It is definitely possible. In a game i played, Germany and japan met in Moscow, although by the time that happened, there weren’t many pieces left on the board. yes, i know my supply lines fell apart, but japan was the saving grace.

Well I realize you don’t just use fighters alone, you use them in conjunction with inf as powerful back up.

RE: India Complex: To be or not to be?posted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
I think that having an IIC is possible, to an extent. During some of my playings, my friends have placed an IC there and actually been able to defend the place, even though the Japanese player was/is a superb player who is very aggressive. So i guess it depends on a bit of dice luck and and how well you manage your forces if you have an IC there.

don’t forget, fighters defend on a 4, 5 if a jet, which makes it the most defensibly capable unit on the board. That’s a plus also when defending a territory.

RE: SZ4 border Russia?posted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
Any Russian player who decides to buy naval units should be easily defeated within the first couple rounds. Russia wasn’t meant for the sea, she was meant to say on land, land i tells ya! :-o

RE: Clarification on AA gunposted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
Well, what I meant was that my friend sent his bombers and fighters against France and the AA gun blew away one of the planes. But I had figured that the AA gun owner had to fire first at the fighters then the bombers. And that’s what I did, but somehow my friend just took out a fighter instead of a bomber, which I had rolled for. And then we got to arguing and I went for the rules, even the Larry Harris Tournament Rule book, but somehow they were also unclear, and I “KNEW” that you rolled for fighters then bombers. but i was overruled.

RE: Clarification on AA gunposted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
I did use the LHTR though, and it was still causing problems for my friends and I. I tried to argue that you roll for the fighters then the bombers, but after reading the rules, it came across to them that you can choose to pick what plane gets hit. The LHTR, IMHO, still is somewhat unclear. Why the heck didn’t they just outright say, you HAVE to roll first for bombers then fighters? WHYYYYY?@!?!

Clarification on AA gunposted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
Ok, so my friend and I are having trouble with the AA rules when shooting down planes. Let’s say I have 2 bombers and 4 fighters going on an SBR run over Germany. When Germany roles the dice, does she role ALL the dice for all the planes, or role separately for the fighters and then the bombers? B/c I thought I read somewhere (in the rules maybe? those were unclear) that you role for the fighters then the bombers. Whats the deal?

RE: Stopping japanposted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
It’s all about forcing the other player to respond to you. Whoever dictates the pace usually wins.
I would have to agree with that. If you can make a bold-enough move that gets the other person’s attention, that could/might throw them off their game, and in the process, force them to play into your hands/along with your strategy.

RE: What are some good Russian strategies?posted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
Well, after playing a lenthy game, my friends and I came to the conclusion that, as Russia, you have to play an aggressive first turn. For me, I went full throttle into the Ukraine and wiped it out, then took West Russia as well. From there on out, I usually would either create two stacks in two adjacent areas, or just leave one or two cannon fodder pieces behind, while I regrouped in the areas behind. By doing this, I could hit with a bigger stack the next time around and then keep that area with assurance. So a word of advice to all, even though everyone knows this: take the Ukraine with all major hardware. It takes out the fighter, and, in a way, shakes the German player’s resolve, forcing them to make decisions.

RE: What are some good Russian strategies?posted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
How good (for lack of a better word) of a move is it to, let’s say, take the territory, but leave one guy behind and retreat the rest of your forces, so that you can rebuilt your stack and on the enxt move, attack with an even bigger stack? Is that an acceptable move?
-
RE: What are some good Russian strategies?posted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
So would it also be a good idea to create at least 2 hard “stacks” so that if Germany does come attackin’, it’ll be a pyrrhic victory? How easy is it to keep grinding away at the Germans using hard stacks?

What are some good Russian strategies?posted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
Does anyone have any Russian strats that they’ve used, successfully or not? It seems that everyone around here is either focused on German or Japanese strats, which, is fine with me since I love to play as Germany, but I just want to try a diff country for a change. Got a game with friends this weekend, so I just want to try a different country, see if anything works. So, anyone got any idears?

RE: Axis Powers out of Controlposted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
So generally it’s the Axis who ask for the bid then? Would it be in my best interest to try for a bid when/if i’m playing as Germany? Sorry to be so off topic here.
-
RE: Axis Powers out of Controlposted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
I’m just a bit curious, since it seems to be brought up often. What is this “bid” that is given to a country? Is it part of the actual rules/part of the game that I seem to have not come across or am not reading right in the manual? B/c my friends and I haven’t used it at all when we’ve played. When was this “bid” implimented anyway?

RE: D-DAY Questionposted in General Discussion
The Germans were somewhat close in getting nuclear tech, but they were using heavy water and didn’t have enough of it at the time in to actually create one. At the same time, there was lots of sabatoge going on and once the Allies found out about the possibliity of a German Nuke, they realized the Nazis were years away from actually developing one. For more info, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_with_nuclear_weapons, then scroll down to Nazi Germany.

RE: How can I strafe?posted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
So, would it be a good tactic to do strafing runs on a certain territory, so that you keep pounding down on the other guy’s army? Because if you did that, then that would mean he would have to keep reinforcing that area or have to build more of one thing than another and affect his strategy.

RE: Harris Tournament Rulesposted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
Can someone just tell me if these are THE official rules to playing the game, overuling the ones in the box? B/c I keep reading about “refer to the LHTR” this, that and the other thing being the ones to reference.

RE: Canadian conservatives(moderate liberals) win minority control…posted in General Discussion
People were probably just sick of the Liberals and their attacks on Harper and wanted a change. But if you look at the pre-election poll surveys versus the final results of the election itself, people apparently thought twice about the Tories and still went back to voting for the Liberals. For example, in a poll taken two weeks before you could vote, the Conservatives had a 40% overall lead over the LIberals in terms of who people were going to vote for. But after all the voting was done, the Tories only came out with 124 seats, the Liberals 103, the New Democratic Pary 29, Bloc Quebecois 51, Independent 1. The Conservatives needed 155 seats in total to have a majority. So it just goes to show that public polls are never accurate and the Tories aren’t that well liked as everyone thiinks/thought.
