I sent away for an order form to get more red and grey pieces 8 weeks ago. Last week I received this big box from Hasbro with an explanation saying since their supplier couldn’t get them the necessary products I was looking for (read: A&AR order form) Hasbro was sending me a game of equal value. And in the box, they sent me Risk! For free no less. Getting a new game was cool, but not getting what I “really” needed sucked, and I don’t want to have to buy another A&AR box just to get the chips.

RE: Mobiliaztion of Units at ICsposted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
The most units you can place in any territory is whatever the value of that territory is worth. for example, you can only place 10 units in Germany because it is worth ten. You can put six units in SEU, etc etc.; Understand?

RE: US tacticsposted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
Does anyone who plays as the US advocate the buying of bombers? I would think that it would be a good idea to maybe have 3 or 4 bombers with 4 or 5 fighters to back up your troops D-Day’ing France or Germany. I realize that the bombers could get shot down, but with a 1 in 6 chance, that’s 4 out of 24 chances, pretty low deal.

:-D We, in exchange, burned down your White House. 8-) But all is good and well now (somewhat, of course.)

I think with Octo and his “space for rent,” he likes to leave open a territory for you to take. Next round, he comes down on you with a massive/large force and crushes that spot. I think that’s how his “SFR” goes. :|

:-P :-D hehehe, I’m actually from Canada, but I’m a history buff, especially about the two world wars, so I kinda remember that stuff.

Yeah, I’ve been noticing the same thing. Maybe since it’s summer, people are getting outside to enjoy the weather.

RE: KJF - Now what do I do???posted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
ok, don’t get me wrong, I see your (excellent) point, but what happens if he starts island hopping? Am I supposed to let him do that or do I try and stop him? I see where you are coming from, and I’m gonna have to re-think my Japan strats more, but he just seemed to take me out piecemeal. ANd really, I don’t mean to whine if it sounds like I am, but i’m just frustrated by inexperience and (seeming) inablity to counter. I play this game infrequently but monitor these boards frequently, looking for advice and and interesting strats to use or add to my own.

RE: KJF - Now what do I do???posted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
Ok, so I just had my fleet wiped out again by the Americans, who went KJF again!!! :|(Yes, I know what you are all thinking: boy, does this guy ever suck at playing Japan). But the thing is, I was trying to play a bit “smarter” compared to the last time i played, which was when I kept building up my naval forces and few ground forces. THis time, it was pretty much all ground forces and little naval forces, and I paid for it dearly. In the end, in the Pacific, there were 2 American BBs, 3 ACs, 6 ftrs, 4 destroyers, and a couple trannies. I was only able to put down maybe a sub and a trannie before being wiped off the ocean.
Is there a happy medium when it comes to knowing how much to build in terms of ground and sea forces? If so, where, or what, is it? Because I’d really like to keep my Jap fleet alive and be able to protect my precious precious islands that got taken away. I realize I sound like a bad player, but I’m more a Germany kind of guy who knows what should be done using Japan. Unfortunately, I can’t seem to balance the naval and ground forces part of it. Please be kind. thanks again.

@Nix:
The best KJF that can be mustered from my mind is as follows (in short, the perfect details depends on opposition).
Russia, stacks 6 inf in Buryatia on R1, allso moves 2 Arm to Yakut. this is done to attack machuria R2.
2 Inf from Novo to Sinkiang, to defend it.UK build factory in India R1, attacks french indo china with 3 inf(india) and 1 fig sz35 (65% succes in wiping it and having atleast the fig remaining)
DD SZ35 kills Japan Trn, UK trn sail to SZ49 to prevent Japan reinforments to reach french indo china J1.USA builds factory in Sinkiang, and build fleet in pacific. (should still put a little cash on a trn or two to send to reinforce UK and make raids on germany.
Russia will in the begining have to face Germany quite alone, but when japan is pushed back of Asia continent and US navy appears they will be able to get reinforcements from india and Sinkiang (figs, arms, etc).
this is my thoughts on a usable KJF strat. (Russia will get more income then if you do KGF, and that will help holding germany at bay)
Some of what was suggested here is pretty much what my US friend did. An IIC, plus a huge build up in the pacific, plus russia stacking in bury, then ATTACKINg into MAnchuria afterward, taking it. then a push from the middle, and north and south prongs, pretty much wiping out any and all ground troops. Nasty i tells ya, nasty.

RE: KJF - Now what do I do???posted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
@ncscswitch:
There IS a “viable” KJF…
The only problem is that, in a KJF, the OTHER Axis nation gets to run free for a while, just like Japan gets to “run free” in a KGF.
The difference is that Germany unfettered is a HECK of a lot more serious threat than a Japan unfettered…
Disallowing for that, you can go after Japan actually MORE effectiely that you can Germany… it just requires at least 1 new IC.
Does that extra IC go into Alaska or China/Singkiang? Cuz I’ve done Singkiang a couple times before.

RE: KJF - Now what do I do???posted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
Well, I captured Moscow but only had 3 tanks to hold it with. Next round, Russia just collapsed it’s remaining EAstern Front forces back into Moscow and took it back and still had enough defensive men left to make sure i couldn’t just walk right back in.
But how can my friend have over-reacted if in the end USA attacked with 2 BBs, 3 destroyers, 5 subs, 2 ACs and 4 planes?

KJF - Now what do I do???posted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
THe other day my friends and I were playing, and the friend who was playing as the US went 99% against Japan. He built a BB and two subs on the first round and kept building from there with destroyers and carriers and a few subs. Since this was happening, the friend playing Japan had to start putting down sea units of his own. Because he had to start defending the sea lanes near Japan, his production of ground units suffered immensely to the point where he couldn’t even build up a decent size stack on any prong. Furthermore, both Russia and the UK kept decent forces down there, and just kept battering from the north and south, to the point where most of Japan’s ground units were destroyed.
My question is, as Germany, what do I do now? I mean, my other ally is not getting enough ground units to pressure anyone, and I’m having to slowly build up forces while trading spaces with both the UK and Russia. I managed (somehow) in the fifth or six round to take Moscow because the guy left 3 tanks there and an opening straight down the pipe, but the Russian was doing pretty good in terms of keeping me from doing much damage. TO really show either how bad I play or the Allies’ ability to keep my hemmed in, Russia sent almost 8 tanks to drive Japan off the damn ASian continent, while managing to wipe out my 8 tanks-9 inf-4 art stack, leaving me with four tanks. So, anybody got any suggestions if this ever happens, esp. with JApan getting kicked off the continent.

RE: Opening w/japan…posted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
@ncscswitch:
There is a previous thread on this where a “timed” Japan landing in North America is discussed as a means to interupt the American shuck into Europe as Germany prepares to make their major push.
I THINK it was under the Classic threads, but the concept would be as valid with Revised, just need to tweek the timing…
Wasn’t that strat proposed in the Caspian Sub rules papers? I remember seeing it there. I think…

RE: German Turtleposted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
Octo, don’t suppose you could give the abridged Coles Notes version of your explanation? I don’t play much, but I’m always interested in what others have to say so that next time, i can possibly employ a strat or two that has worked for someone else.

RE: Germany Strategy concept…posted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
@ncscswitch:
If you want to play conservative as Germany… just turtle up from the get-go and wait for Japan… IF they can get to Moscow in time with Russia having lots of money and German offesnive against them…
You have to take risks.
The object is to make your moves smartly… and when in doubt, go HEAVY, so that you win easilly with few troops lost and your opponent takes maximum losses on the counter.
Well, I’d actually like to play somewhat aggressively as Germany, so doing the slow withdrawl doesn’t really make me happy. AT the same time, though, I also don’t want my one and only huge stack completely wiped out and be forced to retreat to regroup. Unless of course I go the northern route and attempt to get to Moscow that way instead of going south, which would probably be a really slow grind.
