Just changing the subject a bit: i know the rules are the rules, but IMHO the rule is wrong that planes can not shoot at subs! Historically the biggest treat for subs were planes at that time! Remember that at that time they were submercibles. They would dive when sighting an enemy. It was easy for planes to spot a sub. Plus, they were quicker to attack, then the sub to submerge. A more fitting rule would be that planes would have one shot at a sub. But this would make game rules more complex…

Hi Derwood,
I’m familiar with quite a few versions of axis & allies. Older versions generally are in favor of the Allies. In A&A 42 2nd this changed to favoring the Axis to a degree that Axis almost almost win if the experience level is equal. My personal opinion is that the game is actually broken and you need actually quite a high bid for the Allies to even the odds. But perhaps other people have an other opinion.
Also 1940 global is in favor of the Axis with the current insight in the strategy of the game. A popular strategy for the axis is the attack the US on Japans first turn. Before the comunity discovered its value, the game was in favor of the Allies.
So, short answer, both 42 2nd and global are in favor of the Axis! And it is actually the Allies that need bids or editing in my opinion ;) -

I selected the colors especially to make the board light an fresh looking. I noticed that a lot of the A&A boards are dark, which make some units hard to see.
I’m very happy with the result! I hope to make some strategy videos using this map. -

My new hand painted A&A revised map
Hi,
I want to share my self painted map for A&A revised. It is painted on a wooden board of 122cm by 70cm. I hand painted the map using an airbrush. The roundels are made of stickers that I found on the internet. Also the letters are stickers and stamps.

It is a fun alternative to buy planes only as US, but I don’t think it is a sustainable strategy.
I think the argumentation is not correct. If you buy ships and inf for 234IPC, or planes for the same amount, then you might have less offensive power initially with the inf purchase, but the difference is this:
1. ships are not lost in the battle and can serve in the next battle. Thus they are a sustainable purchase if you need to fight across an ocean.
2. Planes are lost in the battle if not supported by ground troops. Thus you are trading 10 IPC units against 3 IPC units. This might give you a nice initial blow, but you cannot maintain this for several rounds. Germany can buy around 10 inf at least to replace their losses, while the us can buy 3 to 4 fig’s.My conclusion is that this kind of attack is only feasible if it is the final blow to the enemy, but should not be the first blow.

RE: Strafing Sea Zone 37 (Indian Ocean) on Turn 1?
I checked the gameboard on this issue. I do like the idea. You need a little lucky dice, but then you screw the Japanese. If your attack is too weak you could also choose to not build new fighters on the carrier, but just build units on land. But if your straffe goes well, your fleet end up in a very good position to be annoying to the Japs. I might just do it in my next game 8-)

It is not a bad idea, though i don’t like the idea to exchange two fighters for one. In the counter strike i might loose the rest of my fleet. I rather trade my complete for the japanese fleet, and buy three inf in india in stead of fighters. You might be able to position your transport so that it can offload the Aussie inf in E2.

What if the Americans go full ou on buying navy in the Atlantic. Would you have enough time to take london before the US is strong enough to take out your navy or at least is in a position to chuck infantry into london?

In my group we generally skip the tech development. To my opinion too it is unbalancing the game for one player. It feels more like a fair fight to play without the tech development.
