    • RE: Building Italian fleet - is there a point?

If you build an arty and infantry round one and counting on Germany taking Egypt and Italy taking Trans-Jordan, you could end the round with 24 bucks which means on turn 2 you buy the carrier and figther to have a powerful little fleet.  Also building transports is a must to help pound on Russia and to Brazil and reinvade Africa if needed.  This of course totally depends on what the 4 players before you have done in their turn.

    • RE: Germany should build 10 units a turn

I agree with putting down as many units as possible as Germany and even Italy because the UK and USA can easily muster a massive bomber force for cutting down your production in just a few rounds.  I personally hate to lose the Baltic fleet because you just opened the path for naval invasions with minimal counterattacks.  I know the airforce could strike those fleets but that means they are not attacking Russians.  I strongly favor a ship/land unit build first turn to protect your fleet from a turn 1 UK slaughter fest.  Heck if Italy saves 3 IPCs and meets their NOs while also taking Trans-Jordan, they could build a carrier and have one powerful fleet to contend with.

    • RE: I need some First Turn USA Strategies… I have one I think

Transport for East Coast to transport non-combat moved Central US units.  Counter attack Japan fleet around Hawaii, send East coast bomber to England and probably even the West coast bomber as well.  That should be sufficient enough in the Atlantic to support England for a bit.  Build a transport, carrier and 1 more fighter for West coast.  I think that should be a balanced first round setup that allows you to send 3 bombers to Germany next turn and have boots moving that way to put doom on the horizon for Europe while also allowing you to strike multiple islands on turn 2.  The West coast fleet moves to Hawaii with no units on the transports, my idea is to use the 2 infantry on Hawaii for a turn 2 invasion while hitting Wake Island or Iwo Jima from West coast.

    • RE: Unstoppable strategy: 1942 scenario

If the Axis did the strategy posted on the first page I think the Allies would probably win more often than not.  Even if Moscow falls I guarantee that one of the other capitals is near check-mate herself and the loss could be mutual unless Germany and Italy are knocked out almost together.  This game has proven, in my opinion, that neither side can ignore one whole front to the game and expect to succeed cause it didn’t happen that way in the real war.  US needs to push both Pacific and Atlantic while Russia of course handles mostly the west front against Germany and coordinates with UK and China for a stonewall against Japan.  England needs to monitor worldly assests and I think put extreme pressure on Norway, Finland, Baltic, France, and Med. fleet.  If Axis ignore Africa, namely Egypt, its game over for Axis.

The problem my with the group I play AAE with is that the Allies haven’t won in our 3-4 games so far mainly because are doing very little if anything to contain Japan other than the random fleet skirmishes.  If the Allies go for Germany and Italy first you need to give Japan multiple targets to attack to spread herself thin for counterattacks.

I think the Allies have the leg up in this setup and that leg up is bombers.  You strat bomb the Axis nonstop like its going out of style fast!!!  If Russia is starting to go downhill, then put some fighters over there and hopefully you have an invasion fleet ready to rock and roll that can do the 2 to 1 pound on France.(UK, Italy, US)

If Axis go for the gusto on turn 3-4 then make them pay that same round, plain and simple.

    • RE: Soviet 1942 strategy.

Another strategy my roommate and I considered was only attacking Eastern Ukraine to knock out the heavy armor of Germany and having 3 tanks, 8 inf(after deployment) and the fighter in Karelia.  Germany has to gamble the possibility of losing aircraft to take Karelia turn one and can only send minimal forces against Stalingrad or Moscow.  Our purchase was 8 inf and we rolled out the fight a couple of times for Karelia and Germany took it with no plane losses from AA shots but lost 1-2 planes just to put a tank there.

The thing is, Germany will pretty much have 2 of the 3 NO’s no matter what because they start with all 5 of the 3/5 NO.  I think putting a stonewall defense of inf in your factories makes Germany take a beating to assault one.  We also moved 2 inf into China in our gameplan as well.  What do you guys think?
