From my understanding it has always been an originally held Russian territory that couldn’t have allied units in it to get their NO bonus. Which would mean that if Russia takes Finland and the UK lands a fighter it wont negate it.

RE: Bad Axis Luck on Round 1 - What can go Wrongposted in 1941 Scenario
Another thing to consider for Japan is any failure to knock out some Chinese territories early on and leave yourself somewhat crippled on the mainland while you are taking all of the islands. Also if the Russian player walks his infantry down to the border of Manchuria that adds a lot more complexity to what you buy first round and how much of China you can ill afford to take while not letting a horde of Russians march in on you. Kinda the same for Italy but naval oriented, if your fleet dies well you are SOL on Africa and good luck getting any NOs the rest of the game.

RE: How useful are cruisers??posted in Axis & Allies Anniversary Edition
It is situational Gamerman01, just like most of the game. But as to the topic question like I stated before, cruisers are useful. You as a player just have to decide how to diversify your fleet depending on what country you are playing as and what your opponent is doing. I agree with your strat in the above post saying no to a destroyer buy so you can kill more airforce with your retaliation strikes. And I also agree with your statement that Germany should try to build a navy within reason of not letting the eastern front with Russia come to a grinding halt. If you play with NOs then you can certainly build a navy. Cruisers are a wonderful addition to the AAA series of games and make destroyers cheaper and put the emphasis for them back on finding and destroying enemy subs. If you do want a strong navy, anchor it with a battleship and carrier, surrounded by cruisers and destroyers for fodder.

RE: Kamikazes in China's turnposted in Axis & Allies Pacific 1940
From my understanding the Kamikaze takes place on your opponents combat move which means if you want to hit US fleet then it has to be done on the US turn and you can only attack their fleet because it is their combat move and not UK or ANZAC. I understand both of your speculations on this rule but I believe this is the right answer because it frankly makes the most sense without having to remember another little side note.

I agree variety is the way to go, just I feel you should babysit those battleships with a multitude of units and make it the center of your fleet. Just the cruiser destroyer build instead of a battleship also nets the benefit of stopping sub sneak attacks. Of course being that this is a axis and allies game, you can win with just about any combination of ship builds.

RE: AA50 Rules Errata and Q+Aposted in Axis & Allies Anniversary Edition
I think it applies to even normal attacks and I don’t think it nerfs the tech that bad. Sure you still only get 1 hit but you get 2 dice rolls to try to get that hit. It will result in less casualties from heavy bombers which I think is an attempt to make it more balanced cause when a country got the tech in the past that was all they ever built and they usually won the game by flooding boxes with dice hits.

Yeah that would be hilarious to screw your teammates cause one forgot to bring beer over, which means as playing as the US I would buy infantry and anti aircraft guns to protect Alaska and my crab fishing grounds.

Makes sense that Japan’s planes can because they are protecting the sea zone rather than Korea herself.

Gotta love the great lengths to which people will go for a game. Its amazing how big the fan base and how much fervor people have for a board game, cause I see it all the time with video games but rarely a board game. THIS is why I love reading articles on AAA and enjoy having conversations about it.

RE: How useful are cruisers??posted in Axis & Allies Anniversary Edition
My friends and I sometimes adopt the strategy of neglect battleships and buying a destroyer and cruiser for the same amount of money. Dice point total goes up 1, rolling 2 dice instead of 1, and 2 hits total to eliminate the pair just as it were for a battleship. Cruiser does bombard which is nice and I personally think they are worth buying. Great supplement to a fleet with the 3 attack and 3 defend. You also gotta look at it from a country standpoint; Japan, America, Germany, and UK are the predominant fleet buying factions and sometimes you don’t have the IPCs to buy a battleship so buying a cruiser works great instead.

RE: Japan declaring war questionposted in Axis & Allies Pacific 1940
Yes that is in the rulebook, they are essentially one gigantic power split into 2 smaller ones. Attack one, you go to war with the other. Same with Japan attacking the DEI islands not held by UK at the start, it automatically declares war on both Anzac and UK by doing so.

RE: Mongolia and Chinaposted in Axis & Allies Pacific 1940
Thanks for the clarification on that, I have only played one game and I was Allies and was wondering about that cause the Japan player could easily plane snipe the Flying Tigers in China if he had the range and effectively kill China’s offensive capabilities.

RE: Japan declaring war questionposted in Axis & Allies Pacific 1940
I personally hope that it is all the units of your enemies become hostile that instant rather than waiting til each subsequent turn for them to be able to become hostile, it would just simplify this issue.

Mongolia and Chinaposted in Axis & Allies Pacific 1940
From my understanding Mongolia is worth nothing IPC wise and the numbers on the territories correspond to the number of infantry to place in them for defence right?
Also can China deploy more than one unit per territory, like put all 3, 4, or 5 units I buy on my turn down in one territory if I so chose?

RE: Japan declaring war questionposted in Axis & Allies Pacific 1940
Here is a link to Larry Harris Game Design website where a person posted asking the exact same questions as the original poster of this forum post and took a shot at answering his own questions. Krieghund replied by saying the poster was correct in assuming that at the moment Japan declares war on any of the Allied players, all units on the board are instantly hostile and don’t wait until each subsequent factions turn to declare war on Japan to attack.
