Yeah, but, how often does the AA gun get super accurate when it comes to F2F play?  It’s never that accurate when playing with people as opposed to on the computer, which seems to have delayed fuses and the like, and maybe magnetic flak.

I hail thee DM and thoust homework you have done.  Wow, those numbers sure tell a tale.  Thanks for that.  I think actually seeing some numbers and examples helped put things into perspective.

I kinda have to agree with Jen that the DAAK AA gun must have heat seeking missiles some of the time, because when I was playing steady online against others, the majority of the times I tried SBR’ing, I’d be roasted duck.  I’d be willing to get back in the saddle again and play online against someone to test out my SBR campaign, just to see how … liberal DAAK is with shooting down me precioussss bomberssss.

      @newpaintbrush:

      @Jennifer:

      Mech,

Switch and I are currently going at it.  I caught him with a blindside in the Pacific and really put the screws to him in North Africa, which is good because my british nitwits are too busy having tea to remember to bring ammo to ANY FRIGGIN ENGAGEMENT ON THE PLANET!  I mean hell, they’d get their fleet sunk to a tugboat if only they wern’t so busy running away!

      Bah!Â

Though, in the last engagemnet they did okay.  Then again, I outnumbered him like 200:1 and expected to win with about 10% of my units left. hehe.

That only shows how civilized and practical the English are.

Let us say you have room in your kit for three things.

A Russian would bring a nice big furry hat, ammo, and food.
A German would bring a spare gun, ammo, and food.
A Japanese would bring a spare gun, ammo, and whatever his CO told him to bring.
A US citizen would bring a deck of cards, ammo, and food.

But a Britisher is going to bring a tea set, tea leaves, and scones for two to four people.

Bah, the Russians wouldn’t bring food, they’d bring along a bottle of vodka.  That’d keep them going on the cold Russian steppes!
And the Japs would probably bring a katana instead of spare ammo.  They know they’re outgunned anyway, so just bring along the blade to kill and kill themselves.

    • RE: Frood AACalc Dicey / Sim / Odds Calculator: Updates and Opinions

Hey, it seems that the boxes for inputting numbers are reeeeally thin, which only allows for a person to see a single digit rather than double digits if attacking with double digits.  Is that intentional?  Or did you jsut run out of room on the page?  :-P  BTW, I think it’s a great calc.  Used it a few times myself.

Ya know Jen, I too agree with you that the AA gun in DAAK is a giant killer.  It seems to be biased towards ALL bombers and seems to have the most accurate flak I’ve ever seen.  I’m pretty sure I’ve been shot down more times than I’ve been able to do SBRs.  Get’s reeeeally annoying after a while.

Hey SS, how successful have you been in your games w/o buying a German AC?  Doesn’t NOT having an AC affect your homeland defence?

All very interesting words of wisdom and suggestions.  Deft.ly will have to re-think my strat.  But 3 US and 1 UK bomber sounds like a good plan. Because what I was thinking of doing was staging 3 or so bombers in England to hit Germany, and stage 3 or so bombers in Egypt to hit SEU.  That was how I was going to go about it.

    • Strategic bombing your way to a win

I’m tempted in my next game I play to play as the Americans and build up a massive bomber group to go and attempt to pound Germany’s economy down to dust.  I’ve read all the threads and papers and et al. regarding how this is unfeasable, but still, I’d like to give it a try.  Obviously the first few rounds would be to get some foot soldiers into either England or Europe somewhere, but at the same time, slowly build up the bomber corp until maybe a bit later on when I go full bore on BBer buys and go nuts into Germany and Italy.  Any thoughts, suggestions, apprehensions, derogatory jokes you’d like to make, either yaying or neying this possible plan o’ mine?

    • RE: Worst luck EVER

It was the first round, I was Germany.  Sent in 1 sub, 3 fighters to deal with that pesky UK BB.  I had to sacrifice at least one or two fighters to kill that damn battleship.

Another time, sent in 2 inf, 2 arm, 1 ftr, 1 bber to kill Egypt.  I had to kill both the bomber and fighter so to at least take the place and seal the Med.  Boy did that suck.

    • RE: Which direction in Japan's multi-pronged approach?

Man, I don’t know what it is but I got burnt AGAIN while playing Japan.  My friend put in a KJF game plan which basically hemmed me in in both the north and south while building up the US sea power.  What really messed me over for the entire game was the VERY FIRST MOVE!!! I got my candy butt handed to me on an orange platter while trying to take China.  I lost 4 inf on the first go and that set the stage for my ability ( or lack thereof) to wage war.  I wasn’t even able to take Sink and only manage to attack it once.  Furthermore, an IIC was set up, and I couldn’t get it because I couldn’t muster enough forces on the ground.

A few other variety of factors messed me up (and over) for the rest of the game, and     my home got taken away from me b/c of my lack of foresight.  But I kinda forgot to collect my income so when the US took Japan he only got 2 IPCs of leftover money.  Not too bad but then again, not really good either.  I think I’ll just stay with Germany or grounded countries in the future…

    • RE: Which direction in Japan's multi-pronged approach?

Good point Jen, good point.  It seems when I play, I get back-handed whenever I go up the middle, usually because Novo is so close to both Russia and the Cauc, so a few armour and some inf along with airpower comes and strafes me or destroys me.  Going north where only units from Russia can come to play ball works for me.

    • RE: Which direction in Japan's multi-pronged approach?

What I think I mght do, if i get Japan, is to plug up the middle and make end runs north and south.  That way, I won’t have to worry (too much) about trading Sink and China, and instead can make Russia come to me through the north, which is a bit harder since tanks have to come farther than just through Novo and into Sink, and mebbe make feints or bigger threats south.  IIIIIttt’s a work in progress. :-D

    • RE: Which direction in Japan's multi-pronged approach?

Hmm, looks like I’ll have to play much more aggresively this time around then.  IT seems even when I play Germany I have a tough time hitting and taking the Caucasus.  Maybe I should just stack in EEU for a couple rounds with tanks and inf and art, then next round stack EVERYTHING in Belo to try and take out Russia’s WR stack.  :?  HAve to try it sometime i would imagine.  But as for Japan,  pressure I suppose will ahve to come from somewhere else.

How, exactly, though, can I threaten/take the Caucasus if I first have to take Persia and then wait another turn with Russia up to bat before me?  They can/could easily crush/strafe my stack and then I’d be really in trouble and not be able to do anything at all.  Is there an easy or simple way to attept to threaten the Cauc without first being annhiliated on the run in?

    • Which direction in Japan's multi-pronged approach?

Ok, so I’ve read almost every strategy on here about which direction Japan should take in her march west.  Switch’s mini-essay on the many directions Japan can take (found here http://www.axisandallies.org/forums/index.php?topic=5849.0) is a good start.  However, my problem is, what direction should Japan actually focus on?  She doesn’t have enough men to go all 3 avenues (Northwest, Straight West, Southwest).  So, w hat do you do?  Do you set up tight ends to block/protect your flanks and drive straight up the gut through China, or do you plug the gap and send either or both tight ends north and south and hope to meet in the middle?  B/c it takes a lot of Japan resources to create 2 or 3 big battle groups that won’t get wiped out by someone strafing you!      So is there any consensus or sound method b/c I might want to play Japan this weekend.

Well, we ahve an upcoming game, so I guess we can put this to rest in the near future :-)

I declare the front row seat for this game! Two big kahunas who can talk the talk AND walk the walk.  And soon, apparently, one’s laurels and convictions will be put to the test! Viva la A&A!!!

I highly highly higly doubt that’s even her.  That pic’s been floating around the internet for some time now, for at least a couple years at any rate.  It’s not that hard to upload a picture such as that.
