Szs.

    • RE: AA50 will be reprinted!!!!

      @eaglex72:

      This is GREAT news!

      I will definitely be getting one.

      Already pre-ordered AA42, too.

      A lot of AA games! What to do with all the obsolete versions. I’ll just keep them as collectibles.

      No AA game is obsolete!

      AA classic is great if you only have a short amount of time and want to play for fun (with a bid of course).

      AAE/AAP is great for more naval and land battles.

      AAR is still great to play.

      If anything, the extra copies are great for the pieces!!!

      I’m thinking I could use all my pieces and play a real game of AA (no chips!) on a giant map, like you see in the war movies with a giant table with the map and units moved around on those stick things (any idea what the proper term is for those sticks; or where I could buy some)?

    • RE: USSR First Move

      The odds don’t favor Russia:

      1. 6 hit die vs. 6 hit die (4 units vs. 3) in Belo

      2. 18 hit die vs. 15 hit die (8 units vs. 6 units: but it should be 6 units for Russia as if you lose the ftrs it’s game over) in Ukr

      3. 13 hit die vs. 11 hit die (8 unit vs. 5 units) in W Rus

      Instead of doing too much, it might be advisable to hit W Rus hard with 10 inf, 2 art, 3 arm, 2 ftr, and create deadzones all around and trade territories with Germany until the reinforcements arrive.

      It’s a game 1 concession for Allies if 2 out 3 turn out bad.  For allies, time favors them so draw out the game and let Germany rush you.

      Check out IL’s strategy maps for AA50, and the regular map, the works done for you.

      You just need to get it printed and laminated.

    • RE: How many men in your deadzone ?

      +1 karma from me too, never thought of that.  I normally don’t buy aa guns but it’s true about psychological threat.

      In one of my games, there were two deadzones W Rus and Ukr.  W Rus had a aa gun and my friend as Russia sent overwhelming ground forces (6 inf, 3 arms vs. 1 arm) and no air due to the aa gun and sent to little forces with air support to (4 inf, 2 ftr vs. 4 arm) Ukr and suffered heavy casualties because of it.

      I think I would have done the same.  The odds are low of getting a hit but you remember the hits and not the misses.

      Great point.

    • RE: Re: Field Marshal Games Pieces Project Discussion thread

      @Imperious:

      we cant do that. Anything relating to new concepts and games must be regulated to only house and variant sections.

      The only thing we can do is have the administrator post a new article on the new FMG pieces ONCE they have some pictures and also add the bit about “hey come and visit this section and help us get the rules on these new pieces”

      We will support this product because it deserves it.

      IL,

      Understandable.  Would you know if this is posted on other forums?  I know Questioneer has the AA50 reprint petition at Larry Harris’ forum and AH forum.  Maybe this is the way to go for FMG?  Just a thought.

    • RE: Re: Field Marshal Games Pieces Project Discussion thread

      IL,

      What I think Wild Bill is saying is, is it possible to have this thread (sticky) in all the different AA forum (Revised, Europe, Pacifc, AA50, etc, etc, etc, just in case people don’t visit variant page, I happen to see it when FMG first posted it a while ago so I was lucky to find it as I normally stick to the regular AA forum pages.

      I know this topic does not belong in those pages but it could since it’s supposed to replace or add new pieces and would be applicable to all AA games?

      I would expect the variant pages to be more for hardcore players but I would think that even the casual AA player would like new pieces.

      Just my two cents.
