Well, for the first couple turns Germany was trading territories while building up a big enough stack to go stick in the Ukraine so as not to get sand blasted back to the Rhineland. And then Germany had to stick in EEU for a while because there was a large UK presence there that was slightly worrisome. I almost had Germany going for a while but had to protect WEU and SEU from US trannies (4 to 5 at one point). So yeah, a slight turtle at times, others, attempting to get as offensive as I could. But TC played extremely well and handled Russia even better. Yes, I probably could have hit him a lot sooner, but I guess it just wasn’t meant to be.

A "Sink"ing feeling with an IC in placeposted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
In my tourney game against the classy TCNance, he put an IC in Sink and used that to hold Japan for pretty much the entire game. He pulled all his Russian forces back from the coast and left Bury and SFE empty. Any nearby forces from Novo and Kazakh he sent into SInk to reinforce the US IC he plopped down. After that he sent in more and more nearby infantry that were being pulled back. For pretty much the entire game he held that damn thing with the majority of his Russian armour and infantry with, of course, some of his American friends. Even with 3 ICs of my own on the mainland, I was unable to counter or get at or get passed that linch pin of his defences. Japan couldn’t do much for Germany, although Germany held her own fairly well right up until the very end, when my 17th Army was annhiliated in the Caucasus Mountains.
So my question is, how would you counter this IC in Sink strat? Apparently TC has never lost using this tactic, which is quite something and believable and remarkable. Do you just put up a screening army in China and go around? Do you attempt to smash it head on with a whole lotta tanks? Do you pray to God that TC will continue drinking and in a fit of lunacy pull out all his Russian men and leave what little US men there are to be vanquished by the fanatical Japanese Army and air force?
Just so you people know, at the end of the game, Japan had 13 inf, 11 art, 5 arm and 4 fighters parked in China, facing off against roughly 7 Russian armour, 17 Russian infantry, 3 ftrs, 6 US Inf, 2 art, and 4 armour. I thought about trying a strafe against his stack, but could never pull the trigger. The only trigger I ended up pulling was on ending the game.

Where can I get me some of those towers? Do I have to get them from the US or are they sold in Canada as well?

Well, my one friend is a smart smart guy. He’s very intelligent and had super high marks in high school and still does in university. I just can’t seem him not, in his head, knowing that he is cheating. He’s a very clever guy who could probably get away with murder if he wanted to. I’m just saying, he’s not that dumb in terms of knowing what he’s doing at most times.

How exactly do those towers work Craig? Do you just put the dice in the top and they come out the bottom?
-
RE: Bad dice throwers, chop their hands off!!!posted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
Jen, that’s usually what I do as well. Either cup the dice with both hands and throw against the game box side(s), or use one hand and throw against the side(s)/end of the game box. Usually works well. Sometimes doesn’t.

Hmm, thanks Frimmel, never thought of that. Dice cups. Cool. But what are dice towers? Never heard of those.

Bad dice throwers, chop their hands off!!!posted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
So I’ve already read the CSub paper on people who throw dice to cheat, but I wanted more of a wider opinion on the matter. What’s the proper or “right” way to throw dice when playing? Do you throw them into the box and have them hit a side of the box so that they actually change sides? And if someone is just pancake-throwing them (aka dropping them into the box with no rolls) do you out right accuse them or is there a more diplomatic approach without blatantly saying, “you damn cheater, i should break your fingers!” I ask because a couple of my friends who do just drop them into the box, or at the least, in a way “push” them into the box by turning his hand straight up and over and dropping the dice into the box. You don’t know how many times “1s” will come up when this is done. Even when playing A&A:D-Day, my planes were gettin blown out of the sky because of these types of rolls.
So, any suggestions on what to say to a person who does this type of thing?

CS, why didn’t you enter the Spring Tourney? Everyone’s thinking Caspian Sub is you and I was playing against you…I mean him and I thought you had been hit in the head by a brick because you were playing so poorly!!! Oh vey, life is odd. Still, where ya been?

RE: Attacking Subs: sneaky or not?posted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
Okay, so subs fire the very first thing and once per round and their kill doesn’t return fire and dies - unless there is a destroyer present and then the hit enemy ship gets to return fire. Am I understanding that and summing it up correctly?

Alrighty, thanks for your help.

Attacking Subs: sneaky or not?posted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
Ok, so I’ve been having trouble answering this question even when I play FTF. Can attacking subs still get to do a sneak shot when attacking and then do another attack as their regular shooting? Or is it, the sub attacks first when attacking, and if it hits anything that ship is DOA and gone before the rest of the attack commences? Because even watching some of these tourney games, I’m slightly unsure.

RE: Questions about rulesposted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
Stupor or no, I doubt he is as distracted as he pretends to be.
I’ve played a few board games in the barracks and behind all the smack talking, the brains are going furiously.
I recall on game where a guy brought his “girl friend” (she was a dancer at a local club) and she made it a point to do everything but actually service the folks playing the game all as part of his master plan to win just once!
No, he did not win and yes his “girl friend” spent the night in the barracks room. Four guys, four beds, one girl, 'nuff said.
So I take it you guys played musical beds all night with the winner getting the bed and a good night’s sleep?

I think all his bad vices + Jen’s scantily clad body is putting NPB into a sly stupor!

Paintbrush, the FDA would have a field day with you. You apparently condone and do everything they hate and fight against.

RE: Best Feeling in Round 1posted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
If you seriously did that and left only the fighter, that’s pretty damn good!
Now where’s that little icon with the guy bowing? Must give props to that happening. -

Just watching the previews for i it over Christmas and I was laughing so hard. It’s pretty much poking fun at itself and all the (mis)conceptions everyone has about Muslims. Hopefully it doesn’t get too carried away.

RE: To defend or not to defend, that is the question?!posted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
But Switch, in that case Germany is dedicated 48 IPCs to take out 9 Russian IPCs with a very good chance of only loosing 0-6 IPCs in units herself. So Russia is down 9 IPCs out of a collection of 24 (I’m going to assume R1 to maximize Russia’s ability to recover here). That means Germany has just destroyed 38% of Russia’s ability to build up units. At what cost?
Germany actually expended 6 IPCs on the attack (worst case, and it’s almost always - it seems - no cost) and forced Russia to attack with 3 infantry, 1 fighter to two territories. So Russia’s down 0-9 IPCs on the retake plus a territory (say 2 IPC) for a total of 11 IPC to kill 12 IPCs of Germans.
Total for a round:
Russia down 20 IPCs
Germany down 16 IPCsOr you could not picket, let the germans roll in and out, and then do the same yourself.
Hehe, yeah, that’d be the way to go. Just come to an agreement with your enemy to not produce bloodshed but instead stomp the country flat! :-P But those are good points both by Switch and Jen.

To defend or not to defend, that is the question?!posted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
It seems sometimes when most people play, they leave one or two men in a territory they know will be taken, just to keep it garrisoned. But an aweful lot, it seems, when the defenders get attacked, they score no hits. Jennifer even gripes about this in her 2 on 2 game with Froodster, CC, and Frimmel. So the question is this, or at least the situation anyway: Do you leave a man or two in a territory and make the enemy put some effort into a battle? Do you leave a place open and just let the enemy blitz in and out? What would you do?
I know one of my slight fears or anxieties about this is, is if I leave it open, and he has a stack of tanks, he can drive right through and hit whatever’s beside that empty territory, and if he does that right before my planned offensive, then my plans and timetable and careful planning are upended. But hey, that’s the way of war, right?
